Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
You guys that have installed a magnetic drain plug, have you caught anything?
Ive had one on my car for 17 years and never found a spec...
Since I have learned at best they are for inspection, and if the oil and filter are doing its job, you should never see anything. Though if you do, your engine has already suffered catastrophic damage that needs to be addressed.
That said, I don't know if I can expect as much from a Cmoto and wonder if they are worthy.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I bought a new leftover Yamaha XT225 dual sport single in 2008. I had read about the large amount of crud on the oil filter the first few oil changes, and they even showed photos at this forum. Glad I had been warned, because it was the worst I have ever seen. By the 3rd change all was well, and the bike went on to run great. So, if you get a lot of crap at first, it's may not be the end of the world for that bike.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
ouch .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8__EwAT8VM at 12-16mph on a left hand turn , on a road that Ive rode many times , to have a random pile of nearly spherical gravel in the middle of the intersection (dead center in the left turn as I was doing) as SOON as the front tire touched the "puddle of marbles" (gravel) the leaning bike n I just plumb fell over
snapped left peg and mirror off , but highway peg I had installed acted as crashbars protecting ALL paint and motor :)
and I only sustained a mear scratch on the elbow and a sore shoulder
but needless to say , 5K + miles , n bike finally down for 1st significant amount of time (for new parts) of nearly 90% highway miles @ 70mph indicated (62-65 mph) :(
it did have some hickups out the box , voltage regulator relpaced , headlight replaced with car sealed beam , converting to LED's in rear taillight or they would just break at ever hard bump , blinker relay that the voltage regulator killed , battery and battery box mod to fit vent hose and allow charger hook up , chain tensioner , air pump deleat , conversion to a 625?from the stock 520 chain to have more front sprocket options and 2 front and 3 rear sprockets to find the perfect ratio 2.0588 for sustainable speed/rpm engine sound for a 165lb man in flatland texas at 70 indicated , but I also have I car tire on the rear so the smaller size greatly effect the ratio vs stock
but Ive noticed the engine still has the throat of the honda CG 125 motor that it is , so I can only really get down is when its mighty chilly the airs thicker thus if the winds my direction , hovering +/- 80 mph doable , the warmer it gets thinner air the less my max atainable , Ive been concidering some kinda mini turbo :p

bummer.
i think ur just about the only one on this forum that wants to go 80 on these bikes...
but at least you werent going 80, u and the bike are mostly ok.
now to order some new parts...

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
80 isnt as bad as it sounds when your ONLY ever doing that on very smooth highways , with full leathers n full face helm (cause its like Freezing when airs thick nuff to go that fast)
shoot I actually geared it for 90 :p well 86.721 somethingish
off highway , I never hit 5th

i suppose the lack of acceleration isn't a big deal when ur 90% highway eh...?
whats ur ratio equivalent to a 33 tooth rear?
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
2.2 vs 2.0588 , but as Ive said previously , I use 5th as nuthing but an overdrive gear , when its cold though it still has some gittyup

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Sorry you had that happen to you. I once read about an accident in a MC magazine. A rider was on a nice curvy backroad, when suddenly he and his bike were just laying there. He hadn't seen anything. Turns out a truck had dropped a load of "beads", as used in bead blasting.

u said it brotha , it was pretty much that , but luckily low speed
and for top page i got metal bits in my 1st 3 changes not have mag oil plug though

For 3 changes?! At what interval were they?

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
120 , 300 and 500 , then been all clear from then till now
and Ive never "changed" the 10/40 gas station oil I put in it upon uncrating , I have drained it , strained it , then poured it back in

all due respect, why don' you ever replace it? Surely you must have to add some once in a while.......if it uses a little bit.....
thanks

Anyway that is her after 9015 miles. Only one other issue at the moment. seat has a tear in it, need to either repair or replace, but the replace seems to be more than I can afford at this time unless someone has a line to some decent prices for solo seats.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psb194f4b9.jpg

oh yeah, and she needs a bath. But hey she's a rat and a little dirt never hurt anyone.:icon10::icon10::icon10:

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Have you had any other problems with the bike? I'm still working through this thread. Did you have any gas tank leak? I have seen that they are dropping this model, or, at least changing a few things. This tank seems to be dropped in favor of a Sportster looking peanut tank, and these bars are gone too.

what kind of performance have you seen since removing the secondary air injection? better? worse?
did you need to make any adjustments afterward?

An upholstery shop should be able to bang out a quick cover for around $50.Maybe less if they can get by without stitching.

Nothing out of the ordinary, but i did have the same tank issue with the studs leaking. I had the dealer send me a new tank and installed it with small rubber washers and not so tight on the nuts. I used nylon nuts. No leaks since. Everything else has been normal maintanance. I love this bike, and it loves me.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
just got back and mine hauls. fast warm up and great low growl with no pop or back . glad to remove the SAIS

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I feel the hand controls are too far out. How can i know what parts will be a direct replacement? Is there a fit number or something?

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
IMO , the air deleat does nuthing but remove the popping on decell
and it is a 125 turned into a 250 , but it still breaths like a 125 , if u inhibit the air flow at all , aka a better air cleaner ur gunna slow down
when its 40-50 degree's out itll run to 80 indicated (if geared for it) , at 90-100 it struggles around 70 , because it cant breath well because the warmer airs thinner
hmmmm , intercooler ? nitrous "drizzel" ? turbo charger ? :O
I would bet with enough airflow , it would compeat with most 250's out there speed wise

so performance wise, whats the consensus on the secondary air injection? scrap it? keep it? or it really doesn't matter much?

Air induction is an emissions thing. Its purpose is to complete the exhaust burn, AFTER the exhaust valve. It raises the exhaust pipe temp and causes a lean (popping on decel) condition.
Removal will do nothing but lighten (less weight) and stop lean popping. Leaving in place will also do nothing for performance (unless it fails re: vacuum leak at carb).

so everyone is taking it off for the sake of vanity eh?
well i might as well keep it and be a good earthling i suppose...

You'll have to find a place that has a lot on hand and try to match something up.
