My god - 28 pages about a China-bike - this must be one honkin' hot ride that attracts the babes!
Sounds like CCW is saying that the DF250RTB is an illegal copy of their Heist.
Starting from the front.
Different wheels
Front disk brakes on opposite sides
Different rake
Different forks
Different triple trees
Different handlebar risers
Different handle bars
Different mirrors
Different fenders
Different controls
Different frame
Different forward controls
Different engine placement in frame causing CCW's filter to stick out
Different fuel tank
Different battery placement
Different seat and seat spring
Different ignition key lock and placement
Different fake oil tank
Different rear wheel adjustment
Different turn signals and placement
Different rear fender and bracing
I'm sure that I have missed many other differences but if Dong Fang copied CCW then they did a pretty poor job.
Don't know which bike hit the market first.
Not saying that one is better than the other as both seem pretty good to me. My point is don't believe the marketing guys hype.
Barnone dont get me wrong i loved the DF250RTB, it had such a sweet tank on it and it looked different even from other Bobbers. What ever the issue is between the 2 manufacturers is isn't really my concern. I wanted to keep the bike but Scooterdepot wanted it back. the info I got about the bike not being able to be titled in NJ/NY/PA came from their DMV agencies because I was trying to get it titled at least in another state.
The whole thing is a bit heartbreaking really but I dont want to keep a bike that i cant make legal
Speaking of the lil black beauty, and I'm done sulking about it, what new adventures have you had on it did the new front sprocket come in?
Gordo:
I'll let you know how it all works out here in NY once I get the bike in hand.
And there are plenty of differences with the CCW and the Dong Fang, if you want to get down to brass tax on it the CCW is really just a bigger clone of the kikker 5150 hardknock.
That is a bike I was going to get before finding the Don Fang, also those 5150's are 100% illegal and kelly kikker is being investigated on how he was able to even bring the parts into the U.S. and also how he was faking VIN #'s other then that those are some of the best looking bobbers I have ever seen. I personally like the design of the CCW Heist because its more raked out and just looks of better quality so I would imagine paying the $1000 more polished then the Dong Fang, but for a few dollars you can make the Dong Fang look how ever you want. The major issue at hand really is getting it titled/regged. I cant really trust what countyimports say because of what just happened to you, and you have posted pics that show DF250RTB all over it. All in all though if Its able to be regged here in NY you can always orders a new one from somewhere else and just cross the bridge and get regged up =)
I think the worst case for me will be having to send down the MSO to one of my brothers in Florida along with a power of attorney and have him reg/title the bike down there for me.
Aboshi - good luck with it it really is a great Bike and a lot of fun. hopefully it works out better for you than it did for me
The 14 tooth will fit with a bit of trimming on the cover or leaving it off but the chain is too short even with the wheel all the way forward. I ordered a 520 chain repair kit from Dennis Kirk which will add a link. The chain has not stretched much if any in 500 miles.
Took a hundred mile back road ride down in the Glades yesterday and she is running fine. Definitely not an Interstate cruiser which we all figured with a 229cc motor.
Gonna add a little more preload in the rear seat to fit with new handle bars.
About ten years ago a friend from Australia came to visit in Florida and bought a bike to ride around. He was able to register/tag it in his name using his home address. Maybe things have changed since? Some of the non FL resident guys that I ride with in the scooter group have cars and bikes registered in Florida.
I'll ask if they were required to have a FL mailing address.
barnone:
I have a house in over in the Tampa area, so I can use that mailing address if needed. A good plus is I wouldn't need insurance there =)
As for making it drivable on the highway your going to need to go 14/38 thats the only it will get to over 70 mph but it wont be able to be driven at that speed for over 30 mins at a time if that, and I'm sure it will vibrate you to death hehe.
Aboshi,
Then you are good to go with a Florida address. I did both my Qlink and Pitster by mail since I was in NC at the time.
EDIT: Turns out that you don't need a FL address according to my friend that lives in Virginia. He emailed me back and said he had two bikes registered/tagged in Florida and uses his VA mailing address. One of his bikes is in my shop here in FL and the other one is in VA. He has a condo on Sanibel Island that he rents out and there is no outside storage so he keeps one or more of his bikes in my shop. He won't tell me how many bikes he has but I know he has six old Triumphs and maybe 20 others.
Hey guys 2nd to last update on the bike - I received a call from Sunny Side Sports that they confirmed that the Bike was picked up and being shipped back and i should have my money back plus the extra shipping i paid on the MCO delivery by next Friday.
Aboshi good luck with the Bike
Barnone thanks for all the input and help. - I just bought a CCW Heist
Oh definitely
:EDIT:
Here's the new thread
Gardo,
Congrats on the Heist purchase. Hope it works out better for you.
I am still running too rich with two washers under the needle so am down to one now. She pulls good.
I think Aboshi recommended the 105. My DF is running fine at high RPM now with the 100 main jet. Stock was a 88 so the 100 is a big jump. I am working on mid range by fooling with the needle and am still waiting for the larger pilot jet to arrive.
The bike's engine really needs more displacement and that's my long range plan to improve the performance of the bike. That vapor ware 400cc CG250 would be nice. My bike has enough beef, chain, brakes, etc to handle it. See if you can get the CCW China connection to check into it.
i spoke to them about it and something that has come up i think if I could get my hands on a CB500 engine it may work
size on the frame + brakes, chain and so forth. I think the DF250RTB has more room for this improvement without making the ride uncomfortable. The frame on the DF250RTB is slightly larger
now then with that its going to need an oiltank fabbed up and a few other items to make it work. Maybe I'm wrong and just dont see it clearly but an inline 2 would suit the bike just right
maybe the rebel 450 motor would be a good fit =)
*edit*
Scratch that it would be way too much work =(
The best bet might be to get that 400cc motor imported.
But if your going to be spending all this cash on this bike you might as well just get a used honda shadow vlx and bob it.
I find the vlx all over the place with less then 900 miles on them for $2000-3500, and for just a few more dollars you can convert it into a bobber.
Or even a honda rebel, they are very easy to bob and are less then $2k
Gardo,
Here is a 500cc single that looks like it will fit.

or this one

See if you can get the CCW China connection to check into it.
Thx for the link MJH
barnone:
You got a PM =)
barnone:
Thank you for giving me your VIN #
Now time for some good news!!!
The Tech dept. of DMV ran the VIN and said it came back as Dong Fang manufacture, and NY does not care about the manufacture they only care if it is DOT/EPA approved =)
So they told me I can title/reg the bike here no problems as long as it doesn't say off road on the MSO. The guy I spoke with did however tell me he used to have a list of states that the manufacture needs to register in or you will never be able to register there, and guess what (NJ is one of those states). I should have the create on Thursday and then I hope shortly after the MSO and then its off to get tittled =)
Aboshi - thanks for the follow-up. Good to know that I could, in theory, get one and register it using a cousin's address in upstate NY I suppose...
Overall though, I'm going to say it's not worth the effort for me. Have learned a whole heap of a lot by reading this thread and I thank you guys for passing on all the info!!!
Aboshi - that is awesome news, when I tried it they said no. good for you keep us informed about the bike
