Always ready to get on dirt! Already have my F650GS out today, my first day back at the grind. The first mile from my driveway to the highway is dirt, so I ride it every day. OK, that's splitting hairs I guess. . .

Unfortunately, Yuan didn't get to ride in the hack while I was there. She was too busy. Evey time we go back to China her old company enlists her to talk to some government official or other to help them win contracts.

She's ridden in my Ural hack already however. She seems to enjoy it, but pretty quickly falls asleep. Oh, well.

:lol8: Falling asleep eh? Looks like we definitely have something in common then. I have no idea how they can fall asleep on the back of a bike but I guess anything is possible. If a person could make money from sleeping everyone in China would be filthy rich. :thumbsup:

it was great meeting you in Beijing , and taking a little spin
as you can see , we do enjoy some nice canyon riding here
I was out on the Yamaha R-1 last weekend, and the decreasing radii turns were way easier , without the "outrigger"

Hey Dan,

Looks like you enjoyed the same "red-carpet" treatment I received while visiting Beijing. I really enjoyed your report and pictures, the three wheel perspective is something I have to try one of these days.

Hacking is definitely a different animal, but a blast just the same. And if you're into camping, you can literally bring the kitchen sink along with you.

I've seen your ride reports for down Guangdong way. I've got them squirreled away for future reference. We've got an apartment in PanYu and sometimes stay there, so I hope to repeat some of your rides next time I'm out that way.

Could you refer me to someone who can organize a sale/rental of a motorcycle and directions/guide/tour for a first time trip to China.
I am just starting my research, it sounds like Shanghai to Yunan could
be a great trip.

Ahh, Tahoma, I miss thee. In a past life, I lived in Tacoma. Summited Rainier twice. . . Beautiful area.

Anyway, I don't know many folks in Shanghai that fit your bill. If you're interested in riding a hack, Winston Sa would be your man. He rents restored CJ's and leads guided tours out of Shanghai.

You might want to ask your question in the "Ride Prep and Making Tracks" forum. I got a lot of help from many folks on this web site and I'm sure some of the locals will have help for you.

Great post. I notice disk front brakes on most of the CJs and even on the BMW's w/ Earles forks. Is someone in China doing conversions, or selling the parts to convert?
