Good to see your plans haven't changed Ekki! I hope the next few months of headaches don't put you off. It's probably gonna be an aweful shitstorm and you'll likely lose the will to live but you'll see, once you're out the other end of the paperwork rectum, wash yourself off and get on your squeazel, it'll all have been worth it!
thanks for the heads up.. does Franki live in the mainland? will find him and send him a PM..
Technically, Franki lives in Hong Kong, and is a lifelong honkie. In reality, he spends what seems like months of every year riding some of the greatest roads in China and southeast Asia. A rider's rider. He also has a motorcycle supply business in HK, catering mainly to the bimmer crowd. Has some great gear in there, starting with Germany's Daytona line of boots. These are the best you can get.
cheers!
FINALLY! Paperwork and money submitted to driving school in Beijing. Only took 3 trips to make them finally accept my application. Now for the actual written and practical exam....
Off topic, I've noticed a bit of an increase in the number of police equipped with 600cc bikes. Anybody else?
Jialing sells boatloads of the JH600B police bike and it's PLA cousin -- apparently far, far more than it sells of the civilian versions -- but I've actually never seen one of these in Beijing, or Shanghai for that matter. I have seen them in cities in the west and south, always with the sidecar. Not sure if there's any military or police use of the JH600 two-wheeler....
cheers
Just got call from driving school - written exam this Monday afternoon. Only registered with Laoshan on Wednesday; talk about fast turn around! IF things go well and I pass, driving exam should be for next Friday. I would LOVE to begin riding my bike. Don't touch it except to go to Lotte Mart down the street for groceries on Saturdays and it kills me to walk buy it every morning on my way to work. Sigh.
Ok. License update. I could't make the first exam so had to reschedule to last Wednesday: passed written test with 96%. Anybody have an approximation on when laoshan will call me to schedule my practical?? The weather is just getting too nice to be able to continue resisting the urge to ride my baby illegally. I broke down yesterday and made a quick trip from Lidu to Wudaokou and back avoiding all the major roads. hehe.
Congrats on passing your exam!
Your score is the same as mine. When I asked those guys at the front of the classroom which ones I got wrong, they brushed me aside and told me not to worry. OK ... "My defence, your honor, is that I was never told that I made a mistake on the DL test when I answered that I can drive on sidewalks, going the wrong way, at 80 k/h. If only they had told me I was wrong, this trouble would not have happened."
Good luck with your riding "lessons". :riding:
