I learned the hard way...
I though your issue with the DF was not being able to register it in CT?
I'm happy with my DF. Just ordered two more Chinese bikes.

there are hardtail kits, < 300$, you now have a complete bike for a fraction of the price...
either way you will need to know how to weld... so i cant see the the justification...
I'd like to find a Savage for $500. But I'd leave it stock. Be a good one way bike to ride to the Panama Canal like I did with a 1982 GL500 which I sold there and flew home.
BTW, I know how to weld, no big deal.
Don't need to justify my fooling with motorcycles.

if a 650 single is what you want, then buy it and hardtail that...
been down this road

I been through it all before.I currently own 7 bikes and most are modified, or on the bench being rebuilt or modified. It's just something I'd do. If I came across a cheap one with a blown engine, then I'd do it.I'm not going to drop the cash on a running bike for a test of talent. If my oldest son keeps his word, and gets a job since obtaining his license, then I may buy a new DF for him to learn on.I love the boy but he's 17 out of school and lazy.

If you don't mind my asking, what did you pick up this time, and are/do you have posts about them?

ya which 2 did you order.
anyway, didn't say a df isn't worth anything, but the issue in question was biting one to swap out the motor with something better.
that said, if you want a ready to go hard tail bobber and are not interested in modifying anything, then df is the way to go. it's hardly a project if you don't want it to be.
but if you want a rolling hard tail chasis, 2500$ is insane.
i think complaints about the df are largely unwarranted, unwarranted until you need new set of 15$ rods...
then ur shit out of luck AFAIK

Hope everyone had a good Labor day. I wish i could have rode this weekend, but it was on and off rain. Hoping to get back on by wednesday, been taking the van to work.Sucks, I like riding so much, but the weather has been fickle.
Have not had a chance to take pics of the bike because of the weather either, want to show y'all the new tank look.
Also sitting on 11,833 miles right now. pretty cool.
