LOL, yes I know that. Our NGK plugs and our spark plug wire don't use a threaded adapter like some plugs that screw over the threads of the spark plug.
Our wire "snaps" over those threads. The Harbor Freight "tool" has the adapter machined on the bulb side of it. It's too large to fit into our plug wire.
Now let me ask you guys, is the spark wire removeable at the coil end? Seems tight, I don't want to yank it out and then be looking for a coil. If I can remove it, I'll make an adapter for it.

ah sure enough , perhaps they carry the unbulbed version of the tester to ?
dont think the wire can be removed from the coil
u might be able to attack the tester with pliers (to squish threaded plug side tight) and a pocket knife (to wittle wire side addapter to fit) : \ , I am peticularly adapt at mgyvering tool to fit my needs

LOL, around here we talk other people into holding the sparkplug while we crank the shit out of the motor... you can usually tell if it has a good spark by how fast they let go of it..... LOL

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Sure is quite around here these days... I've been reading Gardo's thread at http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/showthread.php?3054-CCW-tha-Heist/page1 Lots of good things going on there. I just finished all 125 pages. I wonder how different these two bikes are, and will some of these mods work on our bikes.

the CCW , from what I have been reading tonight among the early posts is the same bike , the difference lies in the Dealer support and modifications/options offered. In some respects the CCW bikes are better... dealer support, available mods but in other respects the DF is better.... lower price , lower price and lower price, I would bet that most of the mods they have would work on a DF as well. I really like the way each member of this thread has personalized their DF, no two are exactly alike. Each bike exhibits their owners personalities and aesthetics.

I agree. I'm really interested in what Tom Weaver is doing with carbs and heads. I wonder if these heads are interchangeable? Already thinking about swapping carbs...

I did speak to weaver about this with the DF bikes. He stated that he would be glad to assist in any way, just need one of you guys to call him and will be willing to send out your head and carb.
Bobber250, at first glance the bikes would be the same but the CCW motor, though built by Lifan vs the Zogshen motor in the DF, has been retooled to CCW's specs. it has a beefier crank that actually sets the displacement to 239cc and a counter balancer in the front of the lower on the case as well as a full functioning kick spline plus can take up to a 17T front sprocket. the DF has a larger frame, better chain with the 530HD
CCW owns the CARB and EPA Certs for each individual bikes. Sunny at the Indy show could not provide the EPA cert for the bikes at the Indy show, I was there.
On the more personal note I owned a DF before I had to send it back and was only abe to put some miles on it, I prefer the ride on the Heist vs the DF. It was smoother and more responsive on the unit I road. I think that it had to do with a proper PDI on the Heist.
I was part of the build process on my Heist. I also feel that the wheels and spokes on the Heist are a better quality The DF has the tubeless tires which are nice.
there are pros and cons to both bikes However they are not the same bike.
I have just under 8000 miles on my Heist and will be riding my bike down to Daytona FL That's under 1200 miles one way for me. Leaving outside Manhattan on Friday then heading down, staying off 95S till after the Ches Bay bridge Tunnel sticking to the coast and enjoying the ride then cutting right and hitting 95S to Port Orange.
i will be tracking the ride, as well as video blogging the whole trip and more importantly how the Widow handles. Looking at around 3000 miles in 7 days
It will all be on www.ccwthariders.com
ride safe and ride happy guys

In the event that a DF would need a replacement motor, could the CCW motor be installed ? I am curious....the 229 is a little weak out of the box. I almost purchased a CCW bike but the price turned me off. I love the looks and the style but in the end, it all boiled down to the money. It is nice to have dealer support and easy access to parts locally and one day I may regret it, but for now I am content.
Gardo, I read your early posts when you got your DF, why did you send it back?
I took a short ride on my DF last weekend, I mailed out the check to pay it off Friday night ... so I was riding with a big old "cheese eatin' " grin the whole time... funny thing , it rides better now... LOL
Thanks for posting guys... it was getting a little lonely around here... Gardo, I would like to see a pic of your bike , where you got them stashed?

2 issues actually one the Bike is not certified in NJ which was the big issue and main reason I sent it back. i had an issue where the motor reved and locked wheelying me up and I went down with the bike hard. I would have worked through that issue with scooter depot but they were useless. When i tried for a third time to get it regged and wasted 4 hrs of my life, at this time the bike was still listed as 49 state legal. I made them take it back. After the run around from scooter depot I did a charge back. Went the next day to check out the CCW Heist the next day and tested it out, fell in love and the rest is history.
What i went through may have been an isolated outside the fact that there are 4 states possibly 5 that wont reg the bike CA, NJ, PA, and CT oly NJ and CA are currently listed but met a guy online in PA that couldnt get the bike regged.
Sean, I have pics all over the internet man LoL

Thanks Gardo. I need to think some more on the head job, lol. But was really considering at least a carb swap.
I would also like to figure out how to adapt the seat air bag to the Dongfang too.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Thats a sharp looking ride Gardo. I am still wondering if the engine would fit....
I was a little concerned about getting the DF registered in Tennessee... but I was worried about nothing, it took 20 minutes, and of those 20 minutes, 15minutes was waiting for a fax from Guardian Finance. I did have a problem with Killer Motorsports where I bought the bike. Everybody there is as sweet as honey up until you get them paid and then they treat you like the "great unwashed" , I had to wait over a month for them to ship the bike , that was my biggest issue and they just either lied or did not know diddly about the product they were selling. Their website proclaimed that they performed the PDI before the bike shipped and there was a tool kit . The also claimed the bike was a 250cc that would achieve 70-75 mph , yadda yadda yadda.... I had to perform the PDI myself, they never sent me the tool kit and as you mentioned the motor is a 229cc. So that experience left a bad taste, but once I got it unwrapped and off the crate.... I could not part with it. I can honestly say that dealer support has premium value ... I'm just too cheap to spend the money... LOL
I am going to take time tonight and look at the thread Alleykat mentioned, I want to start with the mods this spring and I need some ideas. Most of what I want to do is cosmetic... the first mechanical mod will be the 35 tooth sprocket.

This would be an idea if Weaver's Big Bore kit comes to past. I was reading maybe 300cc?? That would justify the engine upgrade in my book!

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
A Correction on the DF chain size : It is only a standard non-O ring 520.
Has anyone considered a Honda rebel 250 used engine ? I almost went that route, until I found My V Star.
This guy has a good deal for someone looking to buy a DF 250. LOL ! http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/sh...ot-bobber-quot (as long as you do not live in one of the 5 states that Gardo mentioned).
Sorry about the "cheap plug". I could not resist.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Mailman, that is one heck of a deal, I wish I had some extra cash.... of course the wife was not too keen on me getting the first one, I would probably have to sleep in the garage if another one showed up....
I will tell everyone I know .
Could you possibly register the bike out of state and then transfer it into Connecticut? I was planning on doing just that myself if I had problems in Tennessee. I think that Sunny needs to be taken to task for selling and advertising a product that is 49 state legal which obviously is not.

Hey guys, my neutral lamp stays on all the time no matter what gear i'm in. I went 30 miles today, bike runs good and no problems shifting through the gears. Any ideas in whats up with the light?

I considered that, as I have a cousin in VT., but they do not title bikes that are under 300cc.

sounds like the sensor/switch is stuck closed. Don't know where it would be, possibly in the transmission/clutch housing.... the light not working properly could be a serious pain in the butt. You will have to be extra vigilant making sure you are in neutral before releasing the clutch all the way. My friend dumped her bike at a red light because of a similar issue. Thought it was in neutral and just dumped the clutch and whammo... I think she only hurt her pride, but it could have been bad.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Has anyone figured out how to make the headlight switch work as it was designed to on the world market. I hate to have a perfectly good switch that wont do anything.... I have looked at the wiring diagram in the Owners Manual but it may well be written in Greek as I can't make heads or tails from it. I would wade into it blind and start tracing the wires but was hoping some one could tell me to look for a specific wire in a specific spot and so on....
I know that I ought not tamper with it as the government is trying to protect me from myself....( if they really cared for my safety, they wouldn't have let me purchase the bike in the first place... but they don't on the first item and didn't stop me on the second, so tell me how to tamper with the switch so I can return it to the way it was designed...LOL)
Keep it shiny side up....

Mailman, with that fix (1318), I now have parking light with the switch far right or center & full headlamp far left. No off position.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Hey guys,i have an issue I think needs to be added to this thread.
I have had two clutch cables snap on me in the last 2 months.I do not know why,I have play in the handle,I have the adjustments good ..I think, but I cannot seem to keep a cable from snapping off at the nipple on the handle.
I contacted scooter depot for the first one, they sent me a replacement as it was still under warranty..but the 6 month warranty has expired and now it looks like a $70 price tag for the new cable.I am hesitant on buying it as i am concerned that it will just snapp again.
Cable length is roughly 53 inches long..I think I need to be schooled in what I need to do to fix this issue.Should I go with a slightly longer cable...I found one that is 54 1/2 inches..with a 3 1/2 inch play area.I figure I need to rout it a little different to give it that slight tension it would need. I do not know..this is all new to me and i do not want to buy something I cannot use.
Anyone know anything on clutch cables, and perhaps what I need to do?Also any place online I can purchase one from...seeing as how there is no one in Houston that carries anything for these bikes.
HELP...I AM IN THE WEEDS HERE. thanks ahead.

Have you checked the lever and mount for burrs or sharp edges that maybe causing damage to the cable end?

Check for a triumph cable same lenght, they made tough shit.
That is weird, did you have a situation when it broke again?
Cleveland Motor Works, makes the Heist (DF UP GRADE) call them AM for your cable

Cleveland CycleWerks and they are the manufacturer but PIT Motors LTD handles all the distribution and parts. Your best bet is to call WeaverRides he can get you a cable, hell he makes cables

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Bowtie,
With the exception considered for shoddy workmanship, I am thinking that maybe your clutch cable could be "bottoming out" so to speak. I am not sure how to describe it... but I will try, if you depress the clutch and your cable pulls the clutch to its farthest limit and stops. The resulting pressure on the end of the cable could possibly cause the cable to snap or the end to break off. I would think that the cable itself would have some "stretch" to it but the ends wouldn't. I will further guess that if the end of the cable is breaking off , it could be breaking because that is the highest point of stress where the clutch cable is "levered" when you depress the clutch. If I were in your position, I would first check if the clutch assembly has any more movement beyond the stroke of the clutch lever after installing a new cable. If the clutch is not bottoming out, then all my guesses go out the door and you will be back to square one.
The other possibility is that there was a bad run of the clutch cables at the manufacturer that slipped past Quality Control. After the second replacement, I would change vendors as suggested to see if you can get a tougher or better quality replacement part.
I hope my thoughts are helpful to you in finding and fixing the problem. Sometimes a wrong answer can lead you to the right one.
Good luck
