The bag doesn't bent the side panel, it's OK for the muffler clearance. At least the panel hasn't started smoking yet so I assume it'll be fine.

The Chinese Beast of a Motard is doing fine. Has been reliable so far and...WOW...the spokes don't snap-up! Achievement!
Problem now:
I have a Boyesen high-speed pump and an additional fan on the stock radiators. The right one has a CB-400 fan, the left one doesn't (not enough clearance between the rad and plastic tank cover). The bike still gets hot as hell.
It might probably be quite normal for competition, but that's a righ-leg-BBQ in Nanjing traffic.
Dear MCM gurus, do you have any suggestions here?

ride faster
you could try "water wetter" some magic stuf which increases the thermal conductivity of water
it does work but maybe not enough to combat nanjing summer heat
on a brighter note they are building a race track in yangzhou
so you can come and tear around it

Sure, riding faster would be a solution. I'd rather have it stop overheating in daily traffic, though. That's challenging, but I guess somehow possible. Heard about that water wetter and there was something else mentioned with it (engine ice, I suppose). But could I get that in China? I tried taobao - no luck. Asked local dealers - they never heard of anything of that sort.
Any idea/guess: would it work if I stuck a larger one-piece radiator there? Say, something from Yamaha FZR or CB 1000?

Fill the tank with the gasoline from canister that was in the freezer overnight. I guarantee you that this engine will be cooler. :riding:
Somehow I have the impression that the stock carburetor is not working as it should and makes a lean mixture at mid revs, and the engine overheats. But that's just my presupposition, which does not have to be anywhere near the actual situation.
Who knows, maybe the bottleneck of the cooling system are the radiators, their too small cooling surface, internal volume, how to say... their permeability. Have you had a chance to compare them with the original CRF's radiators? In the end, you can ask for help guys from Motgon Forum.

After I installed free flow exhaust the bike started backfiring like crazy. Put the baffle in - problem solved. No backfiring, no smoke, steady idle, nice pull through RPMs. May as well not be the carb.
Nevere had a chance to see the stock CRF 450's rads, but taobao lists Yaxiang ones reverse compatible with CRF. Read it somewhere they were identical, but can't be sure. Saw nice oversized CRF 450 '05 radiators on eBay, but those were expensive as hell and the dude ships states only.

Who says you have to use radiators for motorcycles, which are, as you can see, not cheap at all? I know some guys that replaced their warped and leaky Apollo AGB-36 stock radiators with car radiator heaters. It is not a simple bolt-on job, you has to make a sub-frame and fuss around with hoses, but if there is no alternative, or she is too expensive...

Or you can try to install some computer fan(s) (power supply or CPU) on the left radiator too.

Those fans are not resistant to the external environment. First rain will kill them.

Will probably have to do it eventually, subframe's no big deal. Real problem will be enough clearance for the radiators. Will do it in September earliest - got no time at all now :(

They are not so fragile and if connections are not too open they do fine. Plus they are dead cheap so you can change them after each rain :D

Actually, I assembled that computer in a Thermaltake case a couple of months ago. And I know for sure that case has super huge super flat super fan on its side. And it's cheap as well. I even think I have one spare fan somewhere at home. Will install it just to see if it makes any difference. If it does, well, I'll goddamn cover both rads with fans just to keep that thing cool.

OK, so everything's been fine since the last month major overhaul, when suddenly the rear wheel spokes started snapping up. Three of them gone in a day. Luckily I had a set of cross-country 嘉陵大白菜 17' spokes at home and took those to the repair shop yesterday. Apparently, laoban was "very happy" to see me with my Asiawing showing up on 七夕 (Chinese Valentine's) evening. He knew that it meant nothing but problems. Anyways, left the bike at his shop for a night,wished him good luck, will see what comes out of it tonight after work.

milton, lots of tips in that book refer to the engines that aren't around any more. It's more, say, an exercise in practical wisdom rather than a certain manual.

OK, so after a little bit more than half a year and over 7K yuan put into the Asiawing LX 450 bike I must admit - it got better. Better than a complete POS it turned into after a couple of months' riding. I have to admit - could I have solved the overheating problem I might have kept it.
I didn't.
The bike just had to go. It was fun, torquey, thin but more than that it was an exercise in frustration. Non-availability of spare parts, no dealership support, inability to ride it long distance because of fear of burning rec/reg and because of it's overheating.
I only put 5000 km on it and it spent approximately the same amount of time in the service shop that I spent riding it.
No matter how much I tried to "beautify" or "westernise" or "japanise" it, it'd never work.
I have to admit - it was a waste of time, money and nerve.
I've had good and bad experiences with good and bad bikes. Chinese and Japanese, both. That is, I guess I have the right to compare here. And I'd just say one thing: do not under any circumstances buy Asiawing. Just keep away. They're light years away from making a reliable balanced product. That thing they call "motard", well, it is not.
Don't be tricked by the headlight (that doesn't lighten up anything) or the blinkers (that stop blinking after the first rain). This bike should never have been street legal. And as for dirt riders - well, good luck with those rims and spokes and hubs.
You jump it - the rims fold up on landing - remember I warned you.
The frame's nice though. You could probably build something around that.
Anyways, all that bla-bla-bla aside, the bike had to go. So it did. Since yesterday I'm not the proud owner of Asiawing's customer murder exercise.
One might think after all that I've lost my trust in Chinamotomovement and will never own a Chinabike again.
Like hell.

Unfortunately Steve, Asiawing likely either couldn't care less, or those that would are likely none the wiser to your experience, or worse are too proud and think that your little trysts with their product are ill founded as your expectations were too high. I'm sorry to say that the new prevailing attitude in China by the locals is one of a superior smugness where step by step don't expect too much on the one hand and tough on the other...
While you managed to get something back for your sizeable investment, I'd have been more inclined to strip anything of value of the bike (e.g. return it back to stock) have it transported to Asiawings offices and having alerted to media, set the bike ablaze with a litre or two of petrol right outside the companies doorsteps... Bet ya they'd take notice then... and you'd likely be applauded by the locals for taking a stand against inferior production etc.

That'd've landed me in a local prison for starting some religious cult or something similar :)
Anyways, I've owned a bike that could be disassembled with a couple of span-wrenches and a screwdriver.
That I worked on almost as many hours as I did at my office.
That made me truly appreciate what a bike has to offer.
Good experience that is. Not to be repeated, though.
As for Asiawing company, well, I couldn't care less, but as far as my market knowledge goes, they aren't a bit competitive.

Turns out the story of my AsiaWing doesn't end up here. It surfaced again. It's still in Nanjing, retrofitted with the dirt tires. With all the instruments and headlight/stoplight removed. Some dude bought it for his dirt track days.
Or so I was told. I haven't seen the bike/the rider myself, but am definitely willing to talk to the guy and take a couple of pics.
Damn, I actually thought the thing was dead for good...
