Re: Urgent Help Needed- YBR125K or YBR250?
If you really are planning on doing some off-roading with a luggage or two up then I will say....forget about YBR250 or buyit and replace the rear shock. Now Im seriously thinking of getting the one prince found on ebay. Pricey but if I was planning to ride around China again Id buy it in an instant. The manual says max load is 155kg, my setup was 125kg and it would bottom out even on a normal road (just slightly.....wavy) off road I needed to ride really slowly and kept coursing that I didnt buy dual sport bike.
In defense tho, recently I took my girl on a few day trip. She is about 45kg, Im heavier now so 80kg + rack and bags (no boxes) 15-20kg and it was much better. I didnt need to slow down to 20km/h to stop it from bottoming out. Actually it only happened few times. I was positively surprised. I reckon it has something to do with the distribution of the weight, maybe my boxes are to far at the back but it doesnt change the fact that suspension on this bike sucks.
Forks are not great either, I asked my dealers mechanic to change the oil twice but they said no need, which makes me wonder that they probably never done that before so dont want to screw anything up. There are no better mechanics in my little town so Im gutted cos I dont have the skills to do this by myself.I know it cant be difficult but Ive never even seen fork oil being changed so Im not very confident here

will google what are these and then will try to taobao
As for the rack, this on looks good cos it has the support at the front
p.s. Doc, this rear shock is a stock one I think

Hi Modron
Great rack you found for 1 up, but not sure if Mrs foxy would be happy ??? from what i can see is with the 250 and the mono shock it just don't have another travel in the shock so you realy need to find a good gas shock .

Re: Urgent Help Needed- YBR125K or YBR250?
Preload space can be anything to take up some space , a short piece of tube , washers or even coins. It's a down and dirty way to compensate for soft springs. Dampening is controlled by the oil so thicker/heavier oil ..
Re: Urgent Help Needed- YBR125K or YBR250?
But the ybr 250 rear shock has no spring adjustment and no dampening adjustment , you cant take it apart so you cant change the oil so not much can be done there. Except find one that has at least got some adjustment for the spring and preferably also has some dampening adjustment .

Re: Urgent Help Needed- YBR125K or YBR250?
The one that prince posted would be great . If it didn't cost over £ 400..lol
Re: Urgent Help Needed- YBR125K or YBR250?
Thanks for the info Zhu, I guess one does not need to buy those preload spacers ;) DIY
Well, the stock exhaust its adjustable. You can adjust the spring. I tightened my spring just a bit (not all the way) to make it more luggage friendly and it did. Maybe if you harden it all the way it will get better.
As for the rack, i have this one and my girl does not complain about lack of space but she is only like 160cm

Re: Urgent Help Needed- YBR125K or YBR250?
This info is all great, cheers.
I'm on the train down to Yuxi now to check out the bike and most likely order one of my own. Does any one know what the deal is with registering a bike in a different city to the one you live in? Prince from what you've said this shouldn't be an issue.. I spoke to the shop last night, the lady seemed to be trying to fob the job off onto me, she said it's very easy, just need to go to the Vehicle Management Office back here in Kunming with a few documents. I don't believe a word of it though, I'm going to make it a strict condition of purchase that they either register for me in Yuxi or find a way of helping me register in Kunming. :deal:
I'll check out the back shock today, what's the consensus on the one biker doc posted? Thanks for all those links doc, will come in handy after the purchase, appreciated. Ill also check out the motorcycle accessories markets, there's at least two large ones in Kunming that I know of. Does anyone use 牛摩网 for purchases?
Modron my girlfriend is about 170cm but I guess that shouldn't make too much difference. I read your posts about your big China trip, where did you pick up those luggage boxes that made it safely through the river? From the pics tho maybe they were a bit large for two up, have you since changed them to the one you posted or is it the same?
Prince those eBay shocks look good but definitely pricey, I'm sure there must be a half-decent option on the Chinese market. Cheers for those rain cover recommendations, you don't find them a pain to ride with? Not the coolest look but I'll take that over water-filled boots any day haa
Will report back after today's outing, have yourselves all a fabulous weekend :icon10:

registering a bike in a different city
In your name or chinese name ????
The YBR in Hainan was put into my wife name whos I.D. card is from Harbin ??? but the dealer
done it .
Now my TR in Longkou is in my name got a agent to do it and was a lot harder to complete
But please remember what is easy or hard for one person could not be the same for other people
but it can be done just need to stick at it and dont give up.
I am sure someone must make some good gas shocks for the 250 you just need to find them on Taobao and will cost a lot less then Ebay .
Rain cover ???? i put it to the test in Hainan, which can have loads of rain at times heheh
on a small bike like mine or the 250cc yes works very well i like the clear plastic screen so all the lights and indicators cane be seen and you can still see the dash, hands keep dry as well but not a type of cover you would want to use at high speeds lol but when its raining would you want to go fast ??? and at 30 RMB but order the XXXXL
