Re: The rummored Shineray X5 is coming
I Google way too much…..
http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/158...d-on-an-xr400/
That very short thread only offers that the 80’s design had the flaw?
You would be a good person to look at the X-5 and see if the engine they are using is the 80’s design or the revised design.

Re: The rummored Shineray X5 is coming
It seems that it is not a coincidence - an acquaintance of mine, last winter bought dead 250 R. One of the issues is a cracked head.
We can only hope that people in Shineray are aware of this problem.
Should we ask them?

Re: The rummored Shineray X5 is coming
Somebody's got to start holding these companies to account. Yes, ask them. Do it by email, in Chinese and English, and post a copy of the email you send here in MCM. If and when they answer, post the answer. If they don't answer, post after a reasonable time that they didn't.
It may come to nothing, but MCM is a global forum and I'm guessing there's got to be somebody at the company who googles "shineray" from time to time.
it's only fair to give them a chance.
cheers!

Apparently you guys don't read Chinese.
3000 kuai is the deposit (定金)for reserving a X5 from the said Taobao site. I hope this clears up the issue.
Cheers!

I don't.
And online translator does not help - instead "product details", you get the "baby details".
As if I want to buy baby, and not some other goods... :lol8:

Re: The rummored Shineray X5 is coming
If your email is not requesting wholesale prices and your not an established distribution partner, they are not likely to respond.
Reviewing that engine design would be the responsibility of all that intend on distributing it, that research would have to be done in part at the Shineray factory and in person.
As for the engine, the Honda RFVC 400cc had a revision after its previous version was retired in 1996. The previous line of RFVC engines all ended in 1996 and likely the major issues of cracked heads was resolved or at least alleviated within the revisions? The second generation went on to 2004 and still goes on in the 650 today. Seems that the 200ccc was one of the worst and 250 and 400cc also shared a propensity for heads to crack, not sure if that went on with the revision but suspect it was a reason for a revision?
The question about the engine can only be resolved by looking at it close up and also it would be wise to check to see if Honda has any patents on the 1996-2004 engine that it may violate, before committing to distributing them.
I believe that the bike is being marketed as a “Rally Bike” because it is not yet in the catalog of motorcycles that can be plated for street use in China, when and if it ever is then it be best to actually see it listed there before purchasing one and assuming it can be plated legally.

Re: The rummored Shineray X5 is coming
ooooo I will be watching this thread. I was looking at getting the RR150 for around 13000rmb, but if the engine doesn't have a tendancy to break, and it's platable (wont be in my city center 150cc max, but perhaps I can store it at my school apartment on the edge of the city and enjoy it for mountain trails), I may just hold of a purchase until summer roles round again and enjoy a bigger bike =D
Edit: here's an X5 listed for about 25k rmb

A year later and 10 pages in this thread....same old Shineray vaporware. How long does it take to rip off someone else's ideas and bring a new model to market? Almost as pathetic as QingQi.
Cheers!

Re: The rummored Shineray X5 is coming
Kougar 400R, as an internet image search, brings up images that are nearly all unrelated images hosted on visor downs server, its as if Visor down used the article and Kouger 400R to bring back traffic to their site. Not a single images of the bike as a Kouger 400R links back to the manufacturer or any related sites? If anyone is promoting a model they might want to consider internet traffic and in that consider how people search for images and then go to the site that hosts the image file, a duh. The Chinese are some really dumb smart people, they do not take good pictures and rarely ever insure that the images are on html tagged pages on a server that can get people to an agent selling the model. Guess Google was not in China long enough for them to figure out how the internet really works?
A name is something more then that, its actually a tag that can be easily identified and it can draw in traffic and in that generate interest and in that sales. If you are real smart the tagged image directs you right to a dealer selling them, even better one that is closest to you….my ISP does have a map coordinate, what is the purpose of advanced technology if it is not used?
In the future the use of a model name on a tagged website will or could be negotiated contractually, we call it a tradmark and using the name of anything or what you name it more then something you come up with on the shitter.

Now almost November. Has nobody bought one yet? Maybe they are only an urban legend, a myth, a wives' tale, a carrot. How about a firm price.

Re: The rummored Shineray X5 is coming
The goal of emissions regulations is that of burning the fuel to a stoichiometric ratio, that is the point were all the oxygen is ignited and then the results are a minimal of unspent fuel in the form of byproducts. The simple carburetor cannot adjust to changes in the environment, it cannot adjust the mixture when the temperature falls or the humidity goes up. These variables alter the content of oxygen in a set volume of air. That is why the EFI has an oxygen sensor it is seeking a stoichiometric value, by measuring the exhaust content for unspent oxygen. It reads that and meters the fuel to match the oxygen level to ensure a complete burn.
What is unspent as in byproducts, the unspent fuel, can be collected in a catalytic device, beyond that are the tail pipe emissions, the bigger the engine the stricter the levels in most countries. Many also require the test be done on the real roads and in varying ridding conditions, they call them Urban loops and Rural loops.
Those that cannot get it corect prove something, they prove that they do not employee engineers that are talented enough and that can actually engineer, based on real actual numbers and relative laws of physics and chemistry.
The term lean and rich is actually related to the oxygen, the amount of oxygen in air, though constant, changes as air can be dense or thin. The amount of fuel atomized as a ratio to the air coming in and its content of oxygen. The amount of fuel metered in with consideration to that and other variables like speed as in RPM of the engine and also the temperature of the engine. If the air is rich in oxygen then it need more fuel, if the air is lean of oxygen it needs less fuel.
The engine can be set to meet emissions and then perform poorly, then engineers would get into the combustion chamber or other aspect of the actual engine design, timing and other things all are related.
I wonder what the emissions are of the carbureted version of the 400, it may not meet emission in some markets either, these companies are having application in the USA checked and being found to have submitted false information.
A lot of people do not want to deal with them because that can bring about losses, if a certificate gets pulled then the vehicle and all that bought them cannot sell or register them either. The later really has no enforcement and typically can be registered if not new, but if new they cannot be legally registered and titled for road use and in some states even for off road use.
There are levels or tiers and typically the regulations on the smaller engines are more lax, as not to discourage new entrant into the market, the larger engines have stricter emissions, in the USA it is for over 280cc and under 280cc as there are only two tiers. The USA EPA does not require real road testing only lab testing that simulates the road use.
The Euro standards are stricter then the USA and the same as in china, however china requires the real road use averages in its testing. the Chinese standard is the strictest in existence.
Some vehicles that have over 150cc can meet the raw number for emissions levels in china, but may not meet them on the road, particularly if being tested in hot humid zones, then that same carburetor vehicle may do well in a cool dry climate? So they by default may not be able to attain the level in loops, simply because the carburetors are not able to adjust to changes in the environment. The over 150cc may be required to demonstrate a certain emissions under a variety of driving conditions, the emissions are never consistent they rise and fall based on variables.

Re: The rummored Shineray X5 is coming
If they made a bigger fuel tank for the X2 i would get that, so i am waiting to see if the X5 is as good and emission ready as they say, if not then who knows

Re: The rummored Shineray X5 is coming
Is it possible to buy that bike in China and get it plated?
-
Re: The rummored Shineray X5 is coming
No I am pretty sure that only the Honda race team gets access to their Rally bikes. These day they likely keep them in a vault with infrared beams crossing back and fourth, so do not get any ideas.
The Shineray does not look like a rally bike, it looks like a adventure/commuter bike.
-
Re: The rummored Shineray X5 is coming
You're right, so I don't know how it could have done so well in the TAK rally as they claim, (compression too low for any serious power, but will make reliability better) never-the-less it is the only big dual sport China has to offer. And with those tires it sure looks like a street bike. They wouldn't work at all in the mud or sand. I emailed the factory asking about a release date but still no reply.
