Sperm collecting machine: Chinese innovation at its best.....
I have no doubt that Chinese inventors will soon rule the world. Don't believe me? Some wonderful company in Jiangsu has apparently invented a sperm collecting machine. Great! With this machine, now sperm banks around the world no longer need to get donors to "do it yourself". The machine boasts of a cylinder pump which they say feels like a vajayjay inside. Like it tighter? Looser? Faster? Slower? All of that, and the height of the pump itself is adjustable. There's also a screen that can play you your favourite p@rn in a wide variety of file formats while the machine pumps the baby batter out of you. This machine is supposedly great for sufferers of premature ejaculation because it helps to desensitise the penis. Any PE patients out there? Get one from their Alibaba store http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/21...Collector.html and tell us if it works......

About a month ago Chinabiker posted this link and I've been following the AQI data in Dongguan a couple times per day ever since. Have a look at how they classify air quality.
http://www.contactdi.com/2013/aqi.jpg
So let's be optimistic and say that the data is not being tampered with and the monitoring stations are indicative of the surroundings where they are placed. I find it pretty scary that the best cities in China have far worse numbers than other Asian cities like Bangkok, Tokyo, or Kuala Lampur. It's pretty rare to see Chinese cities that aren't in the orange, red or purple range, yet most other cities in Asia rarely venture into the yellow.
There's a link on the AQI Info website for pollution masks from totobobo, and seeing as Dongguan was regularly in the orange range of pollution, I decided to give them a try. I wore the mask for the first and last 15 minutes of my bicycle ride to work/home, as that is where I pass through a little traffic. Not a lot of traffic, but usually a few cars and the occasional bus or blue cancer spreader truck go by as I begin or end my ride. This is what the air filter looked like after 3 rides. New filter on left, used filter on right.
http://www.contactdi.com/2013/IMG_1673s.jpg
That's after roughly 1.5 hours of use with pollution levels in the orange range (101-150). Pretty nasty....
I also wore the mask during 2 hours of motorcycling through heavy traffic, the results were worse. I tried it in my car when I drove from Dongguan to Guangzhou and back, again, the filters were pretty gross.
I'm just putting this out there as something to think about. If you ride a bicycle or motorcycle in China, you're not doing yourself any favours without protection. If a filter can pull that much crap out of the air after less than two hours in moderate pollution, think of how bad it is for extended periods in high pollution areas.
Cheers!
ChinaV
Thank you for testing that out for the rest of us.
I'm staying in Longgang, Shenzhen, next to Dongguan, experience same air quality. Unfortunately, particulate dust is so much more nasty than polluted water. I use purify system from water at my apartment, and now the freaking pulluted dusty air!!!
We all know it, right .... but frankly it scares the hell out of me to see that pic ...
And that is only the air ... how about food, fruit, meat, water, fish, ...
I wear a motorcycle/bike mask under my helmet that uses a replaceable activated charcoal mask ( www.respro.co.uk ) although I also have a few paper elements that are washable, and have used these for a few years aside from the charcoal ones (all from respro). It is the reason I've just got to have a screen of some description on my motorcycles in PRC, otherwise if I don't then with the amount of riding I do each week, I'd be covered in crud. It's bad enough as it is. I make sure that I wear my mask even the 2-3km from my home to my work-place. And this is in a small town 30km away from a 3rd tier city. Here I am surrounded by mountains on the southern border and the sea and many islands therein on the northern border. Pity those in the big cities (SHZ, SH, BJ et al.) since I lived in SH many moons ago and could count the number of clear sky days/nights using the fingers on my hands each year. Even with all that said, I only need to leave my garage door or a window open here to find a layer of dirt covering every exposed horizontal upward facing surface (an ongoing debate with my wife! - best I don't go there!!!).
Unfortunately with the way things are progressing in PRC, the environment is but one part of the assaults (food supply chain, textiles, clothing, building materials and quality etc.) that any and all of us face just being here, foreigners and locals alike. Problem with this is that most of it is not something that rears it's consequences over the short term. The penalty is likely going to be paid further down the track. All of us should be more than just a little concerned about the supply chains here in Ch!na and anything exported from here. Hell Ch!na is not alone in the QA/QC, knowledge and enforcement of supply chains (horse meat anyone?!). Even when something makes the media/headlines it is akin to the horse has bolted. What about all the shady deals and wrongs that never make it to the media, or the misinformation that does the rounds on the Ch!nese mic0-bl0gs?
When I was doing my medical studies aeons ago, I can recall vividly looking at several cadavers and the pairs of lungs taken from each, one from a person who'd lived in the country (farming), one from a cigarette smoker (1 pack/day 30-40 years), and the other a city dweller. All were approximately of similar ages. The smokers lungs were heavily diseased, the lungs from the city dweller were ok but still not like the pair of lungs of the country dweller which were in pretty good order, free from disease etc. Now this was in a developed country with pretty strict environmental rules (one of my sisters is an environmental scientist and employed by local government) so I have more than a passing interest.
Nope it is fair to say that all of us are slowly but surely paying the penalty for living here, albeit in more ways than we might otherwise imagine. The consequences though are likely to be felt for many far and distant from now.
This pollution is disgusting. I thought it was bad 10 years ago, but it got better then worse again. I can't believe that so many Chinese people tolerate it without demonstrations. I've noticed in my area the pollution is produced at sea level and in the mountains you can see that the pollution level is massively reduced by gaining altitude, meaning motorcycle trips to the mountains!
Also the local governments are thinking about 'getting tough on air-pollution', by banning street vendors that cook outside. Of course the government heavy industry and black car drivers will be unaffected.

What's the 'duo shao qian?' freaking obsession all about?
I always go to this shop to buy coffee beans. I always ride there bicycle. The people who work in the shop always try to sit on it/pick it up to see how heavy it is and always ask without fail 'ni de zixingche, duo shao qian?' Every time I politely say about 15,000 RMB. Everytime I come back the same guys ask:
duo shao qian?
duo shao qian?
duo shao qian?
duo shao qian?
Why? I freaking told you a 100 freaking times! Why do you keep asking the same goddam question? Do you have a weird quasi-religious obsession with money? Why not ask: where do you ride? How much does it weigh? Where was it made? What materials is it made from? etc etc
ZMC888 ^I feel for you buddy, I'm hearing you loud and clear. All I can think to say is that there is no equivalent to the English word "logic" in Mandarin. That IS the answer!
the ultimate bike accessory for the HOG crowd has finally arrived in PRC......

Even wondered why the government is against motorbikes, and foreigners, and foreigners on motorbikes? Have a look:

Well, you think it is a long time ago, and not to bad he? Just pulling some half-ass wheelies on an almost remote street on a Sunday afternoon, quite a while ago?
But the exact same guys do the hardcore in the night:

And then, heeeee, I remember this red/black Suzuki in the vid's; it was from a guy who wanted to race to Paris on it.
Finally claimed he had to give up cause he was hit by an e-bike .... my ass ....
The time he crashed is about the same as the last video.

'Hitler was good'
According to some of my students 'Hitler was Good'. While the homosexual part Jewish mass murderer of millions of Jews, Gypsies, Slavs, Russians and homosexuals was busy killing, apparently his corrupted heart 'bled' for the plight of the also racially superior Chinese people suffering under the oppressive occupation of the evil Japanese, and would have done anything he could to help but 'his hands were tied'.

^And that surprises you? C'mon, they don't have a word for logic, nor one equivalent, and certainly in my years of experience here, have failed miserably to even demonstrate that they have any viable alternative. One only has to observe any place round these parts (take almost any part of China) with a fairly high concentration of locals to see the herd mentality at work. Whether it be, pedestrians, road users (not too mention the mismatch in types of those), inside buildings, massing at elevators or escalators, queuing at one counter or another (lack thereof), or the subway, and in the lesser populated regions, then any herding animal will provide a worthy demonstration. The whole thinking is backwards, and you are welcome to take that either figuratively or literally, since both circumstances equally apply. Oh, and the 9-11 atrocity? there are still plenty of the local populace here (TIC) who smile and muse about all that, the consequences and how the Americans deserved it, never mind the tens of tens of nationalities killed in that very real and clear demonstration of so called humanity.

Logic is subordinate to philosophy, generalizing people is a fallacy. If your seeking a Chinese word for logic then ask them to describe their philosophy on life and all the aspects of life, logic is there is many words.
Historically the Chinese people were and in degrees still are exposed to high levels of government sponsored propaganda much of which were and are based in fallacies. Today we all get exposed through mass media, advertisements and politics with what are fallacies, some believe it all and others see through it, fortunately we have and are educated to filter, higher education here encourages critical analysis.
What about "逻辑"the Chinese loanword for logic? I'm fairly fluent in Chinese and I don't see how it differs in usage from the English word. Are you sure you're not just having a "Eskimos have a hundred words for snow" moment here?
I've heard this too, from my gf of all people and I wasn't pleased either. But with further thought I think it relates to Mainland China's inherent need for international friends or "国际友人" to increase its own feeling of self-worth. The idea of any Westerner caring for China seems to make Chinese people feel all warm and fuzzy inside no matter who they are.
