I'm kind of thinking of heading out in direction of Chengde, no exact plan yet.

Be aware that it can be freeeezing cold at night out in Northern Hebei and Inner Mongolia.
I think it's a bit early to ride out there over night before mid to end may if you wanna camp.
Not sure if the hotels around Datan are open and if these have heating.

Eh I was thinking about camping. I hoped more for the desert heat;)

Reallly nice reports chinabiker! I have to see if I can see some of this places. How do you find all these gravel roads?
