Re: Honda CB500X available in China?
Does one have to have a special visa to buy a bike in Thailand? Thai license? How long is the process?
Re: Honda CB500X available in China?
Hi Modron
My bike is in a English friends who lives there and I am hoping to get it in my name this year only because it's easier to get the bike in and out of Laos.
Think you can get it in your name just on a tourist visa but you need a address say if you rent a place then you need a letter from landlord.
As to BikerDoc bike he need to chip in with that imformation.
No need for a Thail driving license but I am sure you could need a IDP.
From when you buy a new bike from a shop it takes about 6 weeks for all the bike documents and number plate to be ready.
But in the mean time the shop dealer can give you a spical plate which allows you to ride legally.
It cost about 50 Rmb.

Thanks for this Prince.
Since I didnt finish my trip to Europe I have to start it again. I had this idea to buy a CRF250L in Thailand and ride it to Europe. Not anytime soon though. Will see how it unfolds ;)
Re: Honda CB500X available in China?
One needs a long term Thai Visa to register/plate a Thai plated vehicle in Thailand. The Visa could be a tourist Visa of 6months or longer, or a business/employment/retirement Visa which are >6mth duration/validity.
It could also be helpful to have a 'house-book' (home/property ownership document) in your name, as that might suffice even if one had a 30-60day tourist Visa, to get a Thai plated vehicle into your name.
There are agents that can assist with the formalities, for a reasonable fee...
I paid about 600THB for the agents fee I used. The actual cost of registering ownership, including inspection was about 2400THB on the CB500X. Keep in mind this in Bangkok however, and different jurisdictions might have different rules and costs etc.
Welcome to TIT... 1000x better than a TIC any day of the week IMHO.
YMMV...
PS.
TIT = mammary gland :naughty:
TIC = parasite that feeds of a host :eek2:
...just saying
Re: Honda CB500X available in China?
If this is your ideal now you can pick up 2nd hand Honda CRF 250l 1 year old with low km for 18.000 RMB or less .
And the bike should have extras allready fitted.
The only problem I see is what route you will take without entering China.

Geez, thats like rmb600 all together. Quite good deal. I will look into that visa option. Maybe there is an agent that can help with long term visa.

I didnt look at the route yet but it would have to be through Myanmar and possibly Bangladesh into India , Pakistan, Afghanistan and on the Pamir Highway.
Again, Ive not checked the political and infrastructural conditions yet ;)
Re: Honda CB500X available in China?
Before you think about a Thail bike.
Check to see if your route can be done.
For what you have said about the route without coming into China, I think it's going to be a NO NO Mordon.
And from what I have seen from your pictures the"Stans" is the way to go.
