Re: 2010 CFMoto Jetmax 250 Scooter
Hi JAyKay, great stuff. So where are the pictures? The golden rule of motorcycle forums is, - if there are no pictures then it doesn't exist... LOL. :lol8:
It sounds then as though the shock extenders don't list the scoot as high as replacing the CST low profile radial tyres with regular radial tyres. When I did this the centre stand could not deploy to handle the increased ground clearance without modification.
Look forward to some photos and a RR before too long.

Haha. Yes, you are right of course. H/W photo of extender in place.

The bike sits nicely on the center stand when on level hard standing, however, if you are on the soft stuff or very uneven surface then I'd recommend using the side stand with a plastic support under it to stop sinking. With the reduced clearance created by the extenders the center stand will only tolerate about a centimeter of sinking before the bikes stability may be compromised.
I'm really happy with this bikes performance so far and once I've got past the running in period I'm hoping there will be much more positive feedback to come. :naughty:
Just as postscript, the handling and feel of the bike has been positively effected by this upgrade. The steering now has a more precise feel to it and by reducing the compression of the rear shocks (mine are now set on 2nd level) a softer more comfortable ride can be had even with two up and fully loaded!

Re: Bikerdocs 2010 CF250T-6A Jetmax Review
Interested to read that the '14 Jetmax does away with that main fuse hidden in the front cubby/locker. I suspect it might have been relocated elsewhere maybe on the inside of the tupperware? That fuse I refer to and as can just be seen in the right of the pic above, is an old glass cylindrical type, and very useful for using as a de-facto charging point. I have a trickle charger on it most of the time when the scoot is parked up. Getting at the battery is a right pain, lessened if one removes the front grill and associated tupperware etc.
I do know that there have been a few other mods concerning the brake design on the newer Jetmax models compared to the likes of mine, not sure on other mods though. The export model Jetmax's are fitted with adjustable rear pre-load shocks compared to the non-adjustable type for the domestic market model. The adjustable shocks are far more expensive compared to the non-adjustable type.

I have taken it to an upholsterer that just does bike seats and he said this is common on other breeds as well and he has cut them out without affecting seat strength.
He took pics of me on the bike for positioning and will use a better quality and thicker (+25mm) foam, build up a backrest further back where I need it and recover so I hopefully will have a new version back in a few days.

Since about 6000km's the Jetmax has been leaving a small amount of oil on the garage floor when parked. At first I thought it was an engine leak, but have traced the oil to an oil breather hose which protrudes near belt drive housing & to the left in front of the rear wheel. I'm left to wonder why they didn't have the hose exiting back into the engine or sump, or into the air filter housing as is the norm on many motorcycles. Instead I have a small 20-30ml oil deposit that is growing in size nightly in my garage. Time for a small oil collection pan or I might explore an alternative way of collecting the oil at the end of the tube/hose.
I have the same but only a drop or two running down I assume the inside of the rear guard and onto the floor.
Or could that bump midscreen be an outlet? (off to check)
I wiped it before going out this morning and 50klm later it looks like this again
Attachment 16227
The oil level is over the max fill mark so I am wondering if it'll stop when it gets down to the fill line.

But I must ask, what's the point of a crankcase breather if it is then blocked off?

What if instead of blocking or crimping the end I raised it so the oil drains back into the system but the breather still breathes?

That and the shockies wound off a notch from max and the bum is happier

Now, off to install those horns.

Re: 2010 CFMoto Jetmax 250 Scooter
Horns done (Big difference) and over the last few days have gradually wound the shockie adjusters back down to zero - ride is more comfortable, I don't know why I thought they needed to wound up to max.
Waiting for china mail to get my LED's for the top box to me.
Took a 2009 400cc Burgman for a blast yesterday to see if I was missing out on anything and am happy to say that I prefered the Jetmax by far, especially with the modified seat.
The burgy did suck up the bumps better and I did like it's mirrors, but it didn't feel as tight, nippy and nimble as the jetmax.
Sure, it was an older bike, but it was top dollar at a dealership so should have been tweaked and presented at its best I would think.

Re: 2010 CFMoto Jetmax 250 Scooter
Oil leak has stopped, seems it was over full, now it is on the line no more leak.
Front shocks crashing on occasion is a bit of a concern, but google shows that many bikes of many brands have similar issues so I guess its something i'll live with unless anyone has suggestions?
6000klm service coming up soon, cant find info on what gets done and will have to hit bikerdoc up for some parts - not sure how long brake pads should last but will get a full set as well as filters
Near 3000klm ridden since purchase and couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Hi
With my CF Jetlux got about 11.000km out of the back and fronts was ok but replaced all front and back . Both the Jetlux and Jetmax are good bikes had a chance the other week to ride the Docs Jetmax , same good ride as the Jetlux but with a different skin but rides a bit better with bigger wheels a must say

Good to hear, so several thousand to go then

Lots of big holes in the road in Australia, not so noticable in a car which is 99% of users.
Mostly its things like coming off of a or entering a driveway, here we tend to have as much as a 50mm 90 degree edge on them, hit them at much more than walking speed and I get the clunk.
Also we have a tendency to put a manhole cover either 1 inch higher or lower than the road level and have that right on your line when going through a roundabout at 50kph.
Or dig a trench across a road for some reason and then fill it either 2 inches low or 1 inch high, so yeah, I am hitting them too fast but what to do when the speed limit is 60, 80 k + and you have a car up your arse.

Re: 2010 CFMoto Jetmax 250 Scooter
Hi
50mm don't sound that much to worrie
about , here in China we tend to worrie about
Holes of 150 mm !! so "maybe" you could
have a issue with your front shocks , need to get
them checked out !!

Sounds like the crankcase might have been overfilled? But check that breather tube regardless as the open ended type tube with a bung/plug in the end will leak after a time. The sealed tube is the better proposition. I saw a new Jetlux (Jetmax in different clothes and smaller wheels sold here by CFMoto) with a sealed breather hose/tube just last Sunday.
Keep in mind that the front shocks are not full length shocks as found on motorcycles or on many of the big maxi scooters e.g. Burgmna650, TMax500 etc. Consequently the amount of suspension travel on the shorter shocks such that the Jetmax has, is significantly less. ANY Surface irregularities will be felt way more on the likes of the Jetmax in comparison. Changing your riding style and approach to road conditions is paramount otherwise your ride will likely suffer some form of failure. Just like a mates Jetmax RHS swingarm sub frame did. He rides it like a trail bike though, so it was to be expected. Though I was surprised when he complained about the build quality etc, when the reality the failure was induced stress bought about by operator error IMO.
As for sourcing parts, most of the consumables must be available in OZ surely, but if not then sure I can help out.

Please bear in mind roads can be very bad in China so 50mm to us is classed as nearly being flat heheh with my Jetlux like Docs friend I did hit some very deep holes at high speeds, Bad on Me not bad on the bike IMO

I certainly dont ride it hard or take it in the rough, just occasionally I get caught with an unavoidable, to me, bump.
Enough to get a clunk from the front, but not enough to feel anything bad from the rear.

Oh I can get them here, but like most things here we will get raped.
Price on a full set of pads here was $150 Vs $25 in China (plus freight ???)
Oil filter here was $18 and there they are about $2.50 (plus freight ???)

I buy stuff in from the states and on eBay from China regularly, but can find little for the jetmax on eBay.
How safe do you think these guys (above) would be to use?
I found this one that you use there but chrome doesn't auto translate for some reason

Re: 2010 CFMoto Jetmax 250 Scooter
It's the freight aspect that can be a cost prohibitive factor, unless one is buying expensive &/or large quantities. I recently sent AUD1100+ worth of replacement parts over to another CFMoto rider in OZ (QLD)- fuel tank, set of front forks, radiator, headlight ...yadda, yadda, yadda, and some consumables etc for a 650... so for that rider it was worth the AUD200 courier... mind you once it was sent, he had the items within several days.
It's a lot of work though from this end...
I as a rule generally don't deal with any of the TB sellers for CFMoto parts I can source from the factory... I prefer to deal direct with CFMoto factory parts...
Word of caution, just because something is advertised on TB don't mean it exists, real, available or is as it indicates it MIGHT be on the tin...

Re: 2010 CFMoto Jetmax 250 Scooter
With the front shocks, after reading countless posts about various breeds of bikes I am not 100% convinced it is actually the shock but perhaps a hose or something hitting something???
I need to investigate more.
Does not happen on all bumps, doesn't even happen on all big bumps.
First drama since ownership came this morning when I did hit a big bump, big enough that soon after the bike started missing, finally ended up stalling and having all sorts of re starting issues.
No warning lights in dash and no temp issues so I initially thought it was shit in the tank jolted up after the bump as it was just cough splutter stall but when it became no turning over at all I gathered it was electrical.
Eventually after a bit of scolding (think Basil Fawlty beating his car) it did start and I limped it home.
Pulled some plastic for a look and here is what I found on the left hand side
Attachment 16361Attachment 16362
Pushed the wires and boots back in and all seems better than ever.
This pic here on the right hand side, I take it this is the main fuse that used to be in the dash with the other fuses on older models?
Attachment 16360
Spare pics - not sure why they are there, cant get rid of them sorry

Re: 2010 CFMoto Jetmax 250 Scooter
The sound you hear when riding over rough surfaces might be due to some design of the front forks. As an example, BMW's G650GS has a plastic insert/cap that vibrates with a thump sound when the forks are subjected to harsh movements such as when hitting sudden objects/obstacles. Not sure if this is a similar situation with the Jetmax shocks. Never the less, due to design and execution, riding the bike to the conditions, I hardly - if ever experience such phenomena with the Jetmax. My GS is a different story however.
If you find your Jetmax seems to experience a fairly constant amount of the front end thumping within the front end, I'd suggest you pay attention to that RHS rear swing arm. Given that two other CFMoto scoots (MCM members) have suffered failures with the rear swingarm alloy subframe. Again, IMO it is due to both riders pushing the scoots. a Jetmax (one rider) & a Jetlux (the other rider) beyond the spec's for which the scooters are designed. Put another way, with a lot more mileage on my Jetmax I have not suffered the same failure as has been the case with either the Jetmax or Jetlux. I pay a lot of attention to the riding surfaces and always take steps to avoid or minimise stresses to the scoot (in fact all my rides), either slowing speed considerably or where possible riding round the irregularity - basically riding to the conditions.
In regards to the main fuse, that looks to be the main fuse that are in the front main cubby on my and a mates older Jetmax, which one assumes has been relocated on newer models. Having that fuse up front has been useful as it is where I connect my trickle battery charger.
Wonder why CFMoto relocated that fuse? Would be interesting to put an new and older model side-by-side stripped down for comparison sake.

Thats a 30 can box of 375ml cans with space to spare.
I wish we could get one of these in Vietnam, fill it up with ice a dozen cans and a couple of Banh Mi and off to our favourite bit of beach for the day, something we just can't do with a Nouvo.

Re: 2010 CFMoto Jetmax 250 Scooter
Does anyone have any idea where to find the fan relay?
As I rolled into the driveway today after a longish ride I got a slow red followed by 5 fast so a 15 code which is "Short circuit to battery' s positive polar of the fan relay."
Doesn't sound like much of a drama and I am hoping its just a loose connector, but where is it???
I can guess that its removing panels to access the front but knowing my luck after doing that it'll end up being down the back.
Its due for its 6000 klm service in about 200klm, should I just not worry about it and get it fixed under warranty?
Help or advice appreciated.
ADD: It hasn't happened again and the fan does come on, so I guess it will wait.
I assume they will plug the computer in and see the error code and address it, I will remind them to do so anyway and to repair the MP3 player while they are at it, I don't use it but it should be working, wish it had a trip counter instead.

Having problems with charging the battery. Don't know if I need to replace or not. I am charging it through the glove box as suggested. Had it on over 20 hours. It still won't start and I noticed the speedometer is all the way up. Could there be a problem? The digital read out is on even though the key is not turned on. I don't want to wreck anything. Please help, I am not very scooter literate.

Battery Replacements:
Yuasa YTX12-BS
Motobatt MBTX12U
The first part sounds like a dying battery. I'd replace the battery first.
I have found that the OEM battery on the Jetmax to last about year before they seem to die off, so I've switched to a Motobatt battery. Some might suggest a Yuasa brand battery - which are fairly reliable, however I personally like the adaptability of the Motobatt connectors on top. MotoBatt is an AGM battery, a type of Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) battery.
According to Motobatt...
AGM Battery Technology AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) sealed battery technology was originally developed for military aircraft where power, weight, safety, and reliability were paramount considerations.
AGM battery technology offers improvements over other sealed battery technologies.
This "next generation" technology delivers increased safety, performance, and service life over all other existing sealed battery types, including Gel technology.
AGM batteries have an extremely low internal electrical resistance combined with faster acid migration, which allows the AGM batteries to deliver and absorb higher rates of amperage than other types of sealed batteries during discharging and charging.
AGM technology batteries can be charged at normal lead-acid regulated charging voltages therefore, it's not necessary to recalibrate charging systems or purchase special battery chargers.
The second aspect of your enquiry suggest that there's possibly a short circuit if when you turn OFF the ignition (especially if removing ignition key from ignition) and the dash display remains on. The speedo needle normally does a sweep of the speedometer as part of the ECU self check diagnostic on ignition ON. Is the scoot getting any red light code flashes on the dash at all?
I'd go with battery replacement first - then if that doesn't remedy things, take the scoot to an auto-electrician, unless you have faith in your local CFMoto dealer... or the scoot is still under warranty.

Re: 2010 CFMoto Jetmax 250 Scooter
Still loving mine, best bang for buck 200, 300cc scooter by a country mile in my opinion and I have ridden them all now.
The battery drainage issue on the newer models seems to be fixed, I was overseas for a couple of months and expected a dead battery on return but it fired up first time so I am happy with that.

Hi,
I take it that these bulbs were H4, not HS1 as per original fitment?
About to do the same and as I have a set of 55 watt H4's sitting in a box was considering using them.
Have you had any issues, the interweb mentions meltage issues on various bikes.
Thanks

H4 bulbs from memory.
I think the maximum wattage would be 55/60W. The standard wiring loom doesn't seem to be able to handle much more than that. The 3 pin connectors that connect directly to the 3 male pins of the headlight bulb, deformed on mine. Some heat warped/melted the connectors. I went with HIDs eventually. However I'd look at LEDs since they are available now. Make sure to get LEDs with the heat sink or fan, and not just a LED headlight replacement bulb. The LED needs to operate at a maximum temperature, anything more degrades the life of the LED.
-
Re: 2010 CFMoto Jetmax 250 Scooter
Yeah OK thanks for that and on to plan B as I don't really want to go ripping guards off and buying more bulbs.
As its really only for an occasional short trip, not a regular thing by any stretch I'll just mount one of these in line with the bottom of the grill angled down.

Only drama I see is the law says it must be high beam only, whereas I only need it for low beam.
Just need to figure out how to have it so it only comes on when the lights are on with a toggle switch to select "high on LED on" as per the law and "low on LED on" as per my actual needs.
