Re: Jialing JH-150GY-3 impressions
finally got my boxes delivered and mounted - still waiting for a couple of accessories. The build quality of these is good, the service from the company is bad. If I had to do it again I'd go with the SEVEN brand rack and the BJG brand box. My buddy ordered a BJG top box for his Super Sherpa the same time I ordered my panniers, I think I like his better. These panniers are the exact same dimensions as the medium size BJG panniers, by the way. Oh also fyi: handdlebar width (with installed brushguards) 83.5cm, pannier width: 85cm - so less than an inch wider than the handlebars.

Re: Jialing JH-150GY-3 impressions
Very interesting DW - thanks for posting. I was just about to pull the trigger on some more boxes. Can I ask you ...
1) Any specific reason why you think the BJG is better? I'm also interested in that BJG top box for my JH, and perhaps the side boxes for a different bike. I've been comparing the Seven boxes to the Tourfella, and aside from price, I can't really see much difference. But it is impossible to determine differences from pictures. I'm happy with the TFs, but would also be happy with saving some coin.
2) Do you know what the mounting dimensions (in the rectangle) are of the Seven mounting rack? I own a pair of the large Tourfella panniers, and it would be great if the TF's and Sevens could be interchanged from bike to bike.

Seems the TFs are A = 31 cms; B = 18 cms (measurement taken from my boxes' pucks)
Thanks
PS: That's a bummer about having to hack the rear carrier - alas, TIC.

Re: Jialing JH-150GY-3 impressions
SEVEN: 外径长宽 30厘米X20厘米
BJG: 310X200mm
You might be able to get them to make it at a specific dimension though, but the fact your current ones is shorter means you still might be able to swap.
As to the boxes, the reason I like the BJG boxes better:
1) 25% cheaper
2) BJG has metal hinge, SEVEN is plastic hinge <- this actually surprised me! *BJG Top Box has a plastic hinge too!

3) The BJG box relies on an aluminum lip with a rubber seal for the water-proofing whereas the SEVEN box is plastic on top and bottom. The bottom has a "ridge" and the top a "notch". I suppose they both seal well, my fear is cracking the plastic. In addition the plastic trim is seal with some kind of adhesive to waterproof itself to the box.

4) The extra plastics on the corners of the SEVEN boxes. I'm sure they'll assist in protecting the aluminum, but I'm not sure if it's worth the extra dozen rivets that could potentially sacrifice water-proofing and would be hard to replace in the event of a break.
Either way, I'm sure they're both quality - and they actually seem fairly similar in build quality and craftsmanship. Also, if you're looking for a top box the decision is easy- SEVEN doesn't make one ;)
Re: Jialing JH-150GY-3 impressions
the JH is looking good, have you tried riding it fully loaded yet?

I haven't loaded up the panniers but I've ridden a fair amount double up with my wife onroad and light offroad. The only thing is that factory it's pretty road-tuned in terms of suspension, which I don't mind but my wife sometimes does (mostly when potholes are involved). I believe fahni has a pretty good ride report too, he was probably pretty loaded down on his trip!
Few more pics, I had forgotten that I ordered this with the boxes! I've now ordered the bag inserts too- they didn't have them listed at the time I ordered, 50RMB for 2 bags was worth a shot.
I'm thinking I'll probably swap out the straps for some simple velcro or snaps, while it's cool looking it's just not convenient for access to the tank.
More aluminum!

I mounted it just above the bottom of the box (leaving enough room to open the latch)
It sticks out now just shy of my license plate, so it's not too big

BTW this extra gas can is a "gift" to all my friends on their R9s who call me when they run out of gas. I got tired of bungee-ing my 10L steel can to the back.

Be interesting to hear what they are like.

Saw that too - looks interesting. But I've heard that Beijing stations only fill metal ones - don't know for sure.
TJ also has a mosquito (R9) problem? Governments should spray for them.
Re: Jialing JH-150GY-3 impressions
I'm looking into these panniers!
By the way, I see they have the BJG top box in 3 sizes, 40, 50 and 60 L.
Re: Jialing JH-150GY-3 impressions
I don't know much about motorcycles but he didn't change just the tank, he also added EFI? Why? Too advanced for me. Same with the carburetor. Anyway it's really interesting for me to see how many changes you can make to your motorcycle. Thanks.
Re: Jialing JH-150GY-3 impressions
its a shame about those pop rivets
they could easily build the boxes with solid aircraft style rivets
just as fast once you know how , cheaper and water tight
btw to seal the pop rivets put a dab of sealant in the holes

that sound like some overkill. Were you having serious issues or he just didn't know how to work on carbs? :P
How about some pictures and how does it run now?
