Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I had the same thing from Sunny Sports in CA. The 150cc they shipped me,there # MC-D150H, had no Carburetor drain screw in it. I think when they shipafter testing, as mine had 1.2 miles on it, they drain the fuel so they canship it. I bet the guy never put the screw back in and shipped it like yours Idumped gas on the floor until I smelled it and thought I flooded the Carb Ifyou look at your Carb you will see a tube leading off the very bottom of thecar bowl towards the ground. There should be a taper threaded 6mm screw with an“O”- ring on it and a slot head to screw into the metal fitting on the end ofthe tube. I got one from a local scooter store in town so I could start mine.Of course they messed up the MSO with the wrong cc’s on it so I can’t registerit yet either and I’m frustrated but looking forward to joining the Chinamotogroup of riders.
Good Luck

[QUOTE=bobber250;33501]I couldn't wait... I went out in the dark with a flashlight and a screwdriver and found the pesky little drain screw and closed it... Its beautiful.... a work of art... Thank you sir, sometimes my elder brain needs a kickstart...

Your welcome. Something about even an old blind dog can find a bone applies to me. My oldest child will be 41 years old in December:wheelchair:.
Oh, the rule on this forum by Crazy Carl is that the bike don't exist without photos.
I thought that we might get together since I am just over the border in Robbinsville,NC but then I found out you are 250 miles away in TN.

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...8&l=3b8ccaa134It just plain looks good in my drive.... and... now it is real... =)
The damp spot in the exhaust is where the gas dripped when I un-pinched the drain line from the float bowl last nite...

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Barnone et al,
My name is Tom, and I am hoping to pull the trigger on one of these by weeks end. I do have some questions. First off thanks for all the info it has been a wild ride reading about this bike through the posts here. I found this bike by accident when I found out the HD Crossbones was no longer being made and there were only 5 units available, none of them to me. But $20,000 vs <$2,500 seems like a no brainer anyway. I have owned other bikes in the past most recently a new 2008 Honda Rebel 250. The rebel like the DF250 is a 250cc class motor (the df at 229cc and the Rebel at 234cc; 2.24% difference in displacement.) On the rebel I was able to travel from Lake Charles to Beaumont,TX (68.3 mi), Bridge City, TX (45.1 mi), and Spring, TX (~134 mi) consisting of Farm Road, Highway, and Interstate traffic. On all these trips the speeds ranged from 45-75 mph. The rebel would struggle at 68-75 depending on wind direction and if I was trying to pass a semi or not but it could do it.
From reading the thread it seems like that is not possible with the DF250 does the 2% difference in displacement really matter that much? I am not really a gear head (I couldn't have told you what a carburetor did before a few hours ago) but I do want to understand.
Barnone: You said this bike is not an interstate bike, but did you mean you wouldn't take it on the interstate or it can not handle the interstate. The rebel did work on the highway, it was far from fun when there was lots of traffic but we made it, throttle open all the way but it was great on an early morning ride when traffic was low.
Any thoughts would be appreciated,
Tom
Here is a pick of the rebel I had, it is no longer with us had to trade it in for a real car when my wife got preggers almost 2 years ago. :'(

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Also is there a reserve on the tank? The rebel had a dohicky (petcock?) that you could turn if you ran out of fuel in the main part of the tank. Does the DF250 have something similar?
Thanks
Tom

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
tomjohnson,
Of course you can take the DF on the interstate and I would expect the DF and the Rebel to have the same performance. When I say I don't consider a 250cc bike an interstate bike, I mean I would not buy it if I was doing long distance high speed travel on the interstate. I don't believe running my bikes wide open to keep up with highway traffic. BTW, I had a Nighthawk 250 which has the same engine as the Rebel and it was not IMHO an 70 MPH highway capable bike.
I've ridden I10 from Lake Charles to Houston many times and you need to be able to cruise at 75+ MPH to keep up with traffic. I don't dare go through Atlanta on I75 without a 80 MPH cruise bike. 80 MPH cruise in my opinion means you have a bike capable of 100 + MPH.
There is a reserve on the tank.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
So if I am comfortable going 65-70mph on I10 anywhere from Baton Rouge/NOLA to Beaumont I should be fine on this bike. (Its mostly for day trips to see family or Work)
Can you get 65-70MPH wide open without the Sprocket/Carb mods referenced throughout the thread? BTW I am 5'7" 180ish.
Thanks
Tom

You will have to change the rear sprocket to a 35 tooth one ( http://www.oldbikebarn.com/Motorcycl...?search=JTR279 ) because the stock one is geared too low to run 70 MPH.
My DF came with a 88 main jet which would not allow the engine to run at high rpm. I put in a 100 which fixed the problem. Some are now reporting that their DFs are coming with a 105 so you will need to pull the float bowl and check the size of the main jet.
You need some mechanical skills to own one of these Chinese bikes unless you have access to a good mechanic.
You might be better off to buy a nice used Japanese bike like a Kawasaki Vulcan 500 for your interstate riding.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
This bike looks to cool to pass up. I have very little in the way of mechanical skills, but you have to learn somewhere, this seems like a good place. I do have access to people with mechanical skills, but I think I will try my damnedest to learn how all this works.
Thanks for the insight.

Tom,
The DF is a very neat bike. Get use to being peppered with questions or park in out of the way places.
Don't over tighten the bolts. Good luck and keep us informed of your progress.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Hello all, I am impatient and can hardly wait for the MCO and bill of sale to arrive. I was told by the nice people at Killer Motorsports that they had mailed the documents and that they should arrive last Friday. Well...Friday has come and gone...and Monday has come and gone, now it has been 8 days for an envelope to transit the wide expanses of Texas to the wilderness of Chapel Hill Tennessee.... as I have said in an earlier post , customer service at Killer Motorsports leaves a lot to be desired. I sent an e-mail Sunday night asking where the documents could possibly be... The following is my correspondence...
================================================== =====================================
ok. I will be sure to inform everyone checking out the Dong Fang bobber that you don't really care what happens after the bike is shipped. I will also point out the errors on your page as well as the outright lies. For example... free assembly toolkit... doesn't exist--- free PDI before shipping...didn't happen at all, the bike was shipped from California , when it arrived the fuel line was disconnected from the carbuerator and the drain was open on the float bowl---- the bike is advertised as a 250cc when it is definitely a 229cc engine--- also the bike is advertised to have ABS, doesn't have ABS at all. The biggest problem is that your company wants everyone to believe that the customer service it better than the other companies selling the same bike, my experience has been poor so far. I ask you about the needed documentation required for me to register the bike and I am told that , you mailed it out and can't do anything else. I would have thought that when you mail title documents for a vehicle, there would be a tracking number or some other way to determine where in the world they are. I am amazed at the lack of concern for the as yet undelivered documents, especially since it does not take a week for a letter sent from any part of Texas to arrive in any other part of the United States. Don't misunderstand me, I really do like the product... and will recommend it to others, but I will also advise them to use another vendor. The same bike is sold by about 10 other companies for about the same price. Feel free to check my post my username is Bobber 250 .

It is now 9-11 and the paperwork has STILL not arrived. Can somebody tell me
where it is?
Sean Truman
When I am asked about the customer service on the mychinamoto forum, how
would you like me to respond? 1 week to process the order 1 more week til
the bike arrives with no helmet OR toolkit (one I paid for the other you
promised on the website as a bonus for purchasing from you) ,
1 more week for the helmet to arrive and now 1 week and counting for the
MCO... You have been paid in full and immediately , no waiting...
Did you think that I might like to ride the bike before winter arrives...
Its been almost a month... I can give your company good feedback directly to
the people that are interested in these bikes or I can tell them to buy the
Heist instead.
I really only want you to do what you say you are going to do. Failing that
you have lied... Lying to customers is not a good business practice. Now...
I don't care if the toolkit is junk , it's a matter of principle... You
promised it and I want it.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Theres my $0.02 worth... I have a difficult time dealing with poor customer service. I have an even more difficult time dealing with companies that mislead or lie to their customers. I admit that $2300 is not much money, but what kills me is that the paperwork for the finance company arrived on time... and I have sent the first installment and I have still not gotten the paperwork to register the bike. So , I would recommend that anyone interested in this beautiful bike should buy one, just don't use Killer Motorsports in Texas. I purchased my bike over a month ago.
Nuff Said....
Thanks guys, I hope the information I posted this evening will help others avoid some pitfalls associated with this type of purchase.

Hey all I finally uploaded my pic of my ride..

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...f/P8300022.jpg
well there it is..Haven't even started it yet..kinda been so busy with work..and there are a few details I would like to handle before I put any fuel in it..but I have gone over it,found a few flwas..but I am one of those..Ya get what you pay for kinda thinkers..I know it will not be perfect..and honestly who is?I had absolutely no trouble what so ever with scooter depot..they have handled everything top notch like they did in the past with me when I bought my 150cc Titan scooter I have had for 3 years..and 28,226 miles.
I plan on changing out the tail light and signals to a single unit that has all three(brake/tail,signals,plate light)..I am going to look at some ammo boxes for my saddle bags..I am looking at a few different style handle bars, and I will get my magnetic oil drain plug first before any fluids go in.Next will be the seat..and on from there.
Took a motorcyle training/safety course over this past weekend..passed with no issues, then on to the DPS for my new liscense.Tags, inspection and then freedom on the open road...well sorta open..gotta keep a lookout for the crazies most of the time..but the idea is the freedom..
will keep ya'll posted.
p.s. please forgive the condition of my lawn in the pics..we have been in a severe drought for the last 3 months and my grass is gone..cannot water much due to restrictions..I am kinda sad as I work with my wife real hard to maintain our lawn and gardens....gonna have to get some sod.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
bowtiewagon,
Good photos and I can see your bow tie wagon in the background.
The all flat black is the one I would get if I get another DF. I'd pull off the tape on the fenders and the tank and leave the rest of it alone. It looks old school just fine.
I'm looking for some ammo cans also. I removed the rear turn signals so have plenty of room for some.
I want to get my hands on a set of those flat black handlebars and the flat black tail light.
I put some of the black wire wrap over those white battery wires.
Glad to hear again that you had good luck with scooter depot.
Too bad about the drought in Texas. My brother in Dripping Springs is sweating the wild fires. Two other brothers in Houston have had to let their lawns go also because of lack of water.
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
My glossy black DF appears to have clear coat over the tape on the tank and fenders. I tried starting to pull off the tape with my fingernails but I can't get it started. What am I doing wrong?
Anybody come up with different tank ideas?
Here's one on Ebay that might fit. 3.3 gallon capacity.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_W0QQ...KQ3aMEWAXQ3aIT
Need to spend some time at a bike junk yard to do some looking for a tank.

Yes sir, thats my baby. She's a 1963 Belair 9 passanger wagon.Straight 235/6cyl. all original..less the three on the tree.converted to automatic.evrything is there but two trim strips on the passenger side roof. Luggage roof rack is perfect.Interior is excellent except for driverside seat on the bench..a very very large salesman drove this car all around texas..never had anyone else in it. rear seat was brand new looking when I unfolded it. anyway..she's road worthy..just cost to much for fuel..thats why i have the new bike.

Anyone had experienc e with this dealer?

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
That is the same bike..but if you look at the warranty available..it is kinda slim compared to what i was able to acquire from scooter depot. I have a full 1 year on motor and frame, plus it comes with a 6month parts warranty..but I paid the little extra for the full one year parts warranty.my total landing cost to my front door was $2408.
The cost of the bike you show is only $100 less than what they show at Scooter depot..but you have to add in the shipping and such. check into it before you decide..plus I am gonna stand behind the depot..they have been good to me..twice already.and when I call for questions..very helpfull.

bowtiewagon, I would trade lawns with you... mine is soooo overgrown I have a hayfield...LOL... everything broke one after the other... push mower first, then the weed eater... then the riding mower then the wifes car followed closely by my little truck and when I used the good old stand by big truck it quit under me on the interstate going home from work... thats the biggest reason why I got my bike.... I just love the blacked out version you got.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Dear Bowtie,
Bike looks great in matt black, an effect that I think is called "murdered out" in some neighborhoods ('hoods that are probably better avoided...) I like the black bars, and like the bend in them.
Did it really ship with no rear-view mirrors? Don't go out without them!
Very glad to know you took the MSF course, which really does help to understand how different motorcycling is compared to caging. You are utterly at the mercy of others, unless you have your radar and sonar and every other sensing device scanning at all times -- which you'll need to do on any road in America since most cagers are too busy with 99 cockpit distractions to have any time to show you any mercy. Once you are splattered on the interstate, monday morning mercy won't help.
Watch your back! (and your front and sides, and everywhere else) And ride safely.
cheers

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Mirrirors are still in the box..I have yet to add them or the battery yet. Kinda been busy with work and I want to make sure everything is just right before I fire it up. Though the bars look cool..they are a bit to far forward for me..i am 5'9" and I have a bit of a cronic lower back issue..and sitting on the bike and leaning forward does not feel comfy..so i am after a set that are closer to me..reason for the lack of install on the mirriors.
