In 2008 Mahindra purchased a majority of Honda's other partner in India Kinetic Scooters.
Kinetics only sold two stroke scooters, they were not as successful as Hero, Hero's success came in their establishing an extensive dealer network, in every town and village and affordable to nearly everyone.
Hero before its venture with Honda was a manufacturer of bicycles, they had a dealer network in that and offered up the motorbikes within it.
"Kinetic" is/was making few models of mopeds for Slovene "Tomos".
Damn, this doesn't mean enything for everyone outside ex-YU, but for me, this is interesting fact.
Hi Guys, I'm from Bangalore,India. Nice to see so much noise regarding Hero. Where in India it's not enthusiasts bike, it's more of a commuter only company. They're really slow when it comes to releasing higher hp bikes. :)
Don't be shy. Feel free to contribute.
Hero is slow to release any new bikes, the break up with EBR ground the development to a halt, they seem to be getting back to it.
Their 250 is supposed to be coming to the market in 2016.

It seems there is still some work going on between EBR and Hero. The research and development arm of EBR was sold to Hero, so it seems? The end result of the settlement is Hero having three models in development that seem to be pragmatic with consideration to its domestic market in India, and some export markets as well. EBR is now taking deposits for their 1190 models 2016, those with an MSRP of $12,995.00. EBR is also stating a future model they are calling the AX, which may be a 1190 version of an adventure bike?
