I thought about this as well, but liked the idea of having a filter attached to the end of it so I does not suck crap into the crankcase. Also will keep insects out and give you the heads up with the visual inspection of the glass filter.

It is the only single wire to single wire connection underneath the tank. For some reason as you rev the engine the voltage actually drops from the dark green wire. SOLUTION: Disconnect the wires, cap the green wire and connect the blue wire with white stripe to one of the black wires which are usually a constant 12V (backwards from the black ground we are used to). Now the headlight comes on with the ignition switch and the headlight gets brighter with the engine RPM's and maintains a constant brightness. Also happy to report that there has been no battery problems wiring the headlight that way.
Hey Babyswiss, seeing that you have already had the tank off and messed with the headlight I have a question. How many wires run to the headlight in total? 3 or 5? I am asking this because I am going to order a new headlight this afternoon and dont want to take the tank off until I am ready to install it and fix the wiring. I am looking at this light http://www.ebay.com/itm/Round-4-Head...404702&vxp=mtr

Blows, sucks, whatever, in my life that definition is hazy. Either way I like the idea of having it terminated so nothing foreign is getting into my engine.

Skullworkz, sorry I don't remember how many wires, I think there are 3.
