Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
Thank you for your help.
Another financial burdon has just come my way and now i cannot afford a regal at all. my limt has dropped to about 3-4,000rmb so im going to just buy a cheap bike that will break down after 4 months then see what state my finances are in. with any luck i will be able to buy a better bike then.
 good buy 250cc, hello 50cc  well maybe a 125 if i can push it a bit

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
Would you say that at that price range, the DD250G-2 is still the best value for money? Or would you say a YBR125 fuel injection would be a better choice? I guess it's power vs build quality. I still haven't seen the new shape YBR125. Is it identical to the YBR250? Saw that the other day and wish it was half the price
-
Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
YBR125 isn't fuel injected yet.
Maybe, if I were buying again I would take a serious look at Qingqi QM250-2D: http://www.qingqi.com.cn/uploadfile/...B%E5%9B%BE.jpg
Not sure on price for this one though, although it would have mostly Suzuki technology. Of course I'd still prefer a twin.
DD250G-2 is good value, but it has serious issues with build quality especially the exhaust system and speed/rev display console. If you lived in a city where parts and labor were cheap, knew extensive Chinese, and knew your way around a bike it would be a project bike that after some fixing and settling it might be an OK machine as mine is, however if you wanted to ride something 'out of the box' I'd go for something else.

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
According to the Yamaha website:
The YBR125 is a motorcycle with the power to take you where you want to go. Eager to please, this punchy 4-stroke will happily propel you around city streets with its smooth fuel injection and five-speed gearbox. It features a refined instrument panel, advanced muffler design, passenger grab bars and tank covers on the side for protection.
I have also confirmed this with my local dealer.
I'm more after a street bike for city riding and the occasional long ride on the weekends. Definitely be more of an out of the box kind of rider...

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
The YBR125 available in western countries is fuel injected, however that isn't made in China, it's made in Japan. Jianshe Yamaha China may have switched over/be switching over/will switch over to FI for their YBR125, just take a look in the dealers at the actual bikes in the showroom, fuel injector or carburetor? The 2009 bike was definitely carb. Also take a look at the Sundiro Honda CBF150 and CBX150.
-
Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
Good to know. How can you tell if the bike is fuel injected by looking at it? The dealer sent me some pics of the bike but it may be hard to tell without looking at the actual bike. If the fuel injected model is available, do you think this will make a big difference on performance? Will check out those other bikes also.
Thanks for your help.

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
The YBR125 has a carb in China. They were on display in the ChongQing motorcycle show and the only model shown was the one with a carb and the more modern headlight.

The one shown in your pictures definitely has a carb.

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
What should I be looking for to see if there is a carburetor? I have one dealer who assures me that he has one with the fuel injection.
-
Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
On the rear fairing, just under the seat (i think right side), you should read "Fuel Injected". I saw one fuel injected 125 YBR at the local Kunming dealer last year.

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
So a fuel injector will look something like this, except on the bike you will see some specifically electrical wires leading away and a few hoses.http://www.mbe-motorsports.com/catal...r_DH020M_6.jpg
A carb looks like this:
http://www.patternparts.net/images/ww/parts/221899.jpg
So the difference is: If you move the throttle grip, a throttle body on the carb will move if you have a carb. If you have FI then when you move the throttle grip nothing will move visibly. Also a fuel injector has electrical wires.
Also FI is so rare on Chinese motorcycles it will probably be written down the side of the bike!

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
Anyone have a more technical explanation? Printed words on a bit of fairing don't really cut it in China!

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
I think the photos ZMC posted should make it pretty clear. You will notice that a FI unit looks like a straight tube going into the motor and a carb has a big resevoir on the bottom that holds gas. If you don't understand those, feel free to send pics of the bike you are going to buy and we will verify the FI for you. Again, the pics you posted before are not FI as you can clearly see the carb.
Here are some more pics showing FI vs Carburetor

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
That's perfect! Thanks a lot guys.

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
Now how much difference will the fuel injection make? Will there be a substantial difference in power? Possibly bringing it in line with a Chinese 250?!
-
Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
Btw, apologies ZMC, I didn't see your post when making my earlier comment.

We then put exhaust sealant on the connections and tightened the system properly until very tight. Seems as though the tighter the system the less vibrations there are. We did this at a professional exhaust service and replacement garage for cars and motorcycles. Avoid car only garages as they seem not to understand the needs of motorcycles and how to effectively seal systems.
Will post more pics when we have done further mods.
I forgot to mention, tighten all the bolts yourself with threadlock if you have it using a 13mm socket until very tight as Chinese rarely tighten things adequately as they are scared of shearing or threading bolts.
In another post: "I bought the bike knowing it wasn't perfect and have improved it so far by dampening down everywhere I can with pieces of rubber"
Hey.
I bought a RR DD250G-2 last week here in Shanghai (paid 13000 though, but I clearly didn't bargain hard enough).
I'm aware that it's a Chinese bike and I'd like to have it deteriorating as slow as possible.
So I was reading ur thread with special care, but since knowing near nothing about motorcycles (that RR's my 1st bike that ain't a moped) I was wondering if u could post pics of where u put those brass rings & rubber pads, someday when u got some time.
It would be highly appreciated.
I know a good moto mechanic here who could get it all done without giving me the laowai price, but my technical Chinese being quite poor some pics could make communication easier...
PS: I already have vibrations when front braking, after 300km. I guess I also should have this taken care of not too late...

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
Braillce, unbolt anything that isn't needed that might buzz or hum. After that get tools and tighten every bolt you can find, making special note of the bolts that hold the engine to the frame. Also have a look for anything 'not quite right' such as poorly installed clutch lever and a choke which isn't properly installed. Do supervise a good mechanic, do NOT leave any Chinese mechanic alone with your bike, they always under-tighten bolts and only use grease if you ask. Also you could remove the exhaust box underneath the bike and drill it out to get a more gases out of the bike.

Not likely, probably you gain 10% torque and power above a regular bike, and maybe save up to 10-20% in fuel consumption.

The real difference is going to altitudes +4000m .. if carburator, then bike will feel underpowered. It will still run though, take a look at this RR from advriders, a guy on a much less capable used Chinese bike kunming to Tibet and further to border.. China to Pakistan.. on a less than fuel injected bike :P

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
OK.
I went to my mechanic this week end and had him tighten all bolts, some were so loose (rear suspension to frame) he had to make 3 full turns...
Clutch lever was half way lost.
I'll go back for a special care on the engine to frame ones.
I think I'll wait the end of warranty to operate the exhaust box...
Thanks for advises.

That's unbelievable! I'd say you owe ZMC888 lunch and a cold adult beverage just for helping you keep your brand new bike from falling into a heap of new parts!
cheers

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
Beer, wine, champagne all OK with me!
Careful with the engine to frame bolts as when you tighten them the other side will spin, so it's a two man job.
-
Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
Jeesh! After reading this I think I'd better go to my mechanic and get everything tightened on my regal raptor. I only have 140km on it but it vibrates like crazy. Above 20kmph I can't see anything in the mirrors!
-
Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
Also check the head tube, first two mechanics told me my bike vibrates just because it's cheap, and that's it. Had the bike for 6 months and only yesterday got the steering tight. Cut down on the vibrations alot. This new mechanic that saw the problem also forgot to tighten bolts he just loosened!
20 km/h seems way too low for you to feel any vibrations.
-
Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
Where are you getting your work done? Is it in the same place where you bought it? The mechanic at the shops on Pubei ( the row of shops where they sell Regal Raptor, Suzuki, BMW, Benelli) was pretty good when I went to him. That level of vibration just sounds wrong.
-
Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
Sorry, it was my mistake. I checked again today. The vibrations start at 30-35kmph. Definitely going to get everything tightened tomorrow.
-
Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
Remember loctite on the treads or grease and use a socket wrench!
-
Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
Weird...
Everytime I start my DD250G-2 in the morning, and also after doing my 9h at work, it kills the engine when I pass the 1st gear for the 1st time and pushes the bike forward a little. After this it's ok, it seems to happen only if it didn't run for several hours.
Urs does that too?

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2
Is that a clutch problem? Slipping clutch? I'm not an expert - maybe someone can chime in. For me I find after I have ridden it, getting to neutral difficult. I just switched the foot board to a foot peg so I am going to see if this still happens. Not sure if it was the foot board inhibiting my shifting.
