Hi from Shanghai
Hi there. I have posted a lot but I guess I should introduce myself. I am a Canadian teaching at an international school outside of Shanghai just across the border in Jiangsu province. i have only been in China since Feb. 2009 but I think I am adapting well.
I am right now riding an old Honda Rebel 250, but hoping to get something bigger/newer/shinier in the fall.
I started riding in 2003 and have owned a Yamaha XS650 (what a pile of junk)

a Suzuki DL650 Vstrom (nice bike, but I wasn't a fan)

a Kawasaki ZX9R Ninja (did most of my miles on it)

a Suzuki GSXF750 Katana (in Tasmania, a suprisingly cool bike)

a Yamaha TRX850 (in Perth. I still own it)

I have ridden BC, Alberta, down to LA, over to New Orleans, and back to Vancouver. I have ridden all of Tasmania and some Western Australia. Hoping to do a long China trip and Australia trip this summer (yeah I know it's winter in Aussie).

China is probably the only place that could have made me think a Rebel 250 is bad-ass. Really, any 250 on the roads of China is pretty sweet considering the general slow speed of traffic.
Got pics of the Rebel?

Yeah, as I said before, my little rebel (the mainstay of motorcycle training courses all over North America) is generally the fastest thing on the road. Only the big AUDI's are a lot faster.
Went blasting by a BMW 5 series the other day, and on the back it said 520i. A 5 series with a piddly 2 L engine? And most of them are. AUDI A6's with 1.8Ts.
As for bikes, with the 19 screaming horsepower (not a lot for a 250) I haven't encountered anything common that is faster. I see the odd Honda CB400 or CBR400RR in Shanghai.
I am afraid my buddy is going to buy a Yamaha Virago 250 with 21 hp and the hp wars will begin.
