I will ask
Resetting the error code (series of flashes) or eliminating it on the 650NK/650TR is pretty simple:
Here's a selection of different methods.
WOT = (twist throttle wide open [Wide Open Throttle])
1. Apply WOT (full throttle)
2. Turn ignition key to ON position.
3. Wait until the red FI/F1 light illuminates (be patient as this can take longer than normal).
4. As soon as red F1 appears,
5. Flick the kill switch to the 'ON' ignition position (meaning starter button won't work).
6. Let go of the WOT (throttle).
7. Wait several seconds.
8. Turn ignition key OFF.
9. Flick kill switch back to ignition ON position.
That's it, red F1 should be reset. To test you got it right, simply turn ignition key back to 'on' and the red FI/F1 light should illuminate for the short period as the ECU/ECM goes through it's checks.
Alternatively:
1. Apply WOT (full throttle)
2. Turn ignition key to ON position.
3. Wait until the red F/F1 light illuminates (be patient as this can take longer than normal).
4. As soon as red F1 appears,
5. Flick the kill switch to the 'NO' ignition position (meaning starter button won't work).
6. Let go of the WOT (throttle).
7. Wait several seconds.
8. Flick kill switch back to ignition ON position with the ignition key still in the ON position too.
Alternatively:
1. Apply WOT (full throttle)
2. Turn the key to the ON position (don't start the bike)
3. Keep WOT (approx.30 secs)
4. The red FI light will have one long flash
5. Let go of WOT
6. Switch the key off.
That's it should red F1 be reset. The red FI/F1 light should illuminate for the short period as the ECU/ECM goes through it's checks as per normal.
Further alternative if neither of the previous two options work for you:
1. Apply WOT (full throttle)
2. Turn ignition key to ON position.
3. Wait until the red F1 light illuminates (be patient as this can take longer than normal).
4. As soon as red F1 appears,
5. Release WOT (throttle),
6. Flick the kill switch to the 'NO' ignition position (meaning starter button won't work).
7. Wait five (5) seconds.
8. Flick kill switch back to ignition ON position with the ignition key still in the ON position too.
9. Turn ignition key to OFF position.
10. Turn ignition key to ON position.
11. Check that red F1 light illuminates in the normal manner.
That's should resest the red F1. The red FI/F1 light should illuminate for the short period as the ECU/ECM goes through it's checks as per normal.
Remember:
The error code sequence of flashes should be cleared, except where the cause of the error still exists. So what this is really useful for is to clear the error code for the "service" reminder/due (15 flashes = 1 long + 5 short).
In a worst case scenario one can always disconnect the battery (disconnect the earth/negative) for >10 minutes, this should clear any error codes.
Thank you very much Doc .....
Nice one Doc, really useful post, I copied and pasted it to a word file for my own reference.
Also pasted and stickied it into the maintenance section.
