I want mobile phone with antenna port
Any of you MCM gurus have recommendations for a simple, cheap phone with a good, external antenna (RF) port? It doesn't need to be flash, just quad band (or at least 900mghz and 2100mghz), bluetooth and maybe MP3. No need for camera, android or other apps. as I shall just use it for calls and the odd SMS but the antenna port is essential as I get only a low signal -95dbm via a roof mounted yagi antenna where I live.

Good lawd', a cell phone with external antenna... haven't seen one of those since the late 80s!

No, not a brick on a stick Carl!
Just a phone with a port to connect to! Quite a modern device, useful in country areas, car-kits etc!
Re: I want mobile phone with antenna port
Hmm. I could use one of those when I'm in Mendocino County on California's signal-challenged north coast. I'll have a look through taobao to see if any of the 10,000 mobile phone models here has an antenna jack.
cheers

Re: I want mobile phone with antenna port
There were plenty out there, even fashion phones like the Motorola razr - but it varies from country to country on the same phone model as to which type of port they use and whether it is under the back plate or a simple robust external plug in point. Used to be more common when car kits were more necessary however few of the phone companies these days include that info for some reason, maybe because signals are better. I shall look around the 4wd and marine forums also. For some reason my Google searches don't find this antenna port parameter easily. Maybe terminology, maybe me! I appreciate you having a look Jeff. I do know some of the so-called 'rugged' or 'tough' phones have such ports as they are designed for surveyors 'out in the field' etc. but they tend to be expensive.
I have also been trying to find a way to use an Ipad or similar tablet computer as a voice phone, but for some reason i don't seem to be able to find the info. I had expected that a usb modem would do the job and allow a laptop to be used for voice with a headset (apart from voip) but apparently they are data only and not in any way usable for voice. I thought voice was all digital these days so just don't understand this. I need to look farther and deeper! I suspect it is a case of needing to understand the technology a bit more but at present I am getting into Linux and have enough on my plate just trying to get apps that do what is so easy (but bloated) on Windows.
You got that lump of metal out yet?
Re: I want mobile phone with antenna port
because I want to dissemble it and shove it bit by bit up the arse of spambots, its just a thang I have
this post makes no sense now Carl zapped the spambot that asked me why i wanted such a mobile - bloody sophisticated creatures, half man, half robot that can refer to text of thread and seem almost sensible. More sensible at times, lol
