the road from Nanning to Kunming is really bad, so that is the place to jump on the expressway.
I contacted Deppon for shipping and they said only will rent whole truck for shipping moto! Any other ideas...thanks

On February 23rd approx 200-300 Ch!na BMW MC Owners Club members will travel from PRC to Chiang Mai, Thailand for a MC race series held end of February at the Chiang Mai race track.
Some of these club members will be transporting their motorcycles via:
映輝物流 (Ying Hui Wu Liu [logistics company]) for 元3600 return (due to the volume of motorcycles being shipped).
I spoke with Ling Hui Logistics Company yesterday (17th Dec 2015), for an estimate to transport my GS to Kunming. An increased number of motorcycles shipped together would reduce the cost per unit.
Estimates:
Shanghai depot -> Kunming 元2000-2500 [one way] insurance was 3% of MSRP of my GS (insurance is bike model specific)
Ningbo -> Shanghai depot -> Kunming 元4000 (approx.) [one way] not including insurance.
Ying Hui company recommended I ride my MC up their logistics warehouse where it would be crated for the journey.

Approximately 8 hours.
If you were interested in shipping your bike at the end of this month (December) we could arrange to ship our 2 bikes at the same time - reducing the cost a little.

Yep, sounds about right. Actually 500 kuai for a wooden box is cheap, normally ~800 kuai though does depend on size of bike. Freight cost is on a par with Deppon. It's a hell of a long way (Guilin<->Shanghai) and is relatively inexpensive if I compare it to how much a similar consignment would likely cost me in NZ. Actually I had my Super Tenere transported ~500km by a commercial MC transporter in OZ. Bikes Transport charged me about AU$350 for a journey of about 400-450km. Admittedly no box needed as the bike was rolled into a purpose built trailer with a lift (2 levels) inside with a capacity to hold something like 20-30 MCs per trailer.
...'spose you could take your chances with finding a 700-1000 kuai freight forwarder or similar on one of the local Ch!nese biker BBS/forums or Taobao... or something, or else try your luck at the Ningbo Railway Station, otherwise you're probably having to look at riding down...
Re: Ningbo Zhejiang to Chiang Rai Thailand January 2015 to March 2015 - return
Riding in the rain sucks,,,,not a question how tough you are, but a pain and far more dangerous in an already dangerous place........
I paid for my electric scooter to be sent to ningbo from guilin 450 kuai and it was ok when arrived, but i really didnt care about it has it is 3years old with 15000 kilometers on it...but in guilin i know where to go to ship stuff.... you just drive around a certain area and find the company that heads in that direction as it is posted outside their building, then let the bargaining begin! of course i do want a box, but a box isnt necessary if it goes on a train, i would think...... the original box is in Taishan, the dealer has many but thats not nearby and to ship from there I dont know....
what to do??? if the train shipping is easy i might try that, especially if i can ride on the train. How to do, go to the train station and inquire? others wrote they had a shipper put it on the train!

I am sure the doc will not mind me updating the road condition of the G8511 ??
The bad news is since you rode the road nearly 1 year ago you are correct is saying
Quote:
"I suspect that it won't be before too long that this road will undergo a significant upgrade/transformation with the amount of traffic on the increase as the doors of progress open." about possible new road works ?
From the turn off to Xishuangbanna to the border town of Boten, about 110km distance a new 2 lane road is in process being completed with over 10 new tunnels and some very long bridges, this is major construction I kid you not which will last for over 5 years which will mean loads of construction trucks /machines which in turn has created loads of MUD on the road and if rain is in the air then the road will be a nightmare for us 2 wheel riders.
Even now in the early stages of construction police was at all the main construction points slowing people down and yes I see with my own eyes the POLICE was sweeping the road to clear some of the MUD, that's a first well for me it is.........
Here are a few pictures take from in my car.
