Every law is enforced in random fashion all over China, but the family planning people (Hubei province) gave my wife and I a lecture about baby making when we got married and they told us we were exempt from the OCP. I have also been told by other friends with multiple kids that it was never an issue for them. However, most foreigners chose to have their children adopt the foreigners nationality, so it may be different if you decide to stick your kid with being a Chinese national.

Yeah, our baby has Chinese citizenship so we're only entitled to one child.

Did 150km's today with the missus. We headed out on Huqinping Highway (lovely road for motorcycles btw) towards Zhujiazhou and Dianshan Lake. The bike ran really well, she got very hot but we stopped every hour or so to give her a breather. I've clocked over 800km's now so i'm about ready to take her in for the first service. I'll do another quick review after 1000km's.

Thanks of the pics. We who like photographs do not care of the subjective quality of them since it is interesting to see what can be seen on the photograph. That said, you have very good photographs.

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2N
impressions of the DD250G-2N after 1200km's.
The bike has improved noticably since it's first review at 400km's. It no longer splutters, finding neutral is no longer an issue, and the burning smell has gone. It also seems more perky and responsive than it did from new. The engine still gets hot and it still backfires but these issues haven't as yet affected the performance in any way. However, when stopping and starting in traffic the engine gets very hot very quickly, and i reckon when the Shanghai summer arrives overheating could become a real problem. At the moment i'm having to stop every hour or so in fear of the engine bursting into flames. Lol.
My biggest concern before buying this bike was the level of vibration. It seems that Regal Raptor listened to consumer concerns and took measures to eradicate the problem. The bike rides really smooth with minimal shakes, rattles and vibration. It's obviously still only 3 weeks old so time will tell, but i've done some serious riding on it and so far and it's holding up well.
After 3 weeks of riding i can also conclude that the bike is not fast. It has enough squirt around town, and cruises upto 95kmph but if i take it over 100km's then the bike isn't happy. I've had it upto 110 kmph but i was gunning it at 6000rpm and i can't imagine that it could achieve anything more than 120kmph. I'll wait until 1500km's before trying any speed tests.
Went on a short ride around my neighbourhood with Wrangler and a friend. Took a few pics from my favourite little chilling spot...

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2N
You may want to invest in some high quality 20W50 weight synthetic oil and some good coolant. Bike shouldn't run that hot, is the fan coming on when you stop in traffic?
Great pics and ride reports

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2N
Thanks ChinaV. I'll get some of that 20W50 oil, i'm nearlly due an oil change. Fan only seems to come on when i turn the engine off.
Quick update. The bike is leaking cooling fluid again. The mechanic bodged it up last time with loctitie but now it's leaking from a different place. Possibly this is why the engine was getting so hot. Took it back to the mechanic, 1 hour and half a tube of loctite later, the leak was fixed. Hopefully for good this time.
I covered 180km's today. Set out on a trip to Fengxian beach and got completely lost on the way home. I found more amazing highways, and nice scenery. Fengxian beach is man made and really really tacky but the trip there was a blast. Pushed the bike to 125kmph at just under 7000rpm so i'm thinking maybe it'll do 130kmph. I don't know how accurate the speedo is though. Also had a little race with a YBR 250, he left me on the long straights but the Raptor held it's own, i wasn't blown away.
Anyway, a few more photo's...

Hey dewsnap, read they you broke some ribs. heal soon. btw, how much did you get the bike for? looks pretty nice.

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2N
Hey GJN. Thanks. The ribs hurt like a bitch.
The 2011 bike was listed at 14,800rmb in Shanghai. We haggled down to 14,000 with a few freebies. Tax, insurance, and the Shanghai Hu C plate raised the total to 23,000rmb.
I've seen this bike listed on TaoBao for 13,000rmb, but you never know what you're getting...

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2N (2011)
Hey Dewsnap,
How has the bike been since your last post about your ride to Fengxian beach? What's the mileage on the Raptor now? I'm have 1650 on the YBR. Was supposed to change the oil at 1600 but my last change was 100km overdue so I'm waiting until 1700 for my next change. After that the bike will be fully broken-in and I won't have to worry so much about keeping it below 6000rpm.
What happened to your ribs dude? You alright?
Pete

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2N (2011)
Hey SP, Ribs are getting better thanx mate. Slowly. I haven't been on the bike much since it happened so i'm itching to get back on 2 wheels.
Mileage is a little over 2000km's. Bike should be fully broken in now. I tried a little speed test b4 doing my ribs in and managed 125kmph. I reckon it could possibly do 130-135kmph, but i don't know how accurate the speedo is. The YBR is a lot faster than the Raptor.
I'm hoping to arrange a bigger ride sometime soon. I've just been going on day trips and haven't done more than 250km's in a single day. I wanna get out there for like 3 days and clock some serious miles now the weather is getting better. I just need to find a riding partner. I'd just get lost venturing out on my own. Shame your so far away mate. BikerDoc down in Ningbo knows his routes and i'm hoping to meet up with him sometime soon. I'm sure you've seen the thread highlighting just how limited Shanghai is for riding.

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2N (2011)
Hey DS,
I wish your ribs a speedy recovery but I'm still in the dark... what happened? Some kind of accident?
It would be awesome if we were able to ride together once in a while. There could never be too many 'Biker Lao Wai in China' (BLWIC). It seems that we are spread very thinly and there aren't too many friends that I can call upon for a ride whenever I want to but at least we can look upon ourselves as a kind of a novelty :icon10:.
It's about 900km from Zibo to Shanghai via the freeways; that will be about 1000km or so via roads available to motorcycles. It's a long way but not impossible for a group of people agreeing to meet halfway.
A three day trip, for example, could be done by covering 400-600km on the first day:riding:, meeting at the half-way point on the second day :kumbaya:and then going home on the third day. This would no-doubt be very tiring :snooze:so unless there were some really good roads to ride on the way or something really nice to see at the half-way point then everyone taking part in the ride might end up despising the whole idea to begin with.
Haven't seen that thread about Shanghai yet. Who created it?
P.s. Call me Pete

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2N (2011)
Quick update on the DD250G-2N after 2500km's (from a newbie perspective)
It's been while since i last posted but i felt like sharing my thoughts (again) about this bike.
I'll put the gripes first...
Negatives:
The engine stil gets outrageously hot even after short rides. The liquid cooling system is useless. The fan doesn't work and I've had 3 leaks already.
The battery died and left me stranded in the middle of nowhere.
The bike is very slow when carying a passenger. I was flat out on a big highway at 105kmph with my friend on the back and (to my horror) was overtaken by a YBR125.
Seat doesn't fit snugly to the frame and is a pain to fit back on properly.
If not ridden for a day or more the engine takes at least 10 minutes or more (usually in the morning when i'm late for work) to fire up and tick over smoothly.
If anything, the sound is a little too aggressive. Even at really low revs the sound scares kids and upsets the neighbours.
The back brake, even after adjusting, severly lacks any stopping power.
There's no real high end, the top speed is (barely) 125-130kmph, and i'm sure with a heavier rider it would struggle to 120kmph.
Positives:
After the breaking in period the bike is much smoother through the gears.
Excellent quality finish and styling.
It's a small bike and very light. Good for city riding.
Great tires that stick to the surface well.
Low fuel consumption.
Good stopping power from the front dual discs.
Good accleration and low end. It's fast between 30-80kmph.
Has enough power to feel comfortable at about 100-110kmph and does well on highways.
Sounds like a 'big bike' and is a very satisfying ride at a comparitively low price.
Conclusion:
The phrase 'you get what you pay for' really sums this bike up. At 14,800rmb it's pretty much the cheapest 250cc you'll find in China.
The new Honda CBF150, for example, is now 12,000rmb. And after riding that for a couple of hours i came to realise how much the DD250G-2N feels like a proper bike. It's really loud and quick. It's also very 'revvy' and light so you can have lots of fun with it accelerating out of the corners and throwing it around a bit. It's perfect for any new rider or someone who wants to have a bit of fun without breaking the bank. If used as a daily commuter i though i would not recommend this bike. It's far too unreliable. Any experienced rider, who's ridden quality machines in the past, will become frustrated with this bike. You'll have plenty of minor issues that can get really annoying, it splutters sometimes, it doesn't perform consistantly, it backfires and overheats, and there are plenty of little niggles meaning you'll probably be at the mechanics every other weekend. I don't want to sound too negative because this bike is a lot of fun. And i can't stress enough just how glad i am that i chose the Raptor over a Japanese 150cc machine. If you want quality and longevity go with a a Yamaha or Suzuki, if you want a bit more power and 'big bike' feel on a budget consider the DD250G-2N. I'm loving this bike.

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2N (2011)
After riding with a group of riders on the DD250G-2, (the older version of my bike) i realised that the DD250G-2N (my bike) was faster even with a passenger.
I asked why, and they told me that the engine size of the newer model is 249cc compared to 234cc of the older model.
The stats on the Regal Raptor website must be dated.

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2N (2011)
That’s my favorite Chinese motorcycle…they were selling them here in the US in a 270cc version, which it seems was only offered in the USA? They since stopped offering them…the only reason I did not buy one is there was no local dealer.
They keep boring it out and now have a 320cc version of that engine.

I would not be too complacent ridding it without the fan working properly.

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2N (2011)
Interesting. I've only ever seen the 250cc and 300cc version in China.
I've managed to upload a vid of my wife and i riding down Anji mountain on Youku. It took 4 hours to upload. The video is 11 minutes but after 3 minutes my wife turns the camera so the video is shot upside down. Gutted. We still have some shorter vid's that i'll post soon. They'll be more interesting.

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2N (2011)
Hi Dewsnap,
Thanks for your courtesy in giving me the chance for a test ride on your RR which took a bit longer than I intended but I really missed the junction. This is not my terrain, believe me. I live in Pudong. I did not like to steel your bike. I want to buy one. But... Tomorrow I go to the dealer again. I've found an option for the license plates. The bike is great. Besides te down shifting. I was one time in TianMa circuit and tried one of the japaneese bikes there (which I figured out later are illegal), a Honda Bandid 250, 40 HP! (claimed). The feeling was like 20 HP. OK, 9 years old. Your RR felt much better.
Cheers!

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2N (2011)
I am a big fan of those motorcycles and noticed that engine on other Chinese brands. I am predicting that since they went the distance with EFI and meeting the new emission, Lifeng will get a boost in the market.
I am not thrilled about the Jonway models’ design but it does come with that engine. I wonder if others will utilize it, I think you may see more models in the future from other manufactures offering the 320cc EFI engine?

Re: Regal Raptor DD250G-2N (2011)
Hey MJH. You certainly know a lot about this Lifeng engine. I've never seen those Jonway bikes before. Where do you get all your info?
Maciej, i never really thought you'd stolen it lol, i was only jesting. I was pleased that you rated the bike so highly especially after having ridden bigger bikes in the past. My wife actually got a call from Aunty Wang at Pubei Lu today, she said that you'd bought the bike. That's the 3rd Raptor they have sold as a result of my recommendation, so i think i'll get a free oil change which is cool. Glad you managed to get it plated. I'll look forward to riding with you soon.
Another quick update on the Raptor. After the Anji trip in the rain, pretty much all the electrics on the bike died. Indicators, headlights, speedo, rev couter, horn all stopped working. That was the first time i'd used the bike in the rain, and the cheap componants couldn't handle it. But on a positive note, the Raptor dealer replaced everything immediately at no extra cost. I must say the service from the Regal Raptor dealer here in Shanghai has been fantastic. I'm really happy with the mechanics, they really know their stuff.

Ha ha, yes I was there when Wang Ayi called your wife. She told me that. I have to wait up to 2 weeks for the plates now. This is hard:rolleyes1:. But the good thing about this shop is you come in and they have bikes in store you can buy immediately, with Guo3, and they take care of your demand and take you seriously. This is a new experience for me in SH. Regarding the electrics, who knows if there isn't any correlation with the aftermarket alarm yo let install? You posted before, the battery died somewhen, too. And the riding feeling on your bike was really great. i mean when accelerating and keeping speed. Very agile. Very smooth. For sure an advantage of the parallel twin. The torque at low revs felt good, too, and no vibrations. That means the EFIs work syncro for both cylinders. The only issue was when down shifting, the engine died without playing with the throttle, which shouldn't be. Perhaps it can be improved.
Take Care,
Maciej

Some of it off this site and some of it off manufactures sites and some of it from government sites. I sometimes just do searches on specifications and find sites in other countries.

Dear MJH,
You've definitely got the touch for sleuthing out data and pix about these bikes, and this forum is much enriched through your efforts. Just hope that it all becomes searchable, as you really are creating a trove of valuable information!
thanks again!
