The silver plate by the exhaust is where the secondary air intake hose was located. The hose that's connected to the intake plenum/manifold was connected to the EGR and in turn to the secondary air intake to the exhaust, that has been plugged up to prevent the engine running lean. The fuel mix screw is in view as well, if you look at the bowl you can see two brass mount bolts, in the middle of the two brass mount bolts you can see a brass screw right below the intake manifold, on the engine side.

I finished painting my bike, working out the kinks, and now I can enjoy riding it. I was hesitant to do the rear fender because of the electrical, but if you pop open your oil can and disconnect the wires feeding in from the rear fender it is beyond easy. They are separated and color coded. My headlight only worked for a parking light and bright, the main light never came on. I got out the soldering iron and got that working, but it wasn't very bright so I added some lights that quickly and consistently drained the battery. Took them off because I would rather not be stranded than ride in the dark. It's possible, just slowly. I'll look at upgrading the battery and the lights later. My speedometer keeps me confused. Yesterday it was reading 70, today under 40. That is the same stretch of land with traffic. Messing with my iPhone and using GPS to try to dial in what each number really means. 25 is 25, 34 is 40, and 55 is 63. Yup, a little weird.
She looks GREAT! Have you mentioned what paint you used? Did you clear coat? Really nice work there.

Your work has paid off, very attractive look.
Sorry to read about your lights. I found my headlamp wire from the switch on the handelbar was dead ended in my wiring harness leading under the tank & a connection point wired to a wrong wire. See old posts Nov/Dec '11. Barnone helped me find it.
Now have full control of my lights.
I gave up on my speedo, removed it. Now just enjoy the views.Attachment 7439
I ended up piggybacking off the wire to the parking light to get my headlight to work. I remember a post about a blue wire under the seat, but I figured since I was adding and removing extra lights I'd just make it easy on myself. I managed to drive from home to a convenience store, then drove to where I took a picture of my bike, then drove home. I checked my battery's voltage when I got home and it read over 12. I'm feeling confident that the battery can provide power without drawing too much on this configuration. As for paint, I used engine paint. It can withstand high temps and is gas and oil resistant. I wanted a flat black look, and I haven't been able to find clear coat that is flat. I use a lot of wax, wipe up and gas that splashes on a fill up, and use an rubber band covered in fabric ( a pony tail holder) for any gasoline that gets vented through the gas cap. Even if you don't paint your tank, I'd recommend the rubber band. I had streaks all over my tank before, and now there's none. The amazing part is that I still haven't received my paperwork to get it registered. Thank god I had a motorcycle plate conveniently lying around.
has anyone had to replace brake pads yet?
ive read the entire thread in the past 3 days. and no one has mentioned were to find replacements or compatible alternatives.
this is my first post and like others have said, i feel like i know some of the 'regulars' that post here. i was originally planning on buying a ninja 250r for the price and mpg qualities. but i think the DF has it beat based on those two things alone. my intended use would be solely for daily work commutes. which is about 12.4 miles/day. and of course the occasional relaxing cruise. through the hills of the fingerlakes region of New York.
i called my dmv with gardos vin and they already have 8 rtb's registered in NY (with different numbers than gardos). so thats not a problem. next phone call will be to the insurance agent to check with them. as NY requires motor vehicles to be insured before registration can be obtained. i love the friendliness of all the people here, and their willingness to help. i love the looks of this bike and wasn't going to purchase one until i started hearing that people were having somewhat good reviews of the companies they purchased from. i noted all the possible upgrades made (sprocket size, needle size, oil plug...) all valuable info.
I am with you on that.I have yet to find anything to replace my pads and I have a little over 3000 miles on the bike, and feel a need to replace the front at least. I am looking at doing a test this weekend and see if the back pads match the front,as they still have alot of pad on them..if so i am just gonna swap them until I find new ones.
If you can't find replacements that fit you could get compounds adhered to the original backing plates. I can do that in Auckland, New Zealand so there must be plenty of places in the states that can do the same.
Just when you think you have all the kinks worked out I noticed my gas tank is leaking again from those crappy welds on the mounting studs. This is my second tank! I even JBWelded the studs before I installed it on the bike but it still is leaking, real slow, but I'm not comfortable with fuel dripping no matter how small. Anybody have any success getting a quality repair on their tank? I'm worried with the JBWeld all over that you couldn't get a real weld job done.
Gun Rod, was your new tank a bear to install? I seem to remember you having to do some mods on the new tank. I wouldn't mind getting a larger capacity tank anyway. Any ideas or recommendations on replacement tanks?
I lined my tank, but when I put it on it leaked. I ended up taking it to a local welder and got the spot fixed. No problems from there, but I ended up repainting the tank. I definitely didn't tighten it very much, and used lock tite with no problems. I'm keeping my eye on it pretty closely, because a gasoline bath isn't very fun.

Changing the tank was the most difficult mod i've made, but the most rewarding. Long range, no vapor lock, leaks or stains.
Wide variety out there and no perfect choice. Watch the tunnel width. Even with 3"I still needed to grind off original tank brackets and shape reulator. I used the Paughco 818A.
They make a Plastic liner (http://powersport-superstore-inc.ama...source=froogle) i used this one on my old motorcycle with existing rust in it. worked awesome!!!
Also i switched the main jet from the maufacturer (105) to a 112* and its a huge difference in performance! with a little tweak to the air fuel mix screw ( towards engine on carberator) it runs well with not being too lean or way too rich, small back fires and rough riding, but tweaks and plugging additional EPA regulation vacuum ports i am sure it will be doing very well!
So i recieved my bobber less than a week ago and found this forum since then and love it. this is my first bike and i think it will be a good starter. first thing i did was order a set of drag bars for it(20 bucks on ebay, cant beat that). i actually got my mso in the mail a day before the bike got dropped off. the VIN was not in the dmv system here so possibly the first one registered in Illinois but just took a little longer than the usual at a dmv anyway and i got my plate. insurance was a bit tricky but i got that too and have only put 53 miles on it so far. but in those 50 miles both of my mirrors have fallen out and shattered (so im gonna order some bar end mirrors), my speedo has decided to stop working, and ive found that my front tire is looseing about 15psi a day. also the gas cap leaves a streak down the left side of my tank. all small problems and with the help of all you guys out there i hope to get her rollin good very quickly. from what ive read so far im going to pull thig egr shit off imediatly and see what that does. my first question i guess is where do i go about finding jets? thanks again for this site. i bought this blindly and cant wait to see what i can get her to do...
hey gun, i just noticed the other day while i was riding and it was starting to get dark that i couldn't see my headlight but when i pulled in the driveway and hit the brake then it brightened up. was this similar to the problem you had with the headlight. if i take off the tank and connect the correct wires together, will that fix the dimming problem?
Had the same problem, easily fixed, here is post #952:
Headlight dimming issue resolved!!! After checking everything out with a friend who has a good knowledge of electrics it is confirmed as reported by Reporon that there is a blue wire with white stripe underneath the left side of the gas tank that connects to a dark green wire. It is the only single wire to single wire connection underneath the tank. For some reason as you rev the engine the voltage actually drops from the dark green wire. SOLUTION: Disconnect the wires, cap the green wire and connect the blue wire with white stripe to one of the black wires which are usually a constant 12V (backwards from the black ground we are used to). Now the headlight comes on with the ignition switch and the headlight gets brighter with the engine RPM's and maintains a constant brightness. Also happy to report that there has been no battery problems wiring the headlight that way.
Before I even fired up my df250rtb I changed out the oil. Changed out the drain plug to the rare earth magnetic one. Went to the 38 tooth rear sprocket. Took off the EFI stuff. Changed out the bars to drag bars. And yes, the mirrors have go to go. The stock ones fell off. Went through the slow break in. I had to adjust the drive chain three times now. Might just replace it. Also the same with the clutch cable. But 600 miles runs like a champ. As for the jets, Don't think I will mess with them as yet. Might later on down the road.

My front tire leaked air also, Made one call and they sent me a new rim, tire, the whole works. Took about a month tho.
haha not related but http://news.yahoo.com/motorcyclist-c...113500876.html yikes
Guess I should of known it would happen after reading the posts on here. I opened up my garage door and smelled yes you guessed it. Gas tank leaking. I'm not even going to try to repair the leak. Going to start looking for an alternative tank.
what size drain plug should i buy? 12mm for honda ruckus?
Go here.

So i called scooter depot and they are sending me a new wheel or tube or something and a new speedo. i did some painting, installed a 115 main jet (my stock one was a 105), shimmed the needle with one washer and relocated the airfilter out into the air strea, installed a new ngk plug now its running tip top. The more i ride the more i like it. Definatly the next step is a new rear sprocket but before i order one i need to know if anyone can tell me which one to get. i also need to get me a little bit of storage to add on to it. here is a pic... these mirrors are just some a friend had laying aroud and are just temporary till my bar end mirrors get off the slow boat.Attachment 7590
