Re: How to get a Chinese Motorcycle License
Aparantly also there are about 300 new questions on the exam. This is since 2015, added to the 2013 question base. So it says in the iphone app "driving in China". And this app apparantly has these questions included now (for a total of 1300 questions to study). For those without an iphone (this app is not available on android) the online version ffom the developers website is at http://beebright.biz/en/products/chi...riving-license. It has the same questions as the iphone app. But as far as I can see the iphopne app is better because you can save your wrong answers as "favourites" for later review. I haven't found a way to do that on the online web version.

Re: How to get a Chinese Motorcycle License
Well the saga continues. I went back to the "Foriegn office of Beijing Motor Vehicle Administration" yesterday to present all my paperwork. First of all I am glad they have a "Foreign office" here as where I am supposed to go, based on where I live (ZhangJiaKou Hebei), there are no foreigners and it would be a real challenge finding someone who would know how to deal with me. Besides, It is hard to get to JhangJiaKou from here so even though it is our administrating city, everyone here means Beijing when talking about going to the city. Even so, for me to get to the Beijing Motor Vehicle office it is a 25 minute taxi ride to Yanqing, 1-1/2 hour train to Beijing North Station, 1 Hour Subway trip to ChengShouSi station, then 15 minute bus to the Traffic Management building. Including transfer times, its allmost 4 hours each way.
Anyway I got there and presented my paperwork and they did not like my Temporary Residence Permit from the hotel. Now I already knew from Max Power's post (#139 in this thread) that it might be an issue. They showed me a sample of what's needed (which looked the same as what I gave them) and they said mine was diferent because stamped by the Hotel - they need one stamped by the police. I tried to tell them it was the same thing, the Hotel has Public safety Bureau authority to issue these forms. But they would have non of it.
At least they said they would take all my other paperwork, and book a test date for me and if I brought acceptable residency paperwork with me on test day T'd be good to go, otherwise they cancel my test. So I paid my 50 quai for test Scheduling and grabbed their phone number so I'd have a contact to give to the local police station.
Meanwhile, today, I took a Chinese friend with me to the Police station, They sent us to the Imigration office. They sent us to a different Police station. They sent us to the third floor - getting closer! Well This police agent said pretty much the same thing as what the Guilin police said to Max Power - They can't issue another recidency form because it is already legally issued by the hotel. Finally after a few phone calls and some discussion, he put a note on the Hotel issued document saying it is all true, signed his name, listed his phone number, and put the police stamp on it.
So when I go back to Beijing for the test one week from today, I will arrive early (the office opens one hour before my test begins) which will give them time to call the local county police if they need to in order to finally accept this form.
By the way I've been studying with the "Drive in China" iphone app. It is great. I'm completely confident that I'll be ready to pass the test after prepping with this app. Thanks to my wife for buying a new iphone6 last month I now have her old iphone 4 to use as test prep machine. This app does a descent job of remembering yor wrong answers to focus on training. That combined with the ability to add the wrong answers to "favourites" means that I can practice just my favourites list if I want and skip all the questions about "in ___ situation do you slow down and give way or honk and speed up"

That should work and if it dont i would kick up hell big time BUT TIC ?? well done keep at it and you will get to the end , took me 3 years to sort out but at the end it just a great feeling to be legal .
just 1 more point IF you only get 88/89 out 100 and you need 90 ask if you can take it again that day? most will let you if not need to go back the next day.
My scores was
1.88 took agian the same day got 86 shit
2. 84 shit
3. The nice 90 good to go
Took me 4 times at the test but got that far was not going to give up.
Wish you luck

Re: How to get a Chinese Motorcycle License
92% made it.
I got there 45 minutes before the test and gave them my hotel residency paper signed and stamped by the police. 4 of them huddled around this piece of paper discussing it. Finally one of them handed it back to me along with the piece of paper allowing me to take the test. No problem.
Now I just wait for EMS to deliver the license. Too far to go to pick it up myself.

Re: How to get a Chinese Motorcycle License
congradulations!!! You gave them a photo to put on your license? wow only a hotel residency paper!!!
did you have questions about medical care in case of accident?

Re: How to get a Chinese Motorcycle License
Now, I'm looking for a thread on what's Involved on buying and transferring ownership/registration/plates of a used Moto. I saw something about it a while back but can't find it now. Can anyone point me there or shall I start a new thread?
Edit: i have since found some threads and decided i'd best start a new one since i have a specific situation (whether to register in Beijing or Hebei)

I gave them 3 photos
Yes, hotel residency form. But I entered the address of where I actually live on the application form. So that's the address that'll show on my license. I used the Beijing version of my address which technically isn't legal but it's what everyone else here uses for delivery address. It's weird - a gated community with front gate in Beijing City and back gate in Hebei provinc. Legally we are administered by Hebei, but closest town is Beijing side.
No questions about medical care in case of accident.

Re: How to get a Chinese Motorcycle License
Correction to what I said above: They did not issue my license with the address I entered in the application form. Instead they it was issued with the address of the hotel on my temporary residence permit.
So, it seems that (in Beijing at least) they just ignore what you enter as your address in the "mailing address" field of the application form.

All I managed to get is a Chinese provisional license - valid for the length of stay on my visa 60 days

So if ones visa was for 1 year would the DL be valid for 1 year as well ?

Should do but then you could also hold a license
It's intended for short term visas etc

Re: How to get a Chinese Motorcycle License
Since the information on Licensing (and a variety of other issues) is constantly changing I started a chinamoto wiki at Wikia to hopefully provide a place where the current state of things can be easily shown & hopefully kept up to date with useful links.
I just knocked this out this morning and know it needs more information & corrections.

Please feel free to correct, update and improve.

Unfortunately they will not accept expired lic so you will have to do the driving test as well as computer. the worst part is that you will probably have to get a driving coach to be allowed to take the driving test. Easier to go back to your home counrty and reinstate your lic

Thanks man, i will check it out, and add to it if i can.
I haven't done the test from scratch, but i will be studying for it soon. I intend to help a friend get it.
I wrote a guide a while ago with some helpful information from Galen about how to do the change over, and posted a few of the needed forms on this chat group, but i'm hoping to go through the process and write another guide for the 'starting from scratch' point.
* I already have my chinese license by the way- big thank you to Galen, and the guys from this group for all the advice they provide
If there's anything i can provide, let me know.

But so you don't need to take a test at all? not even the computer test?
I didn't even know the provisional license exists.
Can you post some more information about that?
(i imagine you show your foreign license, do the translation, provide the medical test certificate, photos, residency permit and passport...fill in the form and then just hand it in?
Or is there more to it than that?
Because i have a Canadian friend for which that would really help him out. Otherwise we have to organise other ways for him to ride. ...or i get petrol for him.

Re: How to get a Chinese Motorcycle License
Guys, for the provisional license, i found this online.
It helps if you're searching for the right things... i didn't even know there was such thing as a provisional license until yesterday
http://motorhome-china.com/report_dl.html
I have a Canadian friend who has his Canadian motorbike license, perhaps we can try this weekend or next and we'll let you all know who it goes
For the above link, it looks ike they have all the facilities at hte Airport (T3) Beijing, and its seems fairly simple.
Kepp you guys updated

How does this help long term people who live in China and you will find the DL is only valid for the Beijing area ... and only valid for the term of your visa and I am sure this has been posted before on MCM but i am not going to check.

Interesting and would the Chinese provisional license cover all over China or just the city/province you obtained it in.
Can you remember the process and the office you obtained the paper work from.

Re: How to get a Chinese Motorcycle License
Was reading some old post on this thread and was interested to read post about motorbike licence holders need to take a medical test at the age of 60 years old resulting in your licences being revoked if you dint pass the test.
Good news as of January 2016 this age limit has been increased to 71 years old seems a odd age to increase it to 70 would of been the logical age.
But then again we do live in a LOGIC FREE ZONE

Re: How to get a Chinese Motorcycle License
Finally got my licence!
and to answer my own question, yes you can get a licence on a tourist visa. I had a 6 month visa with a 90 day stay.
besides this thread, these two guides were the most helpful
https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/guide...-victor-nugter
http://www.shanghaihalfpat.com/conve...iving-license/
I used the $5 "China Driving test" iphone app. it covered about 90% of the test. the questions i still got stumped on were questions regarding those green highway signs, police hand traffic signals, fog light signals and designated motorcycle parking triangles or something.
to book an english test requires 6 business days wait. and you can retake the test immediately if you fail the first time. only 2 attempts per day is allowed though.

now, does anyone know how i can get an affordable number plate on a tourist visa? :deal:

The age increase actually was from 61, the original age where medical was required.. So they increases by 10 years exactly.
But the lack of loggic continues in a country that is supposedly respects older age is quick to say you are too old to be trusted driving.
Also. The medical check as I have seen it only involves a photo with arms crossed and fingers extended...as if to say see I have ten fingers. While I was watching this I noticed the eye chart behind the examiner... But he never asked anyone to read the chart. Then they paid the nurse 13rmb.
The age thing in China is confusing as many consider they are one year older after the new year even if their birthday isn't until December

If you are Chinese and drive you don't understand that you have to...
1. Shoulder check before you pull away.
2. Signal before you pull away and on intersections.
3. Check your mirrors before you pull away.
4. That some roads are smaller than others and on those smaller roads you must stop or yield when you meet a bigger one.
5. Drive on the right hand side of the road.
Not knowing this means simply that you cannot drive in the international understanding of what driving is. Which ever Chinese person or people wrote the driving laws did it half baked without fully understanding the driving system from South Korea, Russia or the United States they were trying to copy. Just like Chinese sweet 'bread', you can't know how to bake bread from looking at photo and guessing, you just need the fucking recipe.

I'm still alive accident free due to a lot of experience! Maybe luck has something to do with it too. But logic...... No way they don't manufacture that here

Thank you prince666. I've read many hours and many threads looking for this info about license for 61-71 year old people. I was ready to give up on riding China. Could you tell me where you got that official information? I am coming from the USA and want to ride about 2 months through China next year. I've read many conflicting threads about what's needed. I'm surprised I haven't found 1 complete thread concerning temporary DL's in China. And I've seen things change fast and often in China and it's provinces.
