Nice size to ride around here in the mountains. So there is no more new DF250RTBs available? Every place I looked was sold out. I wonder if it was a problem meeting EPA. Still waiting for the Genuine 400cc to be available in the USA. Miss my DF250RTB some.
I sold my green 2016 RTA a few months ago and really miss it. My wallet and wife said I did not need two bikes. Since then, I've had a V-Star 650 and now a VTX1300. I did tons of research on what other engines could more easily go in the DF frame. What I started to focus was a Honda 400EX ATV engine. The geometry is similar to the 250 China engine and there are lots of performance parts. A little exhaust header work would need to be done.
Seriously thinking of building a Shadow 600 bobber, but if anyone in the Midwest (I live in MO) wants to sell an DF250RTA (Springer front) shoot me a message.***

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
hey all, got 27,650 miles on her now. at least since the speedometer drive gear broke. About two of three monthd ago. so maybe add a grand to that...Got a new one. Was ready to install... saw my frame was cracked.. not just cracked but broke in two places. I figured it was a hardcore pot hole I hit yesterday , gonna see what I can do about it. will set up pictures as I can. Overall she is still strong and still rocks the road. If i cannot fix her, I will be hunting another one. seen a few sites have them in stock. fingers crossed I can get another one. No fingers crossed I can fix my China Girl.

Be careful and verify that those dealers have them in stock. The bobbers are not currently being imported from my understanding.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
The last time I looked at the EPA/DOT site (updated this month with the 2018 li, it shows a line across the spreadsheet for Dongfang, and several models of their bike listed for their 223cc engine. Keep in mind that not all the bikes end up here, but they would be legal. The last certification was for 2018, as the 2019 models are being certified and showing up on the database as well, and it still lists the following models for DF: DF250RTA, DF250RTB, DF250RTC, DF250RTD, DF250RTE, DF250RTF, DF250RTR, DF250RTS). Zongshen is still their engine's OEM.
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
culcune ,
So the 223CC engine is a Zongshen 165fmm?
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I don't know what engine model they use; I have only seen the manufacturer listed as 'Chongqing Zongshen Motorcycle Engine Manufacture Co., Ltd.' I am guessing it is Dongfang's proprietary engine specific to several models they manufacture and import here. It does state 223cc as the size, but it does not get into engine model number, only technical details. The model bikes listed are 'DF250RTA, DF250RTB, DF250RTC, DF250RTD, DF250RTE, DF250RTF, DF250RTR, DF250RTS' but that does not mean all of them will be coming, only certified. I am fairly certain they are continuing the same engine they had when you had your bobber; companies tend to keep renewing their certificate year after year. TMEC, Dongfang, CSC, and Bashan, as far as big bikes go (as opposed to seemingly dozens of scooter manufacturers) keep renewing the same bikes.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
My long gone 2012 DF250RTB had the 167FMM engine 229cc pushrod engine.
I believe the newer DF250RTB had the 165FMM 223cc overhead cam engine.
The DF250RTG had the 165FMM engine 223cc overhead cam engine. It has a little more power than the 167FMM.
11.5 vs 12.0

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Looks like the DF250RTB is NOT back. With the 229 CC engine.
http://www.saferwholesale.com/250cc-...LT4crGQFUfuv0E
"That model is currently out of stock!"
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I tend to take things that Saferwholesale does with a grain of salt. These might just be leftovers from Dong Fang. As far as the DF certificate goes, like I mentioned, the bobber is still listed as one of the EPA certified models (as are several others we may or may not get in the US), so there is still hope for it, as it is still certified. But the only way to find out for sure would be a call to DF headquarters.
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I asked Safer what year is the DF250RTB and they replied "That model is currently out of stock!":lol8:

Well I am back as Dong Fang owner. This time it is a DF250RTG.
I ordered a black one from
https://www.belmontebikes.com/collec...13650188468290
Will report back after I get her put together and ride her a bit.
Since she is kinda like my long gone 2012 DF250RTB I thought I would just post my experience here.
It has the 165FMM engine instead of the 167FMM.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Hi Guys, sorry to hijack the thread, it's my first post on this site and I couldn't find the option to create my own thread.
I'm just after some general info on the difference between Zongshens 250 CB engines, the models are ZS165ffm , ZS169ffm & ZS172ffm.
What are the differences in terms of which engine is better, power output differences, any other info if you have it, I'm looking for the better engine of the bunch and would like some generalised advice, thank you.

You might be better off asking about the engines at www.chinariders.net as it seems to be more active there.
I have experience with the 167fmm engine but none of the ones you asked about.

Doesn't seem to be any activity here so I will post my experience with my DF250RTG on http://www.chinariders.net

Hey, I got myself in here to let all of you know that my twin brother, Chruk Bashre is no longer with us. And he has been gone now for almost two years. It wasn't easy for him, he was not well.
Now, besides all of that, I got all his stuff. Music stuff, lots of. Motorcycle stuff, lots of. So who wants it.?
Mainly the DF250RTB(2010). As I surf across this thread, i see peeps looking for a bobber. THIS ONE IS FOR SALE.
I don't want it. But if i have to keep it, at least it don't suck. It's a cool bike. I saw it when it was first bought, like five years ago or more, and now, it just aint the same machine. Way better. So anyway, WHO WANTS IT? Speak up. $2500 seems fair to me.

Sorry for your loss. Your pics didn't come through. These bikes in good used running condition sell under $1500. A lot of them sell under $1000. I would keep it for an around town bike.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Get one from 2010. not so easy. Plus i have seen the 'good' condition bikes. That 1000 dollars is a rip. So in any case, the tires on this one do not leak, nor does the gas tank, carb, or oil bolts. That's worth a 1000 right there to some of the sufferers I have read about in here. also no rust

I fully understand as I have witnessed first hand what a major let down buying this motorcycle is. And to anyone who has bought a new one, 300 dollars for a used one is too much. Let the new guy decide, or, the guy who knows he can get 20000 miles out of one decide. I have ridden this bike and its more like a 'motorcycle' than it was. But that's only me. I jump on my shadow phantom for pleasure,

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Hey how 'bout that. A brand new df250rtb for 2100bucks (2300 ship, tax amount unclear). So the price is climbing past 2099 fast. But that's OK, its brand new. I am going to consider myself an owner (which I am) with a fair knowledge gained of the df from a crazy long thread, a mountain of notes, and personal one on one conversations about it over the phone. Plus I ride it around and make adjustments as needed, so I am familiar with it up close too.
Now, about the new one I was directed towards for $2099...(bigboytoys)
The year is not quite clear, or is it. I can sometimes read something 5 times before I see it all. So is the year printed in the ad? Looks to me to be pre 2010 by all the chrome stuff (vs blacked out).
Other indicators, to me, would be the welded in the middle handlebars(hid in the photo by the speedo), 45tooth sprocket, that tank is going to leak(3.8 gal?), pro st softail frame?, 75mph(same bull ad, with add on), and if that awful chrome is the stuff that rusts in no time(in here somewhere, by a couple of guys)I think that problem(model) was also attached with leaky tires.
So that is my observation and opinion. I am not trying to start a worth and value debate. After all, I got mine the easy way, all fixed up and handed to me. If any new riders think they want to buy the one in the bigboytoys ad, I will gladly sell this one for the same price just to be a brother rider, and save somebody a lot of headaches with mods and updates, because no one deserves to get stuck with that motorcycle, not even new, for 2099(2999 ship)or, in the round off world,(2100,2300ship). Now that there is a bike that should go for $1000, really, price, ship, tax, fully assem, delivered to the inside of your garage, complete total, $1000...

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
The more I sit around looking at my df, the more I can imagine the rear wheel and tire tore off and put on my phantom for a front tire.
The bolt and disc and hub width measurements seem to be right. That would be a 120/90-17 (phntm frnt) to a 140/70-18 (df rear) tire size. I can see it. And it looks cool.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
just picked up a DF250RTG for my wife at rock bottom pricing.
Im hoping its small enough for a 100lb gal to handle.
Thing is I was just goofing around placed one in my cart, filled out the shipping info, then forgot about it.
Not too long after someone texted me asking if i had any questions...
After brief negotiations I reached my hand down between the couch cushions and placed the order.
I know as well as most the marginal quality of these things, but didnt count on the fact i could get myself one for under $1500 all in.
now to get her to ride it...
Update:
Just got a call from Belmont bikes, said that the stated shipping company won't be shipping the item after all so could only get it dropped off 250 miles away.
They then proceeded to asked more money for shipping... I decided to cancel, will be moving to TX in the spring, along with 3 cars and 3 other bikes Id rather not carry another bike with me anyway.
I'm out
