This is precisely why I'm considering a pre-2008 EX250 as my first bike when I get back to the states. From what I've read, while the new 250 is a better bike, the posture is much flatter and has a much more sport-bike feel than the older model. I'm looking for something that will be better for light touring, so I'm considering the older 250 or the KLX 250SF. The problem with the 250SF is it has a _tiny_ gas tank, which is really annoying.

Alternatively, if I can find a reasonable GS500 (either E or F), I might get that. The SV650 is a nice bike too, but its probably more than I want to spend and more bike than I should start with. I've heard it can be ok for a new rider though, despite the engine size, so I'm not sure.

I bought an SV650 as my first road bike, and have 7 years and 37,000 miles on it, and I still love it. It does everything, from touring to commuting to racing track days. You can find a nice used older model for around $2000 usd. The EX250 is a good bike too, and older ones can be found fairly cheap, but the SV will probably be better for all around use. Gas mileage will obviously be better on the 'Ninjette', but I get about 50 to 55 miles per gallon on the SV.

Just saw a GW250 in Beijing - price is 26,700 rmb ... plus taxes, etc, etc, etc. Probably cheaper in every other city, except SH.

Where did you see it? At the Suzuki dealership? Will check the Pubei Lu dealership on the weekend.

Yes, at the "dealer" in Tongzhou (suburb of Beijing). Not sure if it is an authorized Suzuki dealer, although it has Suzuki signs in front (which I've learned doesn't really mean anything).

Actually, not really sure how he got the bike, because I went to a different Suzuki dealer in town today, and it told me that it won't have the bike until next month (and it wouldn't give me a price).

So clearly the Haojue bosses get their way, and the bike goes on sale....too expensive. Shame now they won't sell hardly any. If they just could'a sold it for 18,000-20,000 they could of sold truck loads.......lame.

Surely the plates in Beijing will be much more than TD is estimating!

Seems a hell of a lot to pay for a 250, unless it has truly breakout quality. The JH600 (OK, I'm partisan) is only a bit north of 30k before plates, taxes, etc, etc.

Definitely agree. Seems most of the posts on motorfans argue the bike should be no more than 20K, and that's pushing it. Suzuki offers a nice little en150 that is fuel injected for 11K, and seeing them side by side ... well, the 250 is nicer, but not 2.5 times nicer.

Suzuki does not sell many big bikes in Japan, they sell a 1250 Bandit and that’s it, that is or would be the GSX1250FA in the USA.

The GSX1250FA has a MSRP of $11,599.00 in the States.
In Japan it sells for $14,720.00 as the BANDIT 1250F

Take a look at the offerings Suzuki has in Japan, then take a look at what they offer in the USA.

There is not much in the area of common model offerings, another one that is shared is the TU250X/ST250E

Get this the ST250 sells for $6,177.28 in Japan and the same TU250X is selling with an MSRP of $3,999.00 in the USA.

We live in a world were the most you can get is what it is worth…or so it seems.


Sigh…I cannot get the Bigboy, it may be that they sell well in Japan? If the ST250 is 35% less in my country then it is in Japan then can I get the Bigboy for 35% less too? That would set it at $3,836.12, kind of pricey from my side…but since they end up selling the TU250 for under the MSRP I bet I could get one for $3,000.00..yeah in my dreams?
