Didn't make it to the ranch, decided to ride down to the beach instead.

bighabeeb,
Welcome to the mad house. Good place to learn about Chinese bikes.
The Cleveland Cycle Werks Heist has the same engine as the Dong Fang Bobber. The Heist appears to be a little more fancy but I like the plain looks of the DF. If I was close to a real dealer handling the Heist then I might consider it but it's a grand more. Don't know much about the Johnny Pag so no comment on it.
I'll get a photo of me(5'11" 200lbs) on the bike.
Still breaking mine in but it's not going to be a power house. Should be able to cruise at 60 MPH. It is fun to ride at a sedate pace. If you want more speed then you need more displacement.
Bar - thanks!
What I'm really in it for is something I can mod and "Fancy up" as I see fit...add some billet of my own choosing rather than that chosen by the bike manufacturers....pop on a longer tank, move the seat down to be more of a true hardtail look...and of course, some big-ass apes :)
Basically, for 2 grand, I don't mind taking things apart and teaching myself how to put it back together :)
Welcome Bighabeeb
I'm new to the forum as well and just bought the DF250RTB it should be arriving on Tuesday. This is my first bike and I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully I can get the MSO in quickly after the Bike arrives I'll be more than happy to postpics of the Bike when l get it
This Bike has a lot of potential with a fairly decent tank 3.8 gal. looks like enough space on the frame to put a 600cc engine
Gardo.
I'm been waiting almost a month for my MSO and bill of sale so I can get legally tagged.
Seller claimed they was mailed a few days ago and wants me to release the Paypal hold on his funds but no way will I do that.
I think the tank holds more like 8 liters (2+gallons). Maybe you can fill yours up from empty to get a true reading.
Me on the bobber.
LoL now I can definitely tell my brother it is a big boy bike.

Does this engine look like a 400cc CG125 that will bolt in my bobber? Just thinking for down the line. :lol8:
Here is link to all the EPA approved bikes http://www.epa.gov/otaq/cert/veh-cer...r-01-26-11.csv
I would like to evetually set that inot a dat set online that is searchable, but for now you can use the "find" feature in your browsers Edit option from the tool bar.
Dong Fang has an entry with the NHSTA but no filing for the coding of it VIN and thats an issue in some states.
you can search for it hear http://204.68.195.151/cars/rules/manufacture/
that NHSTA database uses %for a wildcard but just entering the WMI will pull up its entry.
Ningbo Dongfang Lingyun Vehicle Made Co
WMI is LXD
Zhangjiatan Village
Gulin Town Yinzhou District, 315040 Ningbo City 315040
China
They have no VIN decoding filings with the NHSTA they may be EPA DOT or not?
Converting an MSO to a title is procedural in each state and some enforce the federal regulation and some do not. The missing VIN decoding doc will stop it cold in some states that use it to verify it is what it says it is.
Not bad actually, not bad at all.
Meanwhile not meaning to change the subject on this thread, but for some reason I can't start a new one...
Any opinions on this:

I contacted the seller who confirmed $1500 shipped to the US...for a bike appearing on other sites for upwards of 4 grand.
Scammy?
Good to know MJH thanks for the info.
Barnone could you let me know the size tires the bobber has, I'm thinking of doing white walls
3 more days i had gotten the call from the shipper to confirm the delivery date :D
Front is 90/90-21 Rear is 140/70-18
DF came almost empty of oil and the owner's manual said to drain and fill with10w40 motorcycle oil so that is what I did at uncrating. I also installed a magnetic drain plug (MDP) at that time.
http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=mag...+ructus&_rdc=1
Today I passed 180 miles on the bike and a sticker on the engine said to change the oil and clean the strainer (300KMs) so I just did the task a few minutes ago.
I found what I usually find on the MDP at first oil change. It's real fine metal particles.

Usually the amount is much less at time goes on.
Looking good and even attractive in a weird way. Any room to make it a fatter bastard?
It worked on sand? It seems unbelievable it got as a far as the end of the street let alone as far as the beach, 'Chinese-made bobber' seems almost an oxymoron. You certainly don't suffer from haemorrhoids anyway! Just how soft is the soft-tail Barnone?
jape,
You in the sauce again?
No, it was a serious question! But some think I am always out of it.
We used to bob our road-bikes years ago, but for off-road not on-road use so we kept the rear-springs and sometimes put wider tyres on the back. But sand was impossible except with almost no air and that would rip the treads off when we got back on the road. Some of the lads made bobbers like yours from track-racing bikes and they had slicks on them, 'fat bastards' the yanks we worked with called 'em. My brother still has one in bits in his shed somewhere. And anyone with haemorrhoids couldn't ride a proper hard-tail bobber so I wondered how soft the rear-spring is because yours looks from the photos to have a coil-spring between the back frame members. Obviously the springing helps not just your backside but to keep traction.
jape,
It's a true hard tail.
Actually the ride is not bad.
Gotcha, looks just like the springing on some soft-tails. Thanks for that, now I know you too are nuts. Bloody bike with no rear springs, good luck and welcome to bad-back land! Thats why I have the meds ...
I just looked and found this site: http://www.custom-choppers-guide.com...-choppers.html
with this pic which is what i was thinking of:
Attachment 3283
Gardo,
You are welcome and it will be good to get some input on the bobber from you and others.
The bar diameter is 7/8". I think I will order some that are a little wider as the ones I had laying around the shop that I put on the bike are only 28 1/2".
Tell me if this engine in my Dong Fang (167FMM 229cc CG125 OHV)
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...h/IMG_0647.jpg
http://i182.photobucket.com/albums/x...h/IMG_0648.jpg
doesn't look like this engine
http://i01.i.aliimg.com/photo/v0/374...gine_400cc.jpg
http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/37...ine_400cc.html
which looks like a 400cc CG125 OHV
Waiting for a response from that site regarding EPA and sample price.
Maybe I can buy the top end?
Any help from our members in China would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Those engines do look similar. Have not seen the 400cc one in any of the motor shops in Guangzhou MC market. Thinking it might be one of the 4 speed jobs designed for ATV's and not motorcycles :confused1:.
Alibaba vendor usually means just a trading company. If Guangdong Yatian Industrial Co., Ltd. is such a powerhouse in the manufacturing world, you would think they might have a decent website and spec sheet to get some further info.
Cheers!

A few photos of my ride out to the ranch.

Man i do not tire of you posting pics about that bike
I was thinking of buying a few of these for all of my brothers and myself from scooterdepot. Did you're bike come with a actual title to register or just a MSO? I ask because I'm in NY and it is nearly impossible to register an off road vehicle with a MSO here without jumping through hoops for months, and even then it gets denied. I know all the sites say this bike is street legal but that doesn't mean a thing without a title in NY or a way to get one easily.
Barnone, thanks for the pix. Never enough.
Please get someone to shoot some video of you using that bobber to herd those cattle to their next feeding. Lasso in your clutch hand.
Better yet, video of you on the bobber herding last year's crop of 'gators to their next feeding!! :gun_bandana::gun_bandana:
Yeeehaw!
That really is a cool bike!
Is it genuinely a hard tail? I didn't know they were still allowed to make those (probably another fictitious rumor I heard about hard tails being outlawed).
And ditto - I agree those are entertaining pics! Thanks.
I bought mine from the Scooter Depot, i have to say i wasn't at all to impressed when with some of their staff. i did speak with one guy named Matt who said that they have shipped this bike to NJ/NY area. Now if its a title I cant tell you they spoke about the MSO. Give them a call or try county imports. Due to the videos I found on youtube, I've shared emails with these guys after I bought the bike and they will be posting one of the DF250RTB. It couldn't hurt to reach out to them and ask as well.
One more day and my bike should be here 28hrs and counting
