Has anyone had any success with performance CDIs?
Hi, I've been looking into performance CDIs for a while and I've read mixed reviews on them; some say that they have gotten good results from them and others say that they are a rip off and / or cause problems with starting and overall performance. Has anyone here had any good experences with them and can anyone reccommend me one that will work with my Sinnis Max, I'm pretty sure that it has to be a 4 pin like this one

Also is a performance CDI likely to wreck my engine after a while? I wouldn't be red lining it all the time I'd just like to maintain around 9k revs in 5th gear.
Re: Has anyone had any success with performance CDIs?
G'Day,
Playing around with high-performance Honda Z50 Monkey bikes (50>>175cc - 2+4valve horizontal engines) for a long time and very common in the "Z50 performance-tuning scene" to install MIC CDI's as they are unrestricted and free revving.
Gave away a few MIC no-nane CDI's to mates overseas and they look identical to top name brands out of Japan like Takegawa, Daytone, CF-Posh, etc. and they perform equal or better...... go figure....
Re: Has anyone had any success with performance CDIs?
So is the rev restriction on the stock CDI an intentional feature to protect the engine from excessive wear by over revving or is it just a design flaw?

G'Day,
Reckon a intentional safety feature to avoid engine over revving and most likely emission control.....

Hmmm I'll probably leave it then, thanks for the advice though.
Re: Has anyone had any success with performance CDIs?
it is probably the single most performance mod you can make
the standard street cdi is usually recessive and mild
a few more revs wont kill the motor as long as you dont stay in the upper reaches all day
as to what any given black box is actually doing... no way to know unless you get an ignition curve graph with it
not something i have ever seen with a chinese aftermarket cdi
easy enough to see what it is doing with a strobe light
its up to you if you can translate this info into something you can understand
