Ok, understood. Have a good ride, stay safe.
Patience is a virtue I have difficulty maintaining as I was born short of it and have not improved. Add that to the cultural challenges of China being completely different and I think I can relate to where you are waiting on the bike. To be honest, mine was pretty good right out of the crate. Main problems I have had are trying to get work done on the bike locally. Pretty sure you are in better shape in Shanghai regrading that. Still, it is better the factory found any issue and fixed it there, believe me! Someday we will need to meet up for a JH600 rally for sure.
On another note of trials and tribulation, the local Nanjing government has proposed a complete ban on all motorcycles for 2014. I may have to move the factory!!!!
For the love of God, not another city!Quote:

on September 10 the Jinling evening news A3 version "City Endured Thoroughly about 2014 Ago Touches" an article already to cause the enormous dispute,
caused the dispute was this section “in front of 2014 young Olympics, limited in the good area the countryⅠCountryⅡThe standard diesel oil society vehicles and the fuel oil boost vehicle and the city motorcycle elimination finished.” In the understanding as if a little the different meanings, actually the motorcycle is the country 1 country 2 is eliminated, is eliminated all? I have related this article reporter, she also does not talk clearly, said she understood is endures thoroughly touches, but has not gone to be connected the department to try to prove, NND, such ascended, she added the title was not she, only then and so on the executive regulations came out.I also went to the newspaper office office to sue, but definitely could not have any result. Before also telephones Nanjing to hand over the administrative bureau the secretarial section, asked two police officers, do not talk clearly this matter.
At present, this so-called blue sky plan already was the official outgoing message, requests an audience Nanjing Z.F website http://site.nj.gov.cn/ck1.do?id=3440&site=njgov, definitely was unable to take back, did not know this did have the familiar legal friend, if were endures comprehensively touches, this kind affected the common people to live the big matter to need to hold the public hearing? (Although what this also doesn't have to use).
Anyway, Back to the JH600, so far so good except for issues created by me or my first so called mechanic. Good luck to you Shanghaifingers! You should enjoy the bike.
:pigsfly2:
Let me know how that works out for you, maybe you can give some advice on how motorcyclists can fight a pre-ordained law from an entity that rarely listens to "the people". Are there government connected factories involved in the fight, or just common everyday people trying to voice a common sense argument.
Cheers!
ChinaV
I think maybe you misinterpret my meaning of "We are fighting it as best we can here!"
Harbor no illusions that I am making any difference at all. The government will do as it sees fit. However a large local company, the Jincheng Corporation, is headquartered here and they definitely can call some shots as they will be adversely affected for sure if this ban goes through as they manufacture a lot of motorcycles. The government is not so quick to blow off one of its largest employers. I am optimistic that if any ban occurs, it will be in the center city or downtown area only. At least I can hope. The whole process has caused me to wait on opening a planned motorcycle shop on the side. That would have employed one more person but I will wait till the dust settles and see what finally falls out.
I just had a quick squiz through the cited city regulations, and the only reference to motorcycles I found was to phasing out all vehicles, including motorcycles, that do not meet the China III emissions standard that is being put into effect pretty much everywhere. As long as there is uniform enforcement this is not the same as a ban, though right now I'm guessing that 99.9% of all motorbikes on the street do not meet China III. Hence the loose use of the term "banning motorcycles" by the sloppy news reporter.
Aggie, I'm thinking your JH600 probably does meet that standard. But I seriously doubt that your CJ750 does!
cheers
The whole thing is idiotic. Any vehicle that runs on diesel has restrictions on it, yes dirty trucks do, but amongst the worlds most efficient diesel engines ever made are those made by VAG, in modern Audis and VWs in Europe. Also any vehicle with practicality is frowned on, what Australians call a ute or Americans a pickup are not allowed in cities.
Wouldn't it be easier to just ban everything except for black Buicks? Because it's clearly the people who drive them who are making the laws. :gun_bandana:
I just found the closest thing I thought substantiating a report on the news last week. The news stated total ban like Dalian and Guangzhou but I may have been lost in translation as I often am. I know the news reported that Jincheng was trying to steer things to make sure they were not adversely affected regarding future business. Your interpretation makes sense that they may have succeeded. I really did not have much time to dig deep into it. I am optimistic that Jincheng can keep things going but...........TIC so I am holding off on the shop for few months. If the ban hits my CJ, I will simply send it to the USA to retire in glory on a showroom floor with short parade trips to the local Texas pub. I could live with that. If it is total ban, I might cause an international incident for lack of approved legal stress relief!:taz::swords:
I need to remember you read as well as speak Chinese Mandarin!!!
Received Pfaelzer's first Engine skid plate with tool box and had it powder coated to more closely match my frame. It now seems the mounting holes do not match for my bike and Pfaelzer's. This is either because the two bikes are different or my team has made a mistake in the replacement of the original spacers as the powdercoat process gets up to 170 degrees C so we had to remove the origninal plastic spacers. I have both the original and the new ones and they are close but do have a difference in thickness of 0.5mm. I suspect this is the root cause of my trouble. We will try and get it sorted as soon as I figure a way to shave off the spacers with no access to a real machine shop. Anyway, a friend and I took the bikes out today and rode some. Not a total waste of the day.
Here you can see the powder coat looks good.
Attachment 2916Attachment 2917
Here is my original engine skid plate. Sorry for lousy picture but you can see the color of the frame and factory engine guard setup.
Attachment 2918
I found I had to jump start the JH600 due to cold weather and my lack of starting for over a month. While putzing around in the underground garage getting the cables situated I thought about how the factory setup I have has the key release seat remotely located so you do not have to remove the pannier to open the seat. It is a nice feature. I am not sure how you guys that have the standard bike with aftermarket panniers do this but I thought I would show a picture in case you might get an idea to do something similar for your bikes
Attachment 2919
In spite of my setback on the installation of the engine skid plate and tool box setup, the fact it was 2 degrees C outside, a day riding is still better than not riding.
Dear Aggie,
Nice post today. Glad you are out there freezing your butt off on the behalf of us softies.
About that seat release lock -- yes, it's definitely a hassle for me with my Tourfellas and the horizontal lock. How'd you make the lock turn north like that?
cheers!
It was cold but I needed the therapy:taz:
The Jialing factory actually has the setup bracket to turn the keyed seat lock release up. I am not sure if the cable length is the same as the standard setup on your bike or if the factory JH600 setup would work with your Tourfella bracket system but with you Chinese communication skills, you might make a phone call and see? It might accidentally be an easy bolt on process
That would be a nice accident indeed (certainly better than my last). I'll give them a call, and thanks again for the tip.
Wish I could get out for some therapy too. It's a gorgeous sunny day here in Shanghai, but all of 1C. (And my orthopedist would not be happy if I went out and tested my clavicle right now...)
cheers
Bad News and Good News from Nanjing.
We just moved into a new home and it was time to move the toys in the stable. As expected batteries were too weak to crank the toys up. 5 minutes of kicking the old Chang Jiang and we were off to the races. Things were looking OK. Then came the turn for the JH600. No kick starter and no battery jumpers available (it takes 3 hours to go to any store in this paradise) but I did have a setup I have used that goes from cigarette lighter to a rechargeable battery device that has proven track record with cars and bikes in the USA. You can see it at this link:
www.porta-jump.com
It is small and works great the times I have used it before.
Let me save others with Jialing JH600's a lot of trouble. DO NOT USE THIS ON JIALING JH600's! It seems the anti theft module REALLY does not like this. Things went like this:
- The bike fired up then promptly went completely dead.
- I changed out the blown fuse, went to the store and bought a set of proper battery cables
- I knew in my heart I had fried something else but hoped it was just a fuse.
- Next day went back to the old house and NOPE....we were dead.
Now for the good news.
- My wife has the number of the nearest factory guy to Nanjing, our hero, Mr Li, is only one hour train ride away in Anhui province
- He arrives 48 hours later exactly as he said he would
- It was scary to watch at first but the guy knew the bikes very well. I highly recommend him for those that find themselves in need of help
- He spends less than 1 hour finding the culprit. The anti theft module is fried.
- Attachment 3365
- Unfortunately, he does not have spare with him.
- Fortunately, this is China where the easy is impossible and the impossible is easy. He simply calls his buddy over in the next province. They put the module on a bus in Hefei at 2:45PM and we pick it up at the bus station at 5:00PM. We even had the bus driver's cell phone for status updates on estimated time of arrival!
- Since the bike is completely torn down to the frame, I look at the rear shock and remember I still have a new Wilbers with the remote adjustment that AW and Franki worked so hard to design. I figure what the hell, let's maybe exchange this while we are at this stage?????
- He happily agrees and we go by the house and pick up the new shock.
- One hour later
- Attachment 3366
- New Wilbers fits like a glove! Perfect! Unlike AW's, I had the advantage of the threaded hole so no special adjustments were required.
- Here is the new shock adjustment knob
- Attachment 3367
- Time to put this back together
Attachment 3369Attachment 3370
- And by 8:00PM, we are gold! The JH is running and delivered to the new home.
- My wife, Mr. Li and I are off to dinner. I owe both of them this week.
Attachment 3371
Special kudos to Jialing for supporting me long distance and especially Mr. Li! A truly great guy. As Is stated earlier, he is scary to watch but delivers.
Also a special thanks to AW and Franki! The rear shock was perfect fit thanks to AW's R&D and the ride is great as Franki had the shock preset for my fat arse of 127 kilos! Excellent ride. Really made a difference!
Great report TA. remarkable help and support! Mr. Li is gold.
Hey Aggie
Tx for the info!
Got me to thinking ... when my JH600 battery was dead a few weeks ago (post winter), I did a bike - bike jump with cables. JH started right up, but as soon as I removed the cables, the bike died ... strange, I thought. Jumped it again, same thing ... bike died as soon as I removed the cables. I also thought I smelled something burning, but attributed it to Beijing dust on my exhaust.
Then I bought the Mr Euph recommended battery charger, deep cycled the battery, and voila, the bike started and ran perfectly. Until I was out and about and after starting it once, running for a few seconds, the bike immediately went dead at idle (total loss of all electrical power). Hmmmm? I tried again, and it started fine and ran fine.
I'm wondering if maybe I also cooked (but perhaps only medium rare) my anti-theft module during my jump start? You've helped point me in a direction.
You and I have the same newer generation model. Not like those unfashionable "so-yesterday" guys (AW, Mr Euph & Frankie). We're hip! So, the newer gen models have the threaded shock mount?
You like the shock? Worth the price?
What I have been working on is the front suspension (a bit too spongy and a little too prone to brake-dive). I've been wondering if an extended spacer would provide enough static compression on the stock fork springs to stiffen up the front end, and maybe also increase the viscosity of the fork oil? Anyone care to comment?
Tx for the info!
Cheers
LJH,
When my anti theft module fried, it went completely dead and took the starter fuse out. Subsequent attempts to start with new fuse resulted in burning smell coming out from front of gas tank, throttle side. Similar to the smell of burning PCB and wires. If you smell this in the same area, I would be prepared to replace the module soon
The thread is in the bottom fork of the standard factory rear shock. If you go to Pfaelzers thread of My New JH600, you can see that the Wilbers replacement shock he used did not have this fork threaded. It required a nut. This led to clearance issues. (At least I think this was the root of his problems) Anyway, he stated they were working on an exact threaded replacement. This is what I bought thru Franki. It seems to be perfect fit. I will ride this weekend and confirm for sure but first test last night was very good. Expensive as hell but I think it was worth it. Especially since no real modifications were required by me to make it fit. HUGE difference for me int he ride so far. Course my 128 kilos pushes the limits of any bike including my R1200GSA back in Texas.
I also bought new front fork springs and oil with Franki's help but have not installed them yet. It is hard to work on the bikes in our basement common garage. Security guys were going nuts last night doing what we did but I had the excuse of a known dead ride and had the mechanic come from 100 miles away to fix it. I promised to tow it away before morning if we failed. After we handed out some cigarettes, we were given a chance to fix and were successful. I did not push my luck with oil going everywhere trying to replace the front fork springs last night. To be fair, if the garage was not monitored like this, I am totally convinced it would become a nasty disaster of chaos and shit. Parking spots are paid for dearly here so the property management takes care of them. I can only imagine what they cost in Beijing! We paid RMB150,000 for each spot when we moved in. I justify it by knowing I can sell them later. Anyway, Mr Li tells me the front forks come from Japan and they have few issues with them in the stock form. I will ride with the Wilbers rear only for now and see how the bike handles until I find a spot I can change the front out in a sane environment.
Yup, that was the smell ... damn, I guess I fried it.
OK, maybe I will splurge ... although I am a svelte 120 kilos, I better plan for the future.
It will be interesting to hear your review after you've installed them. By the way, what's with Franki? He seems to have disappeared? Is he in the USA right now touring around with my handy-dandy Beijing clothing supplier, Mr. Yu? (If you want VERY inexpensive riding clothing, but great quality - talk to him - Franki turned me on to that guy).
Franki is off living the life the rest of us dream to live! I still have not figured how he found a way to pay for it but hats off to him!
If your Mr. Yu has XXXFat and Tall USA size clothes and size 13.5 -14 US size boots, I would love to deal with him. I enjoy going to the Nanjing Golden Eagle mall and telling the shops that I will buy everything they have that fits me off their shelf at double their asking price. In almost 7 years, I have yet to lose! Great fun to see the looks on their faces when I try on the stuff they jsut know will fit and I look like 10 lbs of potatoes in a 5 pound bag. I even have difficulty in the USA buying my size gear. Does he have web site?
My Chinese friends call me Da Wei Da Ponzi
I agree - Franki works hard at promoting biking in China - a thankless job.
When Franki was up in Beijing last year, he took me over to Mr Yu's shop. Mr Yu runs a reputable shop with very high quality gear at unbeatable prices (he is supposed to be wholesale only). And yes, he sometimes gets XXX sizes and monster boots. We (foreigners) are starting to bug him, so I think he will carry more. Mr Yu is also active with the China Choppers motorcycle club.
His website is ...
http://home.51.com/rpmcn
If you see something you like, I can be your Beijing contact. I'm often at his shop. I think he also has a taobao shop, but I'm not sure.
By the way, he is selling his personal 2001 BMW R1150GS ... asking 58K, but said he'd sell it to me for 50K. I know the bike, it is a good one, and it is a good price. Here's his ad ...
http://bj.58.com/danche/4061414281857x.shtml
Also has his telephone number in the ad. But as he is away (in the USA), only his lovely wife is in the shop these days. Chinese language only.
Excellent! I will check out the website.
As for the GS, When you see him, ask him if he would be interested in trading for a 2010 JH600 Euro style plus some cash!
TA,
I would love to purchased a JH600 (Latest Model) can you please send me the website or any kind of information regarding purchasing of JH600. I've send two inquiries already to JIALING's website but up to this moment I don't received any info. Please help me.
Campboss,
I had my wife call the contact telephone number from their website and she talked directly to them. She is Chinese so it was not difficult for her. You might try calling direct from the Philippines?
(+8623)65193370、65193371
(+8623)65194103、65192772
I simply went to the website below for the above numbers.
