Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
This is a pic from my ride on Sunday. This is a stretch of the original brick-paved Lincoln Highway west of Omaha. It was a little rough.....

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Nick,
Nice photo. I'm glad to see that a bit of the brick Lincoln Highway still exists
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Very cool pic. But that sure looks like a bumpy ride with this hard tail. I know I feel it when I ride the bricks they have in certain parts of the town here.
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Barnone,
Got the DF fired up again tonight. I spent about 45 minutes tracing wiring with my multimeter, nothing seems out of place or damaged, although I did reposition some wiring under the tank. Swapped in a ceramic fuse, and fired up with no issue (using the new performance coil). Starts easier than before, noticeably better, but I've still got to fiddle with the carb.
Question: does everyone else's DF have it's headlights on constantly? The "illumination switch" pins out correctly based on the schematic, but changing it from off to running lights/ lights on has no effect whatsoever. I almost thought that perhaps the combination of lights and starter motor might be drawing too much at startup, causing my fuse issue.
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Woody,
US bikes are required to have their headlights on when the engine is running. That headlight switch is made for the world market.
Where did you get the performance coil?

It's mostly a dead thread, but I have info and a link posted on My Dong Fang RTB Springer thread. Just to lazy to move it, but you're welcome to move it if you wish.
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Barnone,
Here's the Amazon link for the style of coil I'm running now. http://www.amazon.com/Performance-Ra...+1987-2004+New
I figured that the lights were supposed to be on, as every other bike I see has them running. Just kind of aggravating to have a switch there for no reason.

Senior moment. I meant to ask where you got the performance CDI.

Roadkill,
Just moved your post below. I'll order the CDI to try on my DF.
"This has become pretty much a dead thread, but I've found a "racing CDI" that seems to have made a big difference in the power curve and also reduce some of the mid and upper range popping I was experiencing. This is a combination package with both coil and CDI, but I wasn't impressed with the coil and ordered one from another vendor. The CDI features no rev limiter which doesn't matter much cause I think it would be hard to hit the stock limiter under normal operating conditions. It does have a 4 degree advance that has made a big difference in my application. That advance has not caused any starting kickback. Here is the address: http://www.ebay.com/itm/250908061794...84.m1439.l2649
The coil arrived today. Plug and Play just like the CDI. I spent maybe 20 min installing both and am very pleased with the difference. I didn't notice much at the low end which is as I expected, but mid range right through her max is very much improved. Here is the link for the coil:http://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Perform...item2338aad229"
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Well Bike has been down for two weeks. Starter took a kill. I figure it is the celanoid in the starter, cause it whines o.k. but does not turn the bike over. Bought a brand new battery( needed one anyway).I called scooterdepot and ordered a new starter from them on friday 5/2/14 had to keep calling back all last week until I finally got someone to explain why I have yet to be charged on my card and why it hasn't shipped yet. Got a load of comments from him, but he assures me(not very assuring) that when it is ready to ship they will contact me. I told them I need this in a rush, does not seem to matter much. I had to call them as I had nowhere else to go to find this starter.Costing me around $90 shipped so far, not real sure exactly what the final total will be until the contact me telling me it shipped.
As much as I love this bike, some things just cause alot of unnessesary headaches when trying to locate parts for it. Maybe it is just that this is my daily driver, and I need it every day to and from work. Or maybe I am just impatient. Either way it sucks that i cannot ride when the weather has been awesome around here.
Will keep you posted on when the starter gets here.

This one might work. I'd call them and ask. Good guys there.

I would not want to pick on of those up, and it be incorrect. This one that I am supposed to be getting is the actual starter for the bike. But I will keep record of these on hand, just in case I run into an issue with scooter depot. I still have not heard back from them about my order going on the secodn week now. Only good thing is it has been raining realativle hard for the past two days, and expected to rain tomorrow. But the rest of the week looks great for riding so my attitude will change real fast when the sun shines again.

You have been wanting to put more motor in your DF250RTB-B.
I've tried to track the guy down but no luck so far.
I am less that ten miles away from the Dragon now that I am in NC for the next six months.

good to hear you're back home.
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Ref: "Racing CDI"
Axa It's not adjustable but I have been running it for a couple of weeks now and am happy. I saw a couple of adjustable units but I'm not smart enough to set one up.

Track down which guy???
Need to know these things more than ever cuz i have even more reason for finding a motor, and more motor if at all possible.
Look what happed on the way home from work tonight...
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-M...it?usp=sharing
Yup, the plug porcelain is gone!
Note the impact damage, so either it fell off and banged around in there or something else gave and did it...
Wont know the root cause till its dissected but lets hear your guesses...
Here are the facts, cool night 20°C
Didn't much let it warm up, was in a rush home to beat the rain.
But not unlike usual, i ride full throttle, red lining it with few stops on the 8 mile 15 minute ride, only this time i made it less than 2 miles when it died...
Pulled over, pushed it back...
Never noticed a white plug or my bike running lean otherwise, even before bumping the main jet to 110 last fall.
And as it was only 3 minutes in im not thinking heat.
It was a NGK DPR8EA 9 plug from autozone, a match for the D8TC I believe.

well truth is im at the same place with the savage as i was in the winter, as ive been wasting time rebuilding my old ford.
just had to drop the transmission to get a stuck axel out..
I see now, that does look like the RTB frame.
That was my original intent with getting the LS650, but after measuring it was very tight... and I thought, why destroy a perfectly good bike, when i have everything needed to make another.
That said the only silver lining for me just now trashing the engine would be having to replace it with something worthy like that
