Since the information on Licensing (and a variety of other issues) is constantly changing I started a chinamoto wiki at Wikia to hopefully provide a place where the current state of things can be easily shown & hopefully kept up to date with useful links.
I just knocked this out this morning and know it needs more information & corrections.

If I have my license for C for Vehicles, How do I go about to taking a test for a D license from scratch. My motorbike license expired from my country of origin.
Thanks for the help.
Unfortunately they will not accept expired lic so you will have to do the driving test as well as computer. the worst part is that you will probably have to get a driving coach to be allowed to take the driving test. Easier to go back to your home counrty and reinstate your lic
Thanks man, i will check it out, and add to it if i can.
I haven't done the test from scratch, but i will be studying for it soon. I intend to help a friend get it.
I wrote a guide a while ago with some helpful information from Galen about how to do the change over, and posted a few of the needed forms on this chat group, but i'm hoping to go through the process and write another guide for the 'starting from scratch' point.
* I already have my chinese license by the way- big thank you to Galen, and the guys from this group for all the advice they provide
If there's anything i can provide, let me know.
But so you don't need to take a test at all? not even the computer test?
I didn't even know the provisional license exists.
Can you post some more information about that?
(i imagine you show your foreign license, do the translation, provide the medical test certificate, photos, residency permit and passport...fill in the form and then just hand it in?
Or is there more to it than that?
Because i have a Canadian friend for which that would really help him out. Otherwise we have to organise other ways for him to ride. ...or i get petrol for him.
Guys, for the provisional license, i found this online.
It helps if you're searching for the right things... i didn't even know there was such thing as a provisional license until yesterday

I have a Canadian friend who has his Canadian motorbike license, perhaps we can try this weekend or next and we'll let you all know who it goes
For the above link, it looks ike they have all the facilities at hte Airport (T3) Beijing, and its seems fairly simple.
Kepp you guys updated
I got it free in Chengdu shows CE1 a lot of paper work before you go to the police - same as a normal license and lasts length of stays on the visa
Then go back do it all again
