I did manage to find a decent pressure gauge -- in the little auto parts section at Carrefour, the French supermarket chain.
Actually, it's always surprising how difficult it is to find simple stuff here in China that ubiquitous in America and certainly made in China. Retail in China is still in its infancy.

as a local chinese guy i suffer the same thing, as not many people have other hobbies except gambling and massage.
