Re: Jialing JH600B Sidecar
Dear Aggie,
Here's the Barkbusters link. The owner is a guy called Matt Phillpott, and I'll PM you his email.
As for those handguards, called barkbusters down under, I'd like to hear from TB-Racing about how they'd hold up in a drop or a crash, since, as Zorge noted, they do not have a clamp on the interior end. Not an issue on a sidecar bike that I hope you never plan to drop, but I drop my JH600 "all the time," and each time I'm thankful that my guards -- shanzhai Acerbis from Taoabao as noted in the Hand Job thread -- are anchored at both ends.:wheelchair:
cheers

Re: Jialing JH600B Sidecar
Thanks for the help from all.
Attached below are a couple of pics of what I have. You can see I also have the Rox Risers and RAM GPS holder that add complexity but both are VERY comfortable for me to use.
When I stand on the pegs with the handle bars higher, I feel like I am on my XR650L and I am most comfortable there. Sorry but I am an old dirt biker and just do not like the crotch rocket position. I do not hold any animosity towards those that like crotch rockets or Harley lounge chair riding positions, I actually am happy for more bikers to get whatever variation of the motorcycle bug they get as long as they get it and it helps wake up China to the rich countryside riding that they presently make difficult to enjoy for some asinine reason.
Sorry for the soapbox rant. I am OK with 600RMB to 1000RMB for something worthwhile like a Barkbuster or something else. Spending time to fuck around with shit that does not work costs more in expensive red wine to calm me down than any taobao cheap savings that does not work is worth. I already have a set that wasted my time. I know TIC, but I refuse to roll over :gun_bandana:

Re: Jialing JH600B Sidecar
Dear Aggie,
Your bars have plenty of room for interior clamps. The Barkbuster Storm pictured in the first page of the Hand Job thread is ideal for the JH, and the S4 model will work for the JH600. Two years ago Matt offered to ship them to me in Shanghai for about A$150 including shipping, a price that gave me traction control issues. As TB-Racing points out, the Storm S4 is available at TwistedThrottle.com for US$100-130 depending on mounting kit.
Have a look at this Taobao search and you'll see the many choices of shanzhai (fake) Acerbis handguards and even a couple of genuine sets for about 10x the price. I'm not endorsing domestic or import. Just sayin'...
cheers!

Re: Jialing JH600B Sidecar
Thanks Jeff,
Just to clarify, My issue has been that it seems I need to find a clamp that worked on the taper. All the clamps I have seen are straight holes. I have seen a neat design using the triple clamp bolt holes but I have no idea if they would work on the Jialing. As always, thanks to all for sage advice.

G'Day,
As the Jialing JH600B-A sidecar doesn't have a main stand added a small 2to. hydraulic SATA carjack to my tool kit, making changing wheels a lot easier while on the road in the middle of nowhere......

Hey Jialing owners, I need the address for the Jialing service center near Nanjing. The old girl needs a full tune up. The local Shanghai rep. does want to work on my bike....

This bike shop in Pudong had two JL sidecar on the showroom floor a few weeks back, not sure they do service work but worthwhile to check with them before heading into another province.

Re: Jialing JH600B Sidecar
I am sorry to say there is not a Jialing service center in Nanjing that I have found and I have looked for 2 years. I use the Nanjing Benelli shop mechanic and when he cannot handle it, we bring in the Jialing expert from Hefei in Anhui. The guy from Hefei will come to you and is very good. I agree with TB to try and stay local but if that does not work, you might try and get the guy from Hefei to come to you like I do. My 2 quai

Re: Jialing JH600B Sidecar
Here's a RTW ADVrider thread of a couple (Kiwi and Chinese) "Two Moto Kiwis Arctic To Antarctic... on two DR650's where the Barkbusters get a real serious workout...
It is more a in depth read though, but worth every minute, of it IMO. The Barkbusters on Ellen's bike come up trumps...

Depends what needs to be done, and the budget available, but I might help you out.
Shoot me a PM with what you need if interested.
Guess some members here can testify on my technical (in)capabilities :naughty:

Ironic that since Changzhou is another city with a motorcycle ban. TIC!

G'Day,
A mate heavily involved in motorbike (thumpers) endurance desert races and rally events mailed a Xmas present, he reckons the Ballistic lightweight battery would be a great addition to the JL sidecar and eliminates the lead acid battery. The Ballistic battery is super-light and tiny..... http://www.ballisticparts.com

Re: Jialing JH600B Sidecar
Wow that is one small looking battery. How did it go receiving that in Ch!na, what with all the clamp downs on nearly everything coming into the country and Customs wanting their piece of the action. Items that one could get delivered into Ch!na once upon a time, without any interference seem to now be hit with taxes/duties. Anyway nice looking website with a few interesting items.

Easy as, postal service delivered the parcel incl. battery to our door.
Back to JL sidecars, anyone replaced the Chinese chain with a high quality one like RK, DID, Renthal, etc. and knows the length (chain links). Thanks for any info....

Dear TB,
Greetings from snow-coated Shanghai. Yes, it snowed last night, though as of mid-morning "snow-coated" is an exaggeration; it's sunny and 0C so it's mostly melted off, but still damned cold for an unheated city.
As for your question about quality chains, you know where to turn for the gold standard in these matters: Pfaelzer's My JH600 thread.
I'm only guessing that the chain length is the same for the JH600 and the JH600B, and of course if Pfaelzer has changed sprockets the link count could change too. I'm pretty sure Motokai has replaced his factory chain, but not sure what he used. Milton too.
cheers!

Yeah, seen it on our factory remote security cams on the phone.

Somehow I think the chains are a different length as the solo / sidecar bikes are geared differently and 4 forward / 1 reverse vs. 5 forward, got no comparison down here on the island in the moment.

Re: Jialing JH600B Sidecar
I've got the exploded diagrams of parts for both versions if you'd like me to email them to you.

Great, thanks very much and of course the JL sidecar diagram is preferred via email and will look into good quality brand chains once back up North.

Emailed, but the zipped file is a hefty 13 meg. Let me know if you don't get it.

Thanks! Got the file via email.
Now, can anyone confirm the JL seat height for the solo / sidecar, assuming they are the same and seats are identical as well...?!

Re: Jialing JH600B Sidecar
I have used both Motul chain wax lube and Bel-Ray so far on all my bikes but spray cans get pretty messy sometimes.
Had a few Motul C5 Chain Paste 150ml/143g brought over from overseas and the chain paste is in a toothpaste like tube with a brush applicator. Uncap, unscrew the brush, remove a foil seal on the tube end, refit the brush, squeeze and "paint" it on. Seems to work really well. Easy to apply to both top and bottom of the chain and use the brush to work the lube onto the chain, fling resistant and no mess.

Re: Jialing JH600B Sidecar
I used the same 2" risers as specified by Rox for a BMW R1200GSA. However, I have seen two separate handle bar diameter used on the Jialing JH600. Mine are the larger "pro-taper" syle but I think you have the smaller diameter straight bars on the side car. Just order the correct bar diameter. The 2" riser was somewhat limited as to how far back you can pull the bars due to the cables length. (at least on my 2010 bike) I like to stand on the pegs when I hit the rough stuff so I mainly wanted the bars higher for that reason. I only had to rotate the front brake line down and I have a perfect bar position for me. YMMV if you want the bars to come back towards you a lot.
I tried to upload some pictures but am being denied for some reason but if you go to my "First JH600 in Nanjing" you can see the pictures of my set up.

Herewith confirmed, the handlebars are different on Jialing JH600 sidecars and solo bikes, the solo (2-wheel) bikes have variable dia. "Pro-Taper" style handlebars (silver) and the sidecars straight 22mm dia. handlebars (green)....
