Petrol tank help!

Hi there everyone need to ask a quick question. The tank on my bike needs work doing to it so i thought about getting it sprayed. But then my friend said to me about sticker bombing it. It would look nice but i am having doubts about it because of the petrol leaking over when filling up. If i buy ordinary sticker bombs of ebay i have been told that they will react to the petrol and then mess up. But one person said to me about putting lacquer of it. Once i was told this i ask someone else and they said that it wouldnt work. Can anyone help me out please.
