When a non vented gas cap is used (on other brand motorcycles) that "knob" is used to vent the tank. It is filled/blocked off with solder, on your tank and is why you have a vented gas cap.

Re: Adjusted valves, and messed with the carb. UPDATE
your right that low of gearing you should be pinging against the rpm cap constantly , checked your fuel filter ? make sure choke is all the way off ? checked spark plug ? checked fuel line for good flow ? are brakes dragging ?

that's a pretty neat look.
living in NY, i must admit whenever i used to see those (place pejorative ethnic group here) cruising in their IROC's, radiating some neon colors;
while i was wondering why they needed the attention, i was secretly thinking it was pretty darn cool looking

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
So after adjusting my valves to spec, I can't get the bike to idle correctly, ides nice while leaning on the kickstand but as soon as I stand it up and turn the wheel straight it idles waaaay too fast. Can't seem to get it adjusted right

If you changed your bars, I can that happening.I bought one from a triumph dealer online at first then found a local triumph shop. You basically have to look at the length and then the barrel nipple ends to make sure they are the same.
I found my first one on ebay .
The problem could become reoccurring if you do not lubricate the ends. I noticed that there is not any lube on these bikes when you first get them. That is why mine broke the first time. and the second until I was made aware of why it was happening. Now lubed and trouble free.

When the handle bars are straightened is the cable pulled out of the socket at the carb? Check the cable routing. Make sure there is a little slack at the twist throttle.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Got the 30 tooth rear sprocket installed and tested a little. I don't have a long straight away here in the mountains close to our cabin so will have to try a high speed run tomorrow when I have more time. I did get close to 30 MPH in first gear which is nice and did not have any problem going up my steep gravel driveway.
Attachment 13067
The sprocket sure looks small. So I am now running a 30/13 vs the stock 45/13. Big difference and I believe a keeper but will do more testing before recommending it. I think the drive ability is improved.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
agree Bar , sounds like a tight cable problem

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Where did you find the sprocket?

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Where do I find the sprocket bolts and a clutch cable for the DongFang Bobber?
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Honda part number for the bolts is 90128-382-670
I bought four at https://www.partzilla.com/
I don't know if they are needed but some have had problems with them breaking so I figured I would replace them when I had the sprocket off.

If it isn't the cables,it's the float level.I had this issue on my V Star but it has down draft carbs and leans significantly more when on the side stand.

Is every problem like what you had on your V Star? I betting on the cable.

The problems I've had on the V Star are due to previous owners neglect and me learning the quirks of the bike. The VStar has dual push/pull cables and it was the first thing I checked. It took a little while to figure it out, but once I did,it was a duh moment.

Hope that photo is wrong on the link you posted because that is not the right sprocket. I've had good success with the guy at Old Bike Barn so I am sticking with him. How much does your guy charge for shipping?

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Thanks so much!!! Any ideas on a clutch cable replacement other than custom?

shipping is free with a $25 purchase, 2 day free if you have the prime service.
sorry i thought everyone knew about Amazon, I always check there first as their volume drives prices thought the floor.
Full disclosure, owned the stock for almost 15 years

Have you been able to find the washer and circ clip that holds on the sprocket?

What do you mean? Are you missing the big washer and the circle clip? I reused the ones that was on my 2012 DF.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
No. Just looking for back ups. Felt like I was going to break the clip when I removed using needle nose pliers in reverse. How did you take the clip off?

There is something called a snap ring plier, rings are often very difficult to remove otherwise. Use them and you wont likely damage the ring.
This set is a real deal for this size ring, i cant fathom what the few bad reviews are all about.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
so how many miles do you other 2012 drivers get before needing a fill?
I seem to get close to 95 (make that 105), indicated, of course there is a notable amount of gas left in the tank, just this tank seems to push it back, and has the petcock mounted a bit high and forward.

I got 78 MPG and 81 MPG on the last two fill ups on my 2012.There is almost no stop and go traffic here in the mountains. I put two gallons in to fill it up when my tank was new and empty so say 120 miles should be safe assuming there is gas not too far away.
What kind of MPG are you getting?

Yep, those HF 10" snap ring pliers are great for removing the circlip but my set is in Florida so I did it the hard way with small screws drivers and a small punch that fit in the hole.
