Motorcycle insurance in China
I've been riding in China for less than two years, and had a self-inflicted getoff in 2010 in Yunnan. Slabo had a nasty accident in Kunming in which a girl climbed a barrier and walked into his path, then blamed him for her injuries -- and got away with it. Thus coining the verb "getting slaboed".
I used to feel, great, insurance is so cheap here in China, what a deal. Then I remember reading ChinaV say he found a way to buy extra coverage, and I though, that's pretty smart. I tried to do the same, and paid an extra 112 rmb for the hear to boost my third-party coverage to 100k rmb. Which is NOT a lot of money in a Chinese hospital. But then Motokai tried to get the same deal from the same company, even went to the same office, but was turned away. He persisted, and made them look up my policy, and they ultimately relented, but said the additional coverage was supposed to be only for cars, not motorcycles.
Now bigdamo has said he's found a way to pay 2200 rmb for 500k in coverage, and though he's a bit miffed by the expense, ChinaV has noted that this is a great deal considering what he's getting. After all, why do we have insurance if it's not to stave off catastrophic expense and liability?
So let's use thread to gather information about what's possible.
bigdamo, you mind giving a few more details about the policy you scored in xinjiang, the first by a foreigner?:deal:
Others?
cheers!

I think I just got ripped I payed 2200 rmb a year(the price will go up next year because of my age) for a coverage of 500,000 rmb.
That was for if I get injured ,sick or die and have to go to hospital or the cemetery which ever is the case.Doesn't matter if I get injured riding a motorcycle, driving a car or skiing.

If we're going to go off on an insurance thread, let's be sure to separate it into Automotive, Health, Property, etc.
Cheers!

Apparently i am the first western person who has taken out this type of insurance in Xinjiang.Find that hard to believe.
We approached many insurance companies and they didn't want to know about insuring me.Only one would cover me.
We are quite a few years behind eastern China though.

Many thanks, V!
What insurance did you end up buying?
cheers
Re: Motorcycle insurance in China
So guys, any news regarding insurance for motorbikes in China? it seems this thread is from 2011 and was supposed to become the gathering of all the hints to get a big coverage, or did I miss another thread?

I posted somewhere recently about my insurance renewal, at which time Pacific Insurance Company of China refused to renew a supplemental policy that they'd agreed to sell me a year ago. I've not gone out looking for alternatives, but it's entirely possible there are no alternatives available. Which means we are stuck with the mandatory minimum liability policy -- and ONLY that policy.
That sucks.
If you are shopping for insurance, please do ask at every company if they'll sell supplemental insurance. I know I'm not the only one who would be grateful to know where to buy some.
Cheers
