4 Curve Performance CDI Help
I ordered the 4 curve performance CDI from taobao through taobaofocus. I can't read Chinese so all of the info I have seen has been rough google translations. I'm hoping someone from the forum can help me understand the settings and features. I plugged the CDI and the bike runs fun but seems to be hard to start. When I plug back in the stock CDI it starts right up. So I'm trying to figure out the different curve settings to try them out.
Here's what I have to go by, if anyone could help me understand or has any input I would appreciate it.
The 4 Curve has 4 possible curve settings, hence the name. They are as follows.
---
(1) Street, running the curve (recommended): --- do not take the whole (infinite speed)
(2) Standard curve: the green line and chalk line then --- (infinite speed)
(3) rapid curve: the Green Line, Yellow Line , chalk line all connected --- (infinite speed)
(4) heavy curve: the yellow line and chalk line then --- (limited speed)
Street running curve (recommended): is the standard curve, in the acceleration of high-speed were strengthened. Suitable for single person (or light load) to use the daily walk.
Standard curve: the curve of the original car ignition to improve from. In the section of the acceleration speed slightly strengthened off the car's speed. Suitable for everyday use with a person or general load, general road.
Rapid curve: trying to low, medium, high, both for the degree of acceleration, and early reference to the early GS EN improvements come after the curve. Suitable for single people to pursue the accelerated use.
Heavy curve: torque in the speed section of the pursuit of some as large as possible, acceleration is smooth type, suitable for running a new car, truck climbing material, or with some off-road situations. After the turn the negative into the 10500 (non off the fire) speed limit, so speed is not a smooth operation of the engine after the shooting!

The unit came with 2 pink male connectors and one yellow and one green female connectors. Here's a pic of mine.

I'm assuming that I use these to set the different curves but the only information I have to go by is what humanbeing posted in one of the old CDI related threads.

Like I said from the info I assumed that leaving them all disconnected would give me Curve 1, the recommend curve from the listing. But the bike is hard to start like this. Once it's started it runs fine tho. Why would this be?
Re: 4 Curve Performance CDI Help
hard to start
#7 , #9 in http://www.motoyes.net/bbs/viewthread.php?tid=328873 explains it
The stock one -turn key > button > start at once vs The "new" turn key > button > start after some second
-
It won't explodes , just follow that "3 wire" image :icon10: using "jumping" method in "test" . Real time change curve= switch installed :mwink:
#2: 1.connect 2.connect 3.--- seems had best result in above link

So it's normal and okay for it a take a big longer to start? Also, in the "3 wire" image which wire is number 3? I guess I am confused what I am connecting. Am I connecting the green wire(1) to the yellow wire(2)? Or am I connecting the green and yellow wires to the pink wires?
So if I have this right
Curve 1 = None connected, all open
Curve 2 = Connect green to yellow, pinks not connected
Curve 3 = Connect green to a pink, connect yellow to a pink
Curve 4 = Connect yellow to a pink, green and other pink not connected
Update: I think that's how it wires and if so I now need to find me a water proof switch to make them all work. Any suggestions for a switch? I just tested green to yellow and it definitely seems to be more responsive and everything about the bike felt better. More throttle response, better pull, more power. Just felt more in tune, sounded better.
Re: 4 Curve Performance CDI Help
1 all open
2 connects green & pink
3 all closed ie. connects green + pink + yellow together
4 connects yellow & pink

I can't say for sure how much shipping was because I bundled it with a luggage rack which weighed quite a bit and had them shipped here. The unit was $42.4 USD and then whatever shipping would be to wherever you're located. I am in Ohio in the USA and it took like two weeks for the entire process. Them purchasing it, to receiving it, to sending it out to me and receiving it. I think that's pretty quick. I paid for faster shipping and with the CDI and the luggage rack it was like $50 shipping. I would guess just the CDI would only be $10-15 shipped China EMS. So I have probably $50ish in the CDI total.
Re: 4 Curve Performance CDI Help
Another successful use of Taobao Focus? Looks as if you got faster delivery than Barnone with his Qingqi center stand. Might be worth a separate thread along the lines of "Ordering from Taobao.com without being in China (or knowing Chinese)"
There are lots of folks who will find such a thread interesting and useful.
cheers
Re: 4 Curve Performance CDI Help
Better using agents in Guangdong eg. taobaotrends.com for this cdi. The item is in Jiangmen / HK post small packet is CHEAP & reliable.
http://www.sendfromchina.com/ can check the REAL shipping cost.
Re: 4 Curve Performance CDI Help
Humanbeing and others. Do you think I am putting the bike at risk using this performance CDI? I already have done the common mods and don't want to put the bike through too much by overworking it. It was my understanding that this CDI would be better on the engine as long as I'm not abusing it. With two guys posting they blew their Qlinks up I am kind of worried....I don't run the crap out of mine tho. So far I have the mods I have done are as follows
125 Main Jet-35 Idle Jet
Jet Needle Clip On Forth From Top Position
Denso Iridium Spark Plug IX24-
SAI Removed
FMF Spark Arrestor Exhaust
About to install Sprocket Specialists #550-16 16T Front Sprocket
Then I wanted to use this 4 Curve CDI. I just had the bike tuned up, valves adjusted, oil changed, carb adjusted. Do you think this is too much? The bike seems to be running great and haven't had any problems whatsoever. I've made sure to to do proper maintenance and not abuse the engine. The highest I've ever had the RPMs was probably just under the 7k mark for a short period of time. Usually I'm between 6-6.5 cruising. The new sprocket on the front should lower this tho.
I'm wanting to attempt to take the bike on some long trips because it's what the bike is what I have and what I can afford. I'm learning as much as I can because motorcycle mechanics were foreign territory for me. I'm 175ish lbs and just want to be able to travel around at 45-60ish mph. I'm not in a hurry to get around and I'd always be using back roads so to speak.
