Some shots of some nearby local areas.
This thing is pretty tall. I'm 6'5" (1.95m) and it really fits me perfectly. Shorter statured folks aren't as lucky :cryfiddle:

I was crawling through some rural villages and stopped for a drink and every single kid/man wanted to have a try sitting on it, even that dumpy guy in the background. He tried but could not swing his leg over the seat :icon10:
I wasn't doing any serious riding so I don't have all of the protective gear I should be wearing, but one thing I definitely wished I would have had the first day was sunscreen.

nice ride pope good to see you got there in the end i wont ask if you got a DL but just be carefull and ride safe a lot of the chinese guy have the same bike at our club who are short as well and the way the guys swing on is leave the stand down and use the foot peg to help to swing the leg over when on top then flick the side stand up ......
good lookin bike there pope
those engines dont have a filter so dont skimp on the oil changes specially in summer
1000km is plenty long enough and a litre of oils just 30 kuai
looks like a good ride you had , hard to beat a new bike and new roads
I did 100 km, then I had my guy change and put in this, which I got for 190rmb at the GZ market

I then did another 350 km and had him change it again.

Unrelated: Commercial monkey show in China. This is what a drunk Russian substitute keyboardist does when the sound guys screw up the power supply. That's me just by his shoulder there, laughing my ass off the entire time while the audience just gazed in confusion.:icon10:

Hey, Pope, it's not KDX, but it is nice bike. Congrats!
Can you please describe the process of ordering a bike with components that you asked for? Are they made it based on your ideas from scratch - that frame, this engine, suspension, plastic panels, wheels, lights, or it was easier?
It's pretty easy, actually. You can configure them how you want. I just told the guy over qq, but with the help of a Chinese friend. Choose the colors of your plastics, frame, wheels ,handlebar, etc. Then your tires, wheels sizes. There are several engine choices. Add any accessories from the store. Pretty simple stuff.
Bike has now logged nearly 5000 km. Shineray engine has been solid, but I've had to use loctite on almost all of the nuts and bolts, because stuff just rattles loose and falls off, i.e. I stooped to find my entire rear rack, lights, signals and license plate holder were gone after a stretch of rough road and hard riding. I did change out the plastics and put on some supermoto tires, which I should have done from the start. This thing is made for riding mildly off-road. It's best suited being a supermoto bike and the crappy roads that you have to slog through to get to the good stuff. This bike has been a good initial learning tool for me.
A few low-res photos.

Great thread and photos.
Im looking to get a bike with a nearly identical setup. Meaning...250cc engine and super moto style tires. I was happy to read that taobao is a legitimate place to make a purchase.
The only thing holding me back is that I dont know a motorcycle mechanic who can assemble the front end when its delivered...and i dont have the tools or ability to do it myself.
Although there is one taobao seller with a decent looking bike. He also has the customizable options..and he's located in my city, Chengdu. That would be nice, because he could assemble it at the time of sale. What do you think of this bike?

He seems to have sold a few...and has decent feedback.
Thanks again for the nice thread. Can't wait to start riding.
Man, I would seriously get your hands on some loctite 243 threadlocker. You can order it from Taobao, and it's a must for these bikes because things definitely will rattle loose and fall off. You also want to upgrade to the inverted forks and I would also upgrade the exhaust to the stainless steel one like I have that has the clamp instead of just bolting it to the frame. The weld on the first one that came with the bike was aluminum (could not be welded) and broke while I was about three hours from where I keep the bike and I had to ride it all the way back clearing a path and scaring the crap out of pedestrians due to it being so loud.
+1:thumbsup: 243 threadlocker is an absolute must on all Chinese bikes. In fact many of the better even China bikes come with every bolt threadlocked. In fact it should be illegal not to use it. Don't bother with 242, it's fine for bicycles but not enough for motorcycles on Chinese roads.
If you're struggling to find Loctite you can always use traditional threadlocker=grease!
Hi zhu
Most of the dick heads chinese mechanics should be abel to get the bike up and running ok it not very hard to do and you dont need to be brain surgeon to work it out thank god for that
so good luck
Well, I'm sure glad I found this site. After a few more hours of searching for places to buy a bike in Chengdu, I discovered that the site admin Crazy Carl also lives here in Chengdu and has a website that pointed me directly to Chengdu's LARGE motorcycle market (and in addition; where to get a license, where to buy gear and find a mechanic, etc). So thankfully I won't need to use Taobao after all. Awesome resource for anyone in the 'Du.
I'll be heading down to the Motorcycle Market on Wednesday...and i'll post updates. Thanks again to everyone.
The taobao bike in action with almost 10,000 km on it. The suspension is way too cheap and hard for this kind of action though. Thinking of swapping it out with X2 suspension.
:icon10:
Thanks. The lakeside photos were taken in Heyuan where there are some really awesome twisties. The beach photos were taken in Huidong, Huizhou; all in Guangdong province...Quote:
Not bad. Not bad at all. May I ask where you took the waterside pictures? Looks great :P
Another little vid I just uploaded to youtube that I made with my new Drift HD Ghost. The riding wasn't that great. It was six AM and I'd had about three hours of sleep, and, well, let's just say a "few" beers the previous night :eek2:
Alas, my trusty piece of junk is gone. I abandoned it in an alley after evading a police roadblock in Guangzhou. I can't resist riding it into the city so I decided maybe it was to just leave it. Here's some goofy shenanigans of me and my last recorded ride on YouTube.

Shit... so you just drive!
And here I am sitting worrying about plates for the last 4 months while friends ask me when the heck I'm getting a new bike.
New year is soon here...:riding::goodtime:
Were I you I probably would not have abandoned it... One can usually talk one's way out of trouble here as long as you're not literally committing murder (or, while being video taped, driving your scooter with a pillion rider into 50 year old women while drunk and then screaming swear words at them in Chinese).
Traffic in your video does not look too bad. While I'm in a taxi here all I see is idiots everywhere. Maybe it's because I'm not driving though...
Well, I wouldn't exactly recommend it. I just kind of freaked out after playing chicken with a cop and a roadblock. I didn't abandon it 100%. I went back some hours later and it was gone. I am still in denial about it, but I'd secretly been wishing it would get stolen so I could move on from it after compiling weekly replacement parts lists on taobao throughout the life of the bike (and having the feeling in my heart that I was riding a piece of shit). That part of town is almost suburban, although technically downtown in Haizhu. Also, I usually didn't usually drive it around town in the middle of the day like that. I did that because I just got an urge to use my camera and do it. Oh, and if you watched the video, the Boyz II Men song is kind of a cheesy joke. I just though it fit. Not my everyday jams (not that there's anything wrong with that :icon10:)
Approximately two month wait on an X2, I was told today. Needless to say, I'm freaking out right now with no toy to play with except my scooter, which is only used for short trips to the store (and occasional wheelies off speed bumps). What to do next is anyone's guess.
