SSR responded to my question within a day, the EPA didn’t. However legally the EPA may have to and if they do not then the next step is to take that up as no response through appropriate channels.

The EPA may be required to generate and display the lists of certificated vehicles under the Freedom of Information Act and they do, however the list is not complete! I cannot rely on sales people to provide the verification to me. It is the EPA responsibility to provide the information and in its entirety. They have a responsibility to society to do that, it actually is their job.


If I was SSR I would be upset that the EPA has not updated the public information and is not listing its the Xp200/250 as certified. However that is their business, not mine.


I just want assurance/confidence from my government that when I review a list of motorcycles that are certified by the EPA for sale in the USA, that the list is complete. I am not interested in being in a scenario at a local registration office were they tell me the vehicle cannot be licensed because it is not on the EPA approved list.

Answer: Yes, Certified Highway Motorcycle Test Result posted on the EPA website http://www.epa.gov/otaq/crttst.htm covers models certified for a specific model year.

You are advised to request for a copy of EPA certificate that covers the vehicles you are interested from the OEM before buying. Also, since every EPA certified vehicle must have a Vehicle Emission Information Label placed on the vehicle, the label will further verify if the vehicle was certified to a appropriate model year.

I have been told that the certificate number of the vehicle is DSSRC0.24EDS-003.


That certificate number is not within the current list of 2013 Certified Highway Motorcycles

I have been told that my local government title bureau verifies the EPA certificate number and that they use the above online EPA current list to do so. Since the vehicle is not on the current list it presents a problem.


I am requesting it be added to the current online list and with all the public information that list offers as detailed information such as the OEM, engine type and size, rated power etc. The vehicle is being offered for sale online and the data is useful to verify that the vehicle is what they describe it as.

What is the logic of requesting a copy of the EPA certificate from the OEM? I could but without confirmation/verification from the EPA itself it would be only a piece of paper, just as the sticker is just a decal, the manufactures print them not the EPA. Its the verification of the certificate number and specifications that matter.


I wonder if there are other vehicle not listed? I use that list primarily to see what is offered and also who manufactures the vehicle. I also use it to verify the engine capacities they are very often misrepresented in marketing.

I do not think there is any wrong doing here, but the fact that the EPA or its agent as it could be a private contractor that the EPA uses to maintain that list is not keeping it current and accurate. It is the government they need to be much more diligent and responsible.


Basically the EPA role is to verify and they may actually be regulated or operating under a federal regulation that requires them to publish that list and in that insure it is current and also accurate.

Looks like Shandong Pioneer or SSR should get you a bike for dealers' cost for going through this to get the bike on the visible list.

They do not even know…..unless somebody at Pioneer or SSR read this thread.
They may have also contacted the EPA and asked why aren't our models on your list?
