Valve adjustments on BaoDiao 150cc
Hi,
As I'm uncertain on how long I'll be staying in China (for my work) I decided to buy a cheap chinese bike to play with for as long as I'm here. I got my license and bought a new BaoDiao BD150-8D for 3800RMB. It feels totally different than my 4 cylinder Honda back at home.; when cruising at constant speed (above 55km/h), the engine seems to stutter (hold back). I suspect it's a fuel mixture issue, but I checked the spark plugs and the color seems perfect. And I tightened the chain quite a bit, which was way too loose. Anyways, still happy with this bike, it's still a lot of fun to be able to go places you usually wouldn't go to.

I changed oils at 300km and 600km, and will be doing one again at 1000km. I also plan to check the valve gaps, and adjust if necessary. After that I planning on doing a 1-week trip through Hunan and Hubei (Enshi, Yichang...). Does anyone know what the gap settings should be for this bike? I tried to contact the factory (Jiangsu Baodiao Locomotive, www.bdmotor.com), but they don't reply. Any information is appreciated! Thanks
Regards,
Andre

This Beidao has 162 FMJ engine, which is clone of the Honda CG engine. At several places I saw that recommended clearance is 0.08 mm for both inlet and exhaust. I would expect that the gap to the exhaust is a bit bigger, perhaps 0.1 mm, but everywhere it says that the gap is same for both valves. Either way, you can expect that you will get the correct answer from one of the guys from this forum.

Thanks for the link, great info! However the clearances might be slightly different for a 150cc than for this Honda CG 125cc ?
Re: Valve adjustments on BaoDiao 150cc
0.08 is correct in these pushrod clone.
Kymco don't lies, their over-bored or not (56.5 /58.5 / 62mm) shares the SAME service manual http://picasaweb.google.com/iondogck/12502 whch the limits are 0.06 & 0.10
125 vs 150 (珠江 was powered by Kymco during early days, so ZJ125 is the code in "industry" for the electric start clone )

Re: Valve adjustments on BaoDiao 150cc
From the pictures on motofans I can see that the exhaust valve has a larger diameter than the inlet valve, which explains why the clearance can be the same.
I'll check my bike for 0.08mm for both inlet and exhaust valves. Thanks!

Jiangsu Baodiao is "assembler". Their bike are powered by Zongshen from the official govt database. http://www.motorfans.com.cn/bbs/view...php?tid=696485
DON"T ask ANY tech ? / try to complain ... to factory. The warranty often = local dealer ONLY:icon10:

Somehow I doubt that different diameter is the reason for the same valve clearance - my motor also has a different valves, yet, recommended clearances for inlet and exhaust are different.

Don't ask why. Many Honda bike IN/EX are the same. Stolen from a Japanese Honda dealer http://www.ride-inc.net/file/32/data.pdf

I don't.
Maybe sometimes I can have one of my theory why something as it is, but do not question the recommendations of engineers as long something works as it should. Their is to think, mine - to enjoy the ride. :naughty:
