Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Anyone have any success getting parts from Chad at extremescooters? I sat on hold with Sunny Sports parts for 20 minutes today and then was told I have to deal with Chad since I bought through him. I need a gas tank (leaking), and left mirror (sent two right ones), and a shift linkage rod (broke). I emailed him June 29th and it is now August 2nd and I still don't have any "warranty" parts. Chad always sends me a copy of his email to some Kelly about the parts but I never see a response from her. Any parts suggestions?

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Is your gas tank leaking from the cap? That's actually condensation building up from the cap's vent. Not a defect. I posted earlier about using an elastic ponytail band placed around the cap to wick-up the moisture.
If you've got a leak from the bottom, check the snugness of the petcock. Worst case senerio... I'll sell you my take-off tank.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Sent Chad another email, looks like I might get something this time. Here is what he wrote me:
Good news, I sat on hold for 30 minutes, finally got Kelly on the phone. He entered all 3 parts in their system to ship, he said they should go out tomorrow. I apologized for the delay, he said he has over 200 emails to get through. So I will make sure I call him when parts are needed.
Thanks,
Chad
I'll report back if I actually get the parts. I do have to admit Chad has always responded to my emails, I think Sunny Sports is the problem.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Seems like I have one small problem after another. Now I notice a rattle coming from the exhaust pipe when i pick up speed. If you tap on the exhaust around where that silver heat shield is it sounds like something has broken loose inside the exhaust. Anyone else have that problem?

There is a catalytic converter in the pipe at that point. Unbolt the exhaust pipe/muffler and have a look up the pipe with a good flashlight. Maybe you can remove the cat to get rid of the rattle.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
ok i got mine today! everything was great when it was packaged. so the 100 mile break in i get a broken shift linkage at 30 miles. got stuck, had to run to my brothers house to literally make another one with a thread tap kit. Let me tell you, my homemade one is WAYYYYY better than the oem one. shifts like butter now. On my way home i hit 73 miles and the GAS TANK STARTS LEAKING im like FML! i had to ride it home with a rag on the leak because i had no other option. got home. seen that it was leaking from the welds where the tap the mounting screws into. so i water welded both sides just incase. other than that. its fine for now. can't wait to put my new jet and sprocket on.
Cliff Notes:
breaking motor in gently.
shift linkage breaks at 30 miles
gas tank leaks at 73 miles.
had to ride bike home with my life in danger
jb welded the welds on the gas tank. it had a TINYYY crack in the welds.
and i get a oily/gassy mixture leak from my gas cap, any clue?

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
man, you were lucky and it is fortunate you are so skilled.
for me, that would end 100 odd pages of great biking reads and all the enthusiasm. Cold
more than one fuel tank problem seen with this bike if i remember?
there should be zero, it is too critical, too dangerous
great that the importers seem to try but in the end, quality control and bits so poor and defective and dangerous, fuck it, no one should sell them
its the old chinabike story STILL
peoples lives are not a numbers game, "only one in ten/twenty has such problems" or such thinking is no good to a dude's wife or family if he just crispied himself on a 100 mile first run
not worth the money saving
good luck from now on mate, the sellers should send you a new tank and $500 voucher as an apology - now I bet they say you voided the warranty

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
evokid8,
Ah the joys of Chinese bike ownership.
I like the silver colored tank and fenders with the black headlight bucket, tail light, speedometer case, and turn signals.
Seems to be a lot of different color combinations.
I did the JB weld on a small leak on my tank also. No leak around the gas cap on my DF. Chad sent me a new tank which is still in the box.
Kinda hot in Big H now? Nice hood. You live around the Village?

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information

evo,
Good price.
Please post photos of your shift linkage improvement?

Re: Stock Main Jet Sizes?
evokid8,
I did the same patch in the same place on my tank.:lol8:
Your DF came with a 105? Good thing you checked before ordering one.
Wow, mine came with a 88 and I upped it to 100.
DF must be getting the carbs and or engine from different sources. Real crap shoot with these Chinese bikes.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Looks like the linkage could be made from a piece of "Redi-Rod" and a couple of clevis ends. All available from a NAPA auto parts store.
Where is the tank leak from? Do they have a bolt going through the tank?? It's just a little hard to tell from the photo.
Thanks, and we'd all like to hear more from your experiences with your bike too.
You guys are trail breakers for the rest of us.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
birdmove,
You the one from the ADV and the SYM forums? Pacific Niorthwest, Harley guy?
I am still running the stock shift linkage with no problem.
There is a stud welded to a bracket on the tank on each side to attach it to the frame.
I might have caused the leak on my DF by over tightening the nut that holds the tank on. In my case the stud/bracket pulled away and caused a slight leak. JB Weld fixed the leak same as evokid8's photo showed and so far so good.
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I did the same thing as Barnone. After working on the wiring under the tank I must have overtightened the tank because mine started leaking on both studs under the tank right after I reinstalled it. JB Kwik solved my leaks and I haven't had a problem since. The welds or bottom of the tank must be paper thin because I didn't tighten the nuts that hard!
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Evokid8, how did you get the reverse threads on the one end your wire rack shift linkage?
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
about the tank, yes it was VERY thin! when the new one comes im going to add welds to seal it better. and the shift linkage, you tap it normally on both sides. when you insert it, the foot/front part of the shifter goes in righty tighty, the rear one goes on lefty tighty, INSIDE the rear part of the shift linkage is reversed. so when you put your own one on, line them both up and screw it in at THE SAME TIME and it'll go in perfectly. hope this helps!

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I took My gas tank off to check out the wires and noticed one of the spot welds on the threaded brackets, had broken loose.(I haven't even started the motorcycle yet!):eekers:
My intent was to apply JB weld anyhow, hoping to prevent any possible leaks. I haven't put any fuel in it yet.
Those CCW unpainted gas tanks($129.00-2.7 us gal.) are starting to look better, all the time. If I get ANY leaks, It will become a done deal!

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I just swapped the rear sprocket out for a 35 tooth. Wow, what a difference. Highly recommended. My cir-clip pliers were just a smidge too small, so a small set of needlenose pliers were called into action. Not pretty to watch or listen to, but it got the job done.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
F.Y.I. : LED bulbs work OK with the stock flasher. Just make sure the center contact is + positive. Bulbs do not care, LEDs do.
I had to swap the connection on one front signal light, under the gas tank.
I put a 33 tooth sprocket on the bike, but I weigh less than 180 pounds (US). LOL ! Still waiting for My paper work from Sunny Sports. If I didn't have the Triumph,I would be going crazy !!!
Got the paper work today (15th), it was postmarked on the 10th. They said they mailed it on the 5th.
I also had to put a tube in the front tire. At 0 miles it would not hold air overnight.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
SR.MAILMAN,
Did you see how the wheel/spokes are sealed for the tubeless tire when you had the tire off?

I too, am most curious to the spoke sealant engineering...
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
No, lazy Me took the wheel to Cycle Gear. I think I see O rings at the bottom of the spoke nipples tho.
Also, I have to get an inspection at the main motor vehicle dept.(to register/title). The bike is not on the CT. "list".
I put a 6 led parking light bulb in the headlight. I swear it is brighter than the 35W main bulb...
I went to the CT. Motor Vehicle Department inspection today (24th). They put the VIN. number in their computer and said goodbye to Me.
(You can not argue with them... they have guns).
They would not even look at the bike. Apparently a federal list of some type exists and the bobber is not on it.
I showed them the print-out of accepted motorcycles (EPA ?), they said in their computer or not accepted.
I contacted Sunny Sports and they claimed someone else has registered in CT. They said they would look into it (contact MVD in CT.) and call me back.
I am not holding out much hope of that happening...

I decided to try a new seat so I ordered the above.
Modified the seat support to narrow the holes and drilled two new holes to fit the seat. I wanted to be able to go back to the stock seat if the new one didn't work out.

I might add the overload springs later. Took a short ride and it seemed fine.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Looks sharp Vince good luck and comfy riding with it
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Thanks Gardo.
Just got back from a forty mile ride and the seat was a success.
Next i want to build a rear rack and a mount for the overload springs but the rear and the front turn signals need to be replaced with some bar end turn signals that I have.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
That seat looks excellent.Glad it worked out and at a good price too.

ktmracer,
Are you not on a Heist? I believe that the Heist is running the smaller 428 chain where the DF250RTB is using a larger 520 chain.
Anyway, the place where I got my sprockets for the DF250RTB is http://www.oldbikebarn.com/Motorcycl...?search=JTR279.
I'm currently running a 38 tooth rear which seems to work well here in the mountains of Western North Carolin. I ran a 33 tooth rear in flat Florida and it was fine there. Front sprocket is a 13 tooth.
Will you be using the Heist in the Rider' Edge training? That would be neat.
