Any factory painted exhaust should have been powder-coated. As I have heard quality issues with the YBR125 there is likely an issue with either the quality of the steel being used is questionable or the quality of the powder-coating. There are all sorts of ways of dealing with a rust problems.

I may have already stated this in other words but I'd like to make another statement about it:
Most of the exhaust pipe is unweathered. It's only the front end, closest to the engine. It must be the heat from the engine that causes the problem (loss of the rust protective powder-coating?).

I came back yesterday after spending 10 days in Vietnam, man they're crazier than us over there, everyone powering through the streets of Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi with their cubs...
I went to my dealer today, finally saw my YBR 250, and went with their mechanic to do all the process to sell the Honda & transfer the plates to the Yamaha. It was rather easy I'd say thanks to the Honda mechanic, but it's a crazy process...
I'm leaving China tomorrow yet again, and everything should be ready (bike with plates, blue & green books) when I come back on Sunday Oct. 16th.
Only problem was that the bike was dropped at the shop before I came to see it, a good dent on the tank. The boss assured me he already ordered a new one to be fitted before I come back next Sunday. Needless to say, I thoroughly inspected the bike for other marks, but everything seem ok.
About the rust, I'll take extra precaution at this and try to keep it dry as much as possible. I never pressure-wash any vehicle, only sponge and water. It also allows you to check all your bike for problems or loose stuff.
So, if everything goes according to the plan, I should join you guys in the YBR 250 club next Sunday !

The evil rust is starting to appear on my exhaust too... Needless to say I was told it's my fault as apparently word has spread that I ride to fast thus overheating it, (where did they get this strange idea??? BR:riding::riding::riding:M ).
Anyway, this is clearly a poor quality paint they used on the exhaust, or something that is enough for 125 heat, but can't cope with the higher temperatures a 250 expel.
Solutions anyone? I read people suggest to clean with fine sandpaper, but what then?
I just installed a pair of Bosch horns bought on taobao, it's very easy and the supplier also sells the cable for the connection directly to the battery (sounds louder), it's very satisfying now to blast the occasional distract drivers. I strongly suggest this 130 Rmb upgrade, it's worth every penny and easy; the YBR is equipped already with the holes in the right place of the chassis to do this.
After scrubbing the exhaust, we need to re-coat it with some high-quality, high-temperature resistant paint but I'm the last one who's gonna know where to get that.
Do you have any link for those BOSCH horns? I can't type much Chinese and Taobao doesn't get along too well with my English.
I was reading around on the internet and apparently BBQ paint is a cheap way to protect those headers. Other high temperature paints don't work as well as they should. There is a professional ceramic painting technique, but can't be done at home, and the likely hood is that most companies in China will be as bad or worse than Jianshe Yamaha.
Krylon is the brand name to remember. I think one of your colleagues is visiting the USA and could bring you back some!

I know a place where they could get this paint job done, as for my work I sometimes need to apply teflon coating on some machine parts. This paint shop is specialized in teflon coating, I could take the exhaust apart and send there to apply teflon on it, what you guys think?Quote:

As for this Krylon product it's most probably flammable, I think it's not possible to bring this even as checked baggage.

It is typically used for hot waste gas pipes of fire places etc. I used it suitable for exhaust pipes on dirt bikes in the past. I am sure you will find similiar stuff.
