That 18 will be a very tight fit. Hope it works because I could use a little higher gearing on all my clones. I left them all in North Carolina and am now in Florida for the winter riding my Kawasaki W650.Quote:

The parts arrived yesterday but dont think i will be fitting them this weekend. Was out in Wednesday and managed to slip over in a supermarket car park and fracture my wrist and finger. My right arm is now in plaster :-(

Sorry to read this, trex! A friend of my wife just did the same thing 5 days ago (she broke her wrist bowling!? when she slipped and fell) She is getting surgery...
Ouch. Hope you heal quickly. I fell hard in my driveway last weekend. I caught my toe and went down on my left wrist like a flyswatter. I didn't break anything, but it was swollen and sore for a few days. Getting old sucks.

Managed to get some disposable gloves on and get out in the garage. Fitted the 18 tooth on the front, after a bit of an altetation. The chain was slightly fouling the casing around the neutral switch. I did a bit of careful filing and removed a millimetre or three, it fits fine now. Trouble is the poor weather and my cast is stopping me trying it out. I couldnt fit the new chain yet as i couldnt find my splitter, the tool gremlins must have moved it :-(
It's amazing what you can work through with pain and broken bone implements (you--cast, me--shoulder brace) when you put your mind to it. A few painkillers, and you are back to normal!! LOL. What chain do these clones use? 420 like the pit bikes?
Yes its a 420, about 84 links.
Do you need a bigger chain for the 18 tooth? I know it is much rarer to need to cut or add size when you change a front sprocket, but then again, you have a brand new chain. I hope the weather can break for you to get a little ride :riding: , although you still have that wrist injury to deal with :eek2:
The old chain was 84 links long and was about. 5mm too short after fitting the 18 tooth. I wanted to fit a new chain as the old one was worn and running tight and slack. I was going to make the new chain the same length then take up the slack by adjusting the rear wheel.
I have to return to the hospital to have my fraactures reviewed on the 3rd of December, so am hoping the cast will come off ten. I have tried operating the controls with the cast on and can manage ok, but my wife would kill me if she caught me out on the bike. She has banned me from driving my jeep at the moment too. So i am having to get rudes or taxis to get into work at the moment.
Its dry and sunny here today so thought i would take her out for a little test run, the wife is at work all day :-)
The chain is fouling the front sprocket cover by a millimetre or two. Have filled it down as well, took it for another run but the back end felt squirmy, so have come home. Will check the rear wheel alignment tomorrow and try again, the wife is working all day tomorrow too.

Lol, you are probably right. Both sons knew i went out, one even said ' if mum finds out she'll go mad' May have to buy them take away for dinner to buy their silence.
I managed to fit the new chain this morning despite not being able to locate my splitter. Took the Lifan out for a shake down run, which became a speed run on the local by-pass. Less than ideal conditions today with a bit of a head wind and dithering car drivers. I managed to reach 56.5 mph, a slight improvement on last time with the 17 tooth sprocket. I think i need a longer stretch of road to get the best out of her, she felt as if she had a few more mph to give but it may have to wait until spring.
The other part of it is how many fewer revs the engine has to make--probably, like most Chinese enduros, there is not a tach to gauge this, but it is a consideration--slightly higher top speed + less engine stress = happier Chinabike!!
Yes its definitely running at lower revs.
What's your rear sprocket?
Also I bet your exhaust is restrictive with a cat in it.
BKACKDEATH: It has a 32 tooth rear sprocket, and yes stilk has the original exhaust with emmission controls.
That's pretty good mph, I need to get an 18 tooth for my clone also.
I run a 17/29 on 8" wheels in a z50 clone.
I GPS my bike and got 60mph and I think that's all she's got.
60 is a pretty good speed, does it feel more on 8 inch wheels. If i can get mine to cruise st 50 i would be happy.
It feels ok I'd say but I have to keep both hands on the bars or it gets a lil squirrly.
One hand off and it shakes a bit.
At that speed it feels very fast for being on a small bike.
I ride sport bikes also so this little bike is fun.
I don't want you to hurt anything else--so maybe when you have both hands and clear roads (and nicer weather, too) before testing your 50 cruising speed. My guess is you should be there, if you are hitting over 55 (with a 32 rear sprocket and stock exhaust)...Quote:

It's cheaper to replace the front sprocket than the rear.
But a smaller rear sprocket looks good on the rear, especially if you have nice rims.
I may buy an 18 tooth just to try it out, it's only $10 for one & my chain length may work
If/when I get my CT70 clone, 18 tooth is out (I would not trust my ability to file :lol8:!) Do they have a decent selection of aftermarket rear sprockets, then?
IMHO I think that the 17 is enough of a jump up from the stock 15. More speed needs more motor or a different bike.Quote:
