CCW tha Heist

Good Morning,
I just read the whole 99 page thread..lots to read. Im planning a bike purchase this winter to use as a commuter to work (42 miles each way all high-way) It looks like the head mod,carb, and exhaust are mods Id be going with. I have been looking at bike for a bit, this will be My first motorcycle, although I have built 3 motorized bicycles a 1950 Schwinn Panther, 1953 Schwinn Spitfire, and a 2010 Schwinn DelMar. So I am familiar with the basic operations of a motorized 2 wheeler. I saw on the CCW website a bike with a pillion pad on the rear fender, I havnt seen anyone write or say anything about riding 2-up on these bikes. I know its only a 250 but Im 130 and the old lady is 105 and It would be just for a few "sunday drives" thanks for posting all this great info.

Chain, first up welcome to then MCM boards there is another member here from your neck of the woods Kb96gt is from Cambridge MA and has had his Heist longer than I have.
This is a great bike for new or more veteran riders and a lot of fun. I definitely recommend the Head Carb and exhaust mods plus new sprocket and chain. i do a lot of freeway and highway miles on my bike the pick up and acceleration are great for it. The stock bike will do fine but its a bit of a lag and you will push the motor hard at fast then 65mph.
The two up is not at all advised on this bike, the Misfit it is, the rear fender on the heist is held on by 4 bolts and I dont trust the metal in those bolts I replaced mine with stronger stainless allen bolts. maybe suring up the fender would work but havent tried it and also havent heard from the guy that did it if it works and what the outcome has been.

Since you are a "new" rider I suggest doing the Motorcycle safety course to get your endorsement.

No passenger seat or pegs makes this bike unsafe for passengers. I feel the bike is too small the way its built to safely ride with 2 people on it. Id say get the wife a bike too!!

Hey thanks for the welcome guys. I saw that Kb96gt is in Cambridge..thats where I work. I sent Weaver an e-mail about the upgrades and parts he offers. Has anyone swapped out to 1 inch bars? It seems there are more options out there for bars,controls,mirrors etc. that are 1 inch.

Welcome David and Chain! I can tell you as a guy with no experience wrenching on bikes - this forum and Gardo's Heist Riders Facbook group has been nothing short of awesome for help and troubleshooting, as well from the guys at PIT Motors. It's really become a true brotherhood of Heist owners. No offense to my dealer, but I only called him once for a troubleshooting question right after getting my Heist, if that tells you anything. Gardo - you're at 100 pages on here now. If you never started that FB group, the pages on this forum would probably be doubled.

Ive been tossin around the idea of doin a foot clutch and jockey/suicide shifter???? I would probaly keep hand clutch too for parking lots and panic stops. Has anyone done the jockey shifter yet???? I just love the Hardcore look and ride of a suicide shifter! I worked with a guy who had a Custom bobber/chopper built by Billy Lane of Choppers Inc, and I loved the suicide shifter! That Scoot was SICK!

Regarding the Suicide clutch, I want to figure out a way to build it with a detent, or lockdown if U will. Old Triumph's and Harleys that had suicide clutches would use a detent so You could put both feet down at a stop. Push clutch all the way down and it locks, when ready to go push clutch disengaging the detent and You are good to go. The hard part will be making somthing that isnt too bulky and looks good!

Foot clutch hand shift does look fun. I also like that bike on CCWs customer pages that has the mid controls. That looks slick.

itrguy get the suicide shifter and a rubber band cheap and not bulky. How's that for a bigot ghetto engineering lol

To be serious I think it can be done but is it cost prohibitive one can be custom machined out of aluminum. Need to talk to a buddy in CA who is an aircraft fabricator get his feel for it

So far whats been done
Pained the housing for the Speedo and the Hedlight
changed out all the lights and running lights
Rose the tank
redid some of the eltrical
swapped out the cheap nuts and bolts for stainless allen nuts and bolts
shimmed the rear fender
New D.I.D 428 HD chain
16T front sprocket
new grips
rewrapped the pipe and thinking of painting the exhaust black

Will add some pics tomorrow after the camera is charged

Shimmed fender so it sits closer to the tire? Tha'ts what I'm doing when I chop my fender.

JK3 funny but what makes that funny is that its true - once i find my Camera I'll take some good pics

As far as the shim was to give my seat a bit more room with it extended all the way back, rubs less but it also made it sit closer to the wheel. Needed to redo the rear light wiring so the tire wouldnt rub

Love the 16t and new chain. VERY nice inexpensive mod. New guys: put this one at the top of your list.

Put em on one day and felt so good, I just left them. Seat sits low, but super comfy. Yes, a fistful of throttle = a assful of fender.

There has been talk about chain tensioners, and I just noticed that Lowbrow now has new clamp-on tensioners (no welding required) for 1" and 1 1/8" tubing. Would this work on our bikes - at the cross tube in front of the battery box?:
