Undo your sump plug, put the metal piece in first pointed bit up, flat bit at the bottom,
then the spring, then the sump plug, refill oil job done :)
I have just removed this exact spring and pin (neutral selector) from my sons pulse Adrenaline which i thought was mostly the same engine. so just to be sure, Check out this link guys.

dodgy is right not cam tensioner but I suspect they are bits to stop oil leaking everywhere when you try undo-ing sump nut
Hi, I had the same problem last Saturday...... I dropped the oil and this came out...I refitted it the way you have it in your picture...THIS IS THE WRONG WAY.... you will have problems finding neutral and may not light up neutral light. You need to put pin in first (narrow end) then the spring (on the flat end) then the plug.... seems f###ing silly way but it's wright..... just road-tested it and back to the way it was pre-oil change. hope this helps
