Hello, I've been reading these forums for a few days, recently registered and thought I would say hi!

About me: I am 22 years old and I live in Traverse City, Michigan, but will be moving to Tucson Arizona to attend the University of Arizona for fall 2011.

I recently sold my car because I didn't see the point in taking a car with significant rust to a place where rust is virtually non-existent! I've been searching for an enduro/dual sport for a few weeks now, since selling my car. I was looking at the Zongshen Sierra 200, but decided a new one was a bit out of my price range. Browsing used dual sports locally, I stumbled across this yesterday:



I picked up the bike for $800, its a Zhejiang Xmoto 250. For the price, I could not walk away! I haven't actually ridden a motorcycle/dirt bike in 10 years, so there was a short acclimation period, but about an hour into riding around town, I again started to feel comfortable riding.

So anyway, hi! If anyone has any new dual sport owner tips or maintenance guides specific to my brand/bike, or general information I might not know that'd be wonderful.

I can post a few better pictures later taken with my dslr if you like, the above image was taken with my phone. I am going to give it a good cleaning tonight.

I went to make the bike legal yesterday and hit a brick wall. I only have the certificate of origin. The DMV said that alone is not enough to make the bike legal. They told me I need a surety bond or court order (I am not sure how either would help...) to get a title and plate.

I had the police run the VIN, and noone has made the bike legal. So what I was thinking is if I have the police do a VIN check sheet, have the bill of sale and certificate of origin, they might let me make it legal. The guy whom I purchased the bike from said he only used it off road.

Thoughts?

Also sorry if there is a place specifically for questions like this, I did not see one though.

This won't help you any, but it's a great relief to me to know that China is not the only place where there are bureaucrats and regulations standing in the way of getting perfectly good bikes legally registered.

Yea, I was pretty mad when the DMV told me that. I hear emissions are nightmare's in China, is that true? That would probably be the worst thing to have to deal with, especially if you aren't mechanically minded. I am useless when it comes to fixing things.

What we are dealing with here is the imposition of strict emissions requirements that essentially mandate the elimination of carburetors. Overnight, this slashed the number of bikes that were eligible for legal registration, and left manufacturers either scrambling to get into compliance, or turning their attention to more emissions-friendly markets (like the US, which has the world's most lax emissions standards). Here's a thread listing the few bikes that can be registered.

A COO (assuming it's a COO for a street legal vehicle) and a bill of sale is enough to register a vehicle in most states. Get an official looking notarized bill of sale and try again. Some states like NJ and PA are real chicken shit about registering Chinese vehicles. Maybe AZ is not so bad?
