So, nobody ended up getting one registered in NY? (What a waste of a day. 49 pages in this thread). I see a dealer local to me has these listed for sale on craigslist http://rochester.craigslist.org/mcd/2276054754.html . I'm pretty sure its the same bike. Looks like identical pictures from other web sites. I would prefer the cheaper internet prices, but if he has titles, that would save a lot of time and hastle.

Re: Saddle Bags
Other,
That's the same bike.
A brick and mortar dealer has to charge more to make a profit so he can stay in business and support his customers. If you buy from a internet drop shipper like I did you are pretty much on your own. I've done it with four Chinese bikes. You need to be an experienced motorcycle owner/mechanic to make it work.
Dealers don't have titles, they have MSOs that are turned into titles by your state's DMV. If that NY dealer can get a Dang Fong DF250RTB titled in NY then you should be able to also.
"May-Tech inc has been in business over 25 years and will be here to service what we sell after the sale! " Very good point if it is true and might be worth the extra money.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I am not an experienced rider/owner, but I keep my rusted out '87 Dodge Plow truck starting up to plow my driveway every winter and I keep my 725cc Briggs & Stratton V-Twin motor on my tractor running to mow 6 acres. I even watched a mechanic replace a head for me last year after I didn't notice mice had built a nest under the engine cover causing an overheating issue, bending both push rods and destroying the valves. I was annoyed when I realized that I could have done it myself.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I haven't registered in NY yet, but thats because I have been going through a charge back process with countyimports...
They said they would call me over 2 weeks ago to send a truck to pick this thing up and haven't called...
Also they wont respond to my CC co. about the charge back and they also wont respond to the BBB.
I am starting to charge $20 a day storage fees on them but come the 25th I will be needing my parking spot back for my car and this bike will need to go on the streets so I wont have a choice to register the bike. Guess they really don't give a shit if they get this unit back or not so it must cost too much and they are gonna eat their loss.
It only costs them $998 for one of these bikes and thats only if they aren't getting it in bulk, but then again they don't stock shit! they are just a reseller for scooterdepot.
So shipping was to me was $200 my cost but shipping back to them is going to be $300 + I am imposing fees every day and they are now close to $600 so like I said they are most likely writing it off as a loss and don't give a shit...
Following up on the rusting issues I will take some pics but the spokes are fully rusted now even with wax protection!

Do not register that bike man. until you do it is their property, i found out about that from my insurance agent. the moment you reg the vehicle they will not take it back and you have legally taken ownership. which means that your claim becomes null and void.

Then IMHO, you should buy the Dong Fang (if it is the bike for you) from that dealer assuming he is legit.
May-Tech's web site at http://keres.meccahosting.com/~a0000dc7/
Looks legit to me but a visit from you should be in order.

Barnone i disagree but outside that what are some things that One should be asking this shop, which looks like a mower and outdoor equipment shop and not a MC dealer.
I think the first thing One should ask if it will pass NY inspection? and have they had any registered? Do they stock parts? What is the warranty on the bike?

Good point do they need to send out for the MCO or do they have them on site? From all my research Sunny imports these bikes so it looks like they all come from scooterdepot

I set up a deal so I get my MCO's Fedex'd to me when the bikes ship.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Thanks. I will have to look into all that. Still not sure if this is what I want to do or look into an older bike with a little more power that I can modify. Would be cool if I could actually see or ride it too. One thing about their web site though was that there was no info about this bike.

Gardo,
I recommended that Other visit that dealer and get the feel of the place. Of course ask for proof that you can register the bike in NY.

This is the informational video from scooter depot. I am sure those who have been involved in this thread for a while have seen it, but those newly interested would like to see it.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Other,
That video is new to me and thanks for posting it here. The guy did a good job of pointing out the features of the Dong Fang bobber.
I didn't know that the tires/wheels were actually tubeless with some sort of sealed spokes. If that is true than then that is a nice safety and usability feature of the DF. I'm headed out to the shop to verify that there are no tubes.
EDIT: The DF does have tubeless valve stems which is great news. I'll have to add a plug kit and air pump to my tool roll.
The tubeless valve stem and what appears to be normal spoke nipples. I don't know how they seal the rim , guess I will find out when I replace a tire.
Nice 8 ball Barnone, They use a safety bead and a sealant of some sort when the Rim is made. I know a few HD guys that had to replace the bead do to corrosion and rot. But the newer ones are supposed to hold up okay.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
The bike looks great in the video, looks a little more "oldschool" I guess compared to the Heist. I like the MPH speedo with the idiot lights built in, that seat looks pretty comfy too.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
barnone, How far are these trips you are taking? What speed are you cruising at? If I were to get one of these, I would want to use it for my 30 mile each way commute. I could spend some time on a 65mph highway, but I could also do back roads the whole way.

Gardo,
I've never heard of a stock Harley with a spoke wheel and no tube but I could be wrong. Some people have used a sealant to run tubeless but that is a questionable practice.
The tubeless rim has to be designed to hold a tubeless tire without a tube. The tire has a bead. I guess that is what you are referring to as a safety bead (part of the tire)?
If a sealant is used, it would have to be applied after the spokes are adjusted and every time the spokes are adjusted.
Here is another approach. http://www.nuetech.com/
I'll let you know how the Dong Fang does it when I need to change a tire.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
My run out to the ranch is 35 miles one way on a 55 MPH road. When I ride with the scooter group we might do a hundred miles with a stop for lunch.
These Dong Fang and Heist bobbers have a 229CC push rod engine so they are pretty much topped out at a true 65MPH. Don't believe these internet MPH.
If I was doing a daily commute on a 65 MPH highway I'd want more motor but that is my opinion. Yes, you can do it but people around here are doing 75 plus on a 65 MPH highway. You get on an interstate you better be able to run 80 with some juice left over. Son of a bitches will run over you.
