Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Greatings all. I bought a DF250 Bobber and it arrived last Thursday. Finally got it running today as I needed to fabricate a new shift linkage rod that broke in transit. I work in the M/C industry and saw the Dongfang bikes at a recent tradeshow. The bobber really impressed me. I really loved the Cleveland Scooter Works little cafe racers, but their prices were silly-high.
I ordered the DF for a pitbike to replace the Kikker Hardknock I had last year. I'm a big boy: 6'-2" - 300+ lbs, so I needed a little more grunt than a Ruckus or Vespa-clone. I really liked the idea of a hydraulic frontend, disk brakes F&R, and the proper road lighting.
I was told by the importer that the engines are from Lifan, and I know there is a strong aftermarket in Japan for that engine. Just giving it a quick look-over, I see some areas that can be addressed in the aftermarker: Removal kit for the secondary air injection system (reduce the popping on decelleration and clean-up the looks), free-flow exhaust pipe without the cat, bigger carb and lord-o-mighty... a new padded seat.
When I look at this bike, I don't see the old skool bobber. I see something rather different and I will be pursueing that vision with some custom touches in the coming weeks or months. Of course I'll post my project photos here.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Bella,
Welcome to MCM.I have the same bike with about 700 miles on it and no problems. No big deal to remove the SAI. Just make a plate out of 1/8" aluminum using the gasket as a pattern.

I put a 100 main jet in place of the stock 88. Stuck a washer under the needle for mid range,
I running a 33 tooth rear in place of the stock 45. I might have gone too far but so for so good.

Then I adjusted the valves and did a little bit of tuning up on the bike to try to get it to run correctly. I warmed up nicely but as I went to go around the parking lot a few times the keeps getting blow back through the carb then stalls, now this is very dangerous! Going about 10 mph the bike stalls and locks up the wheel without warning. This thing sounds and feels like its running perfectly then BAM stall and lock up this time no blow back or anything. What makes to so very dangerous is that if I were going just 5 mph faster I will guarantee the bike would have low sided. If this were to happen when going 30+ well you can understand that wont feel good =(
When a motorcycle stalls it should still just engine break to slow down and not lock the entire motor up, this is not the case! The second this motor stalls it jams the counter shaft and thats a BIG issue... I am going to have a word with the guys from countyimports on Monday and figure all this out. Also neutral is nearly impossible to get into when the bike is running. I think I got a bum motor =(
Aboshi,
Sounds bad.
If you pull in the clutch when this lockup occurs is the rear wheel still locked up? This would help determine if it is a transmission problem or an engine problem.
In other words, if it is still locked up with the clutch lever pulled in then I think it would be a transmission problem.
I don't see how adjusting the valves would have anything to do with it but did this happen before you adjusted the valves?
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I went to a Bike Night yesterday on the DF and was overwhelmed with questions. Finally had to sneak off so I could look at the other bikes.
Is it a old Triumph? Did you build the frame yourself? How much did it cost? Where can I get one?

Those Brat-bike handlebars and plastic grips had to go. I tossed on a set of black low-rise handlebars with white Beston Grand Tourismo hand grips just so I could log some miles on it before tearing it apart. The mirrors are Napoleon sportbike mirrors.

russellsjr,
Nope don't know anything about http://www.extrememotorsales.com/
Do they have the bobber in stock or are they a drop shipper like I bought mine from?
It would be nice to be able to go to the dealer and raise hell if you had problems but is it $700 nice? Guess it depends on how good the dealer is and how good you are at wrenching. I would not buy a China bike if I was not an experienced motorcycle rider and mechanic. Now if you had a good dealer that would stand maintain the bike that is a different story.
I'd go talk to them since you are not too far away and size up the operation. I paid $2199 at http://www.extremescooters.biz/250cc...r-chopper.aspx delivered to my house in FL.
Let us know what you think of Extreme Motor Sales.

Bella,
She is looking good with the flat black and your new bars/mirrors. You have big modding plans?
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
The MSO finely came in today but I'm not gonna reg the bike I just started a charge back process because thare are some issues with the bike and countyimports is giving me the run around... It started with the clutch perch and they have still yet to send out a new one or even have me send the old one to the "manufacture" (A.K.A. Scooterdepot) There is an issue with the gears where it will not go into neutral unless the motor is off (yes everything has been adjusted) Also the motor is breaking up under load even with rejetting, new plug, cdi and all...
I just think there is an issue with this motor it could be losing compression but I wont speculate because they don't even have the compression specs in the manual. So what it all came down to for me to start the charge back is countyimports does not give a shit if the bike runs or not and will not honor the warranty. I told them to come pick up the bike and they can put a new on a truck and exchange it, this is where this chick on the other line starts to argue with me and tells me to go have it fixed by a mechanic, so I said sure if your paying for it!
She says theres no way they will pay for it and i have to foot the bill on finding out why they sent me a bike with a shit motor... So I told he look you can come pick the bike up or not fact is I filed a claim with the BBB and have already contacted the CC Co. And they have already refunded my $ and are investigating them as we speak =)
She tells me she will fight it tooth and nail then goes I'll call you back! She hung up and I pretty much said to myself whatever...
She winds up calling me back and going well come pick the bike up but its going to cost you $300 and were going to charge you a 25% restocking fee, this is about where I blew up lol
I said go EFF yourself the bike is in the create come pick it up charge back has been filed enjoy and then I hung up :P
I get an emal from them today asking me to send them a mechanic diagnostic... I'm not gonna pay for shit for them, they can come pick this POS up and do all the diags they want themselves. Looks like I am going to have to run over to pit motors and pick up a heist some time this week =)
