Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
This Mod is inexpensive and really trims off the Faux Oil tank nice. If you’re into the matt black stuff paint these pieces or a few touches of chrome really offset the black also. Either way it will accomplish 2 things. A cover for the cheap looking hose clamp on the tank on one side and will finish off the wire bezel opening on the chain side. It will also make the reflector look custom and smooth, leaving just a touch of 1/8” wide ring of reflector material for safety or for painting
1 Go to Walmart and get a pair if these blind spot mirror/ see pict
2 Pry out 2 layers the black plastic disks in the back of each one using a thin flat blade screwdriver. Be careful to not scratch the backing off the back side of the mirrors, as the outside is tough and wont scratch but the inner part is delicate.
3 The mirror disc will fall away from the chrome bezel, repeat on the other one.
4 You will be using both the 2 bezels and the 2 round convex mirrors /set aside the mirrors for now.
5 Take a side cutters and cut and remove a ¾” wide piece from the skinny section of the bezel so it’s like a open ring
6 On the exhaust side of the bike slip a bezel thru the wires and slip it in place over the hose clamp. It practically snaps in place and looks like it was made for the bike.
7 The bezel for the chain side needs another slight modification. Grab a lighter and gloves and a 2 inch surface of the inside of the chrome bezel keeping the lighter moving to just heat and barely soften the ring at the wide end, about a 6 sec shot of heat. Then bend it right away so the ¾ open gap is almost gone.
After it cools Stretch it over the one wire and test install it. If tight enough your almost done.
I just used a small piece of Scotch brand outdoor mounting tape with the red peel off coating to secure it so it will never rotate.
8 Put the same mounting tape to the back of the round mirrors covering the entire surface almost to the edge and then peel off the red backing/clean your reflectors and then line up the chrome disk In the middle of the reflector and press. You now have a oil tank that looks great while your trying to get around for a major tank swap out or you might just like it enough to be satisfied with the factory one now.
One could also black out the edge of the reflector before installing the chrome disks. Here are some picts/they really don’t do the look justice. These are very factory looking cheap mods.
These bikes are really all about the illusion they are either a very expensive restored antique bike or they are a custom bobber, either way you win. Finishing custom touches really make the bike more of both.
Thanks for the great tip on getting chrome or polished metric bolts Skullworkz. A skull Oil tank would be pretty crazy. Looking forward to seeing your steel seat when done. It will be very mean looking for sure.

Attachment 9527Attachment 9528Here is another super fast mod for the plastic rear brake resevoir. Get a Spectre billet oil cap
and pry out the plastic part and just keep the Billet chrome. Put industrial strength Velcro on the inside of the metal cap even on the sides. Then line the original plastic cap with velcro on the sides and top. Press the Chrome on the original cap and its done. Here is a Picture. You could JB weld it on also I guess but like the option of removing without damage.
Since I cant ride - I Mod

Attachment 9550Attachment 9551Attachment 9552Goodbar: Finished the crankcase breather mount tonight. Used the bicycle fender mount round stock, heated it up with some map gas and bent it to fit where I wanted. Rattle canned it black and installed a longer bolt with wider washer (gonna tweak this a bit and decrease the I.D of the fixing eyelet). Kind of angled it down just in case it needed to drain and noticed there is some condensation in the glass filter. I may add a small bag of Silica gel to the inside of the breather cap to try and control this issue. I would imagine this is also going on inside your filter as well but you just cant see it due to it being solid and not glass like mine. We just got alot of snow so I wont be riding any time soon. Just waiting on parts to arrive at this point.
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Working on a new fake oil tank. Going to do some shopping around tomorrow and see what I can come up with.
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
A coffee canister would work it is about the right size and has a lid that can be sealed. They sell aluminum ones . Buy a set for the wife and one will turn up missing. Just a thought. Who knows what's going on in my filter, prob the same. Don t think its a problem like you said, to small of amount. Yeh I heard you are getting buried, only 4 months till spring. A buddy of mine is getting his df250 rtb Today, he loved my bike so he had to have one. His is flat black.
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Yeah, I've been tossing around the stainless steel coffee canister idea for a few days now for the new fake tank. Gonna head up to Bed Bath and Beyond here in a few and stop off and pick up some nicer hose clamps as well. Started thinking and I'm going to remake the mount, I'm not completely happy with it. I've got some more round stock to make it a little nicer. Will post pics when I'm finished

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
OK, V2.0 on the bracket! While I was out "shopping around" I stopped at Pep Boys and picked up that billet oil cap you used and mounted it to the top of the brake reservior using some JB weld. I however used the rubber that was supplied as the plug and carefully used a razor to cut a circle out the size of the cap (it's about the same size as the middle ring) to give it a nice clean black edge. Also found some pipe wrap there for $23 and did the pipe. That pipe was melting everything that touched it so I figure this is a must do in order to keep it clean looking and not have a bunch of melted clothing. While wrapping the pipe I discovered you CAN NOT do it in one piece! Do to the two different diameters of pipe you cant get a clean wrap so I had to splice and use 4 clamps. I think it turned out nice. And, the crankcase bracket I think is better than before, a little cleaner and more to the point.
